Bro . Lord Henry Thynne , accompanied by his youngest son , has started on a tour in Australia and purposes remaining abroad for several months . The Duke and Duchess of Connaught arrived at Charing Cross from Paris on Tuesday evening , and the following morning they left Buckingham Palace for Aberge ldie . The installation meeting of the Chiswick Mark Lodge ,

No . 357 , takes place on Thursday , the 17 th inst ., at the Star and Garter Hotel , Kew Bridge , Bro . George Thomas , S . W ., being W . M . elect . The Mayor of Windsor has invited Bro . Lord Mayor Sir Joseph Savory , Bart ., and the Sheriffs of London and several provincial Mayors to the annual " Venison feast , "

which will take place at the Guildhall , Windsor , on the 30 th inst . The annual regatta , at Ramsgate was held on Tuesday , and as the weather was exceptionally fine , the sightseers were in great force . Eleven events were entered on the programme , and many of them were keenly contested . The Margate regatta was fixed for Thursday .

The Congress of Orientalists in London having at their first meeting sent a loyal telegram to the Queen , her Majesty has since replied expressing her appreciation of the sentiments conveyed . This reply , which was received from the Colonial Office , was read at the meeting on Tuesday .

The Duke and Duchess of Teck and Princess Victoria and Prince Francis of Teck visited Hereford on Tuesday , the opening day of the Festival of the Three Choirs , and drove from the station to the Deanery , where they were entertained at luncheon by the Very Rev . the Dean of Hereford .

The Coach and Coach-Harness Makers' Company have elected Bro . Edmund Boulnois , M . P ., as their Master , and Bro . Sir John B . Monckton and Alderman and Colonel Wilkin as their Wardens for the ensuing year . This company has taken a very active part in the revival of technical education .

The annual picnic in connection with the St . Cybi Lodge , Holyhead , took place on the 7 th inst . at Llandudno , invitations being extended to other members in the district . The dinner was served at the Tudno Castle Hotel , and the arrangements were admirably carried out by Bro . James Lloyd , the Secretary of the lodge .

Among the party staying at Lord and Lady St . Oswald ' s seat , Wostell Priory , Wakefield , during the present ( Doncaster ) week , have been the Marquis and Marchioness of Londonderry , the Earl of Durham and Lady Anne Lambton , Lord Alington and the Hon . Miss Sturt , and Bro . the Marquis of Hartington , M . P .

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon having received and considered the representations made by the Scottish Rights of Way Society , has agreed to an arrangement by which there is now thrown open to the public a route including a circuit of about 25 miles through some of the finest scenery in Scotland , and affording magnificent views of the Cairngorm mountains .

A service was held at Rosslyn Chapel on Saturday last , the 5 th inst ., in memory of the late Bro . the Earl of Rosslyn , P . G . M . of Scotland . The day was the anniversary of his lordship ' s death , and occasion was taken to unveil a memorial tablet . The service was attended by the Dowager Countessof Rosslyn and herdaughters , the Earl of Rosslyn , and many relatives and friends .

The championship of the South London Rifle Club has been won by Private W . H . Trask , of the Honourable Artillery Company , with the line score of 99 out of a possible 105 points ; Sergeant Smith , Queen ' s Silver Medallist , of the 3 rd V . B . West Surrey , being second , and securing the silver medal , with S 6 points . Private Trask , who thus secured the gold medal , made 15 bull ' s eyes and

. The County Council of Westmorland have decided on a scheme of education in which instruction connected with farming will occupy a prominent position . Local Committees have been formed to carry out the details , and Mr . Buckmaster , of the Science and Art Department , has held a series of meetings to promote the scheme , in which the Earl of Lonsdale , Bro . the Earl of Bective , and other local proprietors have greatly interested themselves .

Burnham Thorpe , in Norfolk , in which Lord Nelson was born , and of which the great Admiral ' s father , the Rev . •¦ Edmund Nelson , was for many years the rector , has no memorial of the hero , and the Prince of Wales has suggested that it would be a fitting tribute to his memory to restore

the old parish church and erect a public hall . The scheme has the patronage of the Queen , the Duke of Edinburgh , and other members of the Royal Family , and on Monday the foundation-stone of the hall was laid by the Countess of Leicester , who drove over from Holkham for the purpose . The carrying out of the proposed scheme is expected to cost about , fio , ooo .

An interesting event took place at the meeting of the Dee Lodge , No . 157 C , on Wednesday , the 19 th ult . Since his accession to office a month ago the respected W . M ., Bro . Lieut . J . W . Shaw , has entered within the bonds of wedlock , and the brethren determined to celebrate the auspicious event in a tangible and pleasing form . Among those present at the meeting were Bros , the

Hon . H . Holbrook , P . D . G . M . British Columbia ; S . VV . Ramsden , P . S . G . D . Cheshire ; J . Morris , P . M . ; W . Jones , P . M . ; G . B . Richmond , P . M . ; R . Hawkins , P . M . ; j . Clark , P . M . ; Litherland , S . W . ; and others . At the close of thelodge business Bro . Ramsden spoke in eulogistic terms of the W . M . ' s services to the lodge for many years

past , and presented him , in the name of the brethren , with a handsome collarette , and gold and pearl brooch for Mrs . Shaw . The W . M . acknowledged the gifts in feeling terms , and spoke encouragingly of the future of the lodge . The brethren then dined together , and , on the removal of the cloth , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given from the chair and duly honoured .

The Portsmouth Town Council have decided on adopting the electric light , and have agreed to borrow £ 60 , 000 to cover the cost of the site and machinery . The Queen of Denmark , mother of the Princess of Wales , the Empress of Russia , and the King of the Hellenes , completed her 74 th year on Monday , the 7 th inst .

Three attempts have been made to raise the gunboat Tweed which was recently sunk off Hong-Kong , but as she was badly patched she subsequently sank again in deep water . The Executive Committee of the Royal Naval Exhibition have resolved to invite tenders for the purchase and removal of the full-sized model of the Victory now on view there when the Exhibition closes .

The annual meeting of the friends and supporters of the Royal Caledonian Asylum was held on the 3 rd instant , when a very satisfactory report of the health and educational progress of the 270 children in the Asylum was presented . Bro . the Earl of Londesborough's party at Londesborough Park during this Doncaster week has consisted of Sir Gerald and Lady Sybil Codrington , the Ladies Lilian and Mildred Dimsin , the Hon . Leopold Agar-Ellis , and Major Candy .

It is anticipated that the D . P . G . M ., Bro . R . C . Else , P . G . D . of England , will perform the ceremony of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . E . Davy , at the regular meeting of the Eldon Lodge , No . 1 755 , held at Portishead , Somerset , to-morrow ( Saturday ) .

Princess Christian is on a visit to her sister , the Empress Frederick of Germany , at Homburg , while Prince Christian has gone into Silesia on a shooting expedition . The latter has sent a handsome donation to the Windsor Infirmary in commemoration of his silver wedding .

A representative exhibition of pictures by members of the Pne-Raphaelite School will , it is understood , be opened in the Corporation Gallery , at Birmingham , on Tuesday next , the 15 th instant , and will include important examples of Millais , Burne Jones , Holman Hunt , Dante Gabriel Rossetti , & c , & c

A military tournament , in which detachments of the 6 th Dragoon Guards , the Aberdeen Volunteer Engineers , and the Aberdeen Medical Staff took part , has just been held with great success at Moneymusk , Aberdeenshire . Over 8000 people were present , including many fashionable people and visitors to Braemar .

A monster entertainment for the people , described as a National Temperance Choral Fete , was held at the Crystal Palace on Tuesday , lasting from 10 a . m . to 9 p . m . There was a large attendance and choral competitions were going on all day long . As the weather was magnificent , everybody enjoyed himself thoroughly .

The Duke of Cambridge inspected the troops in garrison at Colchester—the 4 th Hussars , the 2 nd Battalion Norfolk regiment , the ist Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers , three batteries of Artillery , and detachments of other corps—on Friday , the 4 th inst ., and expressed himself well pleased with their appearance and the manner in which they executed their movements .

Sir Thomas Fowler , Bart ., son of the late Bro . Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., and two or three of his servants , last week surprised a party of poachers on his estate near Chippenham , and , notwithstanding he was struck in the face and severely bruised by a stone , succeeded in capturing one of the poachers , who has since been sentenced by the Chippenham magistrates to three months' hard labour .

As a result of the feud in the Masonic Fraternity of Ohio , growing out of the differences between what is known as the Northern Jurisdiction and Cerneau Scottish Rites , there is a split in the Master Masons and Grand Lodge of this State . The Grand Lotlge placed all Blue Lodge Masons identified with the Cerneaus under a ban , and this culminated in the creation of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio , which to-day received its charter from the Secretary of State . —Spy , Massachusetts .

__ Ihe Hon . Robert Baillie-Hamilton , brother of Bro . the Earl of Haddington , died after a protracted illness , at his residence , Langton House , Dunse , Berwickshire , on Saturday last , at the age of 63 . The deceased had seen considerable military service , having served with the Rifle

Brigade in the Kaffir war , with the 44 th Foot in the Crimea , for which he had received the medal and three clasps and the Turkish and Sardinian medals , on the staff of Sir Colin Campbell during the Indian Mutiny , and in the China war of 1 S 60 .

The muster in the ladies' and other stands at Doncaster on Tuesday was far below the average of recent years , owing to there being no parties from the Duke of Portland ' s and Viscount Galway ' s , but those present at the opening day nevertheless included the Duke of Cambridge , the Marquis and Marchioness of Londonderry , Bro . the

Marquis and Marchioness of Drogheda , Bros , the Earl of Enniskil en , the Earl of Feversham , and the Earl of Bradford , the Earl of Durham and the Lady Anne . Lambton , Bro . the Earl of Wharncliffe , Lord Alington and the Hon . Mabel Sturt , Bro . Lord and Lady Churchill , Bro . Lord Alcester , Sir Gerald and Lady Sybil Codrington , and Brj . Sir John and Lady Astley .

The annual gathering of the clans took place in a field to the south of the River Dee , about half a mile from Invercauld House , and three miles from Braemar . There was a large and fashionable attendance present to witness the games which were carried on for about two hours , among them being Bro . the Duke of Fife , Bro . Sir Algernon and

Lady Borthwick and party , and the Chancellor of the Exchequer . The Queen , accompanied by the Princess Louise ( Marchioness of Lome ) , the Princess of Leiningen , and the children of the Duke of Connaught , and attended by the ladies and gentlemen of her suite , drove over from Balmoral and spent a full hour and a halt on the ground .

The great vine at Hampton Court has borne well this year , the yield being 1500 bunches of grapes , which are well up to the average in quality . We are glad to hear that news was received towards the close of last week to the effect that Bro . Sir F . Milner , Bart ., M . P ., is completely restored to health , and maybe expected to return home very shortly .

Bro . Sir H . Trueman Wood and Mr . James Dred ge started on Saturday last for Chicago as representatives of the British Royal Commission for the Exhibition which will be held in that city in 1 S 93 . On the occasion of Brock ' s benefit at the Crystal Palace , on the 3 rd inst ., when there was a grand display of fireworks both by daylight and in the evening , the number of visitors was between 48 , 000 and 49 , 000 .

Early in the week the Duchess of Albany arrived in the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert , at St . Mary ' s , Scilly , where it is understood that her Royal Highness and party were to make a stay of some little time . The Earl of Carnarvon , who has been on a visit to his mother , the Countess of Carnarvon , at Pixton , entertained all his tenantry at dinner last week , this being the first time he has met them since succeeding to the title .

The Earl of Cadogan , the Duke of Norfolk , and Bros . Stuart-Wortley , M . P ., Sir John Brown , Sir Edward Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., and Sir Augustus Harris were among the principal guests at the 268 th Cutlers' Feast at Sheffield on Thursday , the 3 rd inst .

The usual exhibition of fruit and dahlias at the Crystal Palace was opened on Friday , the 4 th inst ., and notwithstanding the weather has been so unfavourable , there was a very fair display of apples , pears , plums , grapes , tomatoes , & c . The dahlias , too , made a goodly show .

Under the presidency of Bro . E . Pierpoint , P . P . J . G . W . a meeting of the Committee of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held on the evening of the 4 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , when several children were elected on the foundation ofthe Charity .

The Board of Trade has received trustworthy information that very great destitution exists among those who have emigrated to Brazil from Great Britain , and has issued warnings to intending emigrants from this country to the effect that Brazil does not offer a suitable field for British emigration .

Among those present at the funeral at Budworth on Saturday last of the late Sir P . Grey-Egerton , Bart ., were Bros , the Earls of Londesborough and Enniskillen , while wreaths were sent by , among others , Bro . Lord and Lady Egerton of Tatton , Bro . the Earl of Shrewsbury , and Viscountess Raincliffe .

The arrangements for the laying of the foundation-stone of the new sick hospital at Dundee are now completed , and the programmes of the ceremony are issued . The Provincial Grand Lodge of Forfarshire will be opened at two o ' clock on the 12 th inst ., when the Grand Master will be received in Masonic form .

The Right Hon . the Earl of Haddington , Deputy Grand Master of Scotland , and Sir Charles Dalrymple , Bart ., of Newhailes , M . P ., Substitute Grand Master of Scotland , will accompany Bro . Sir Archibald Campbell , the Grand Master , on his visit to Dundee on the 12 th inst . for the purpose of laying the foundation-stone of the new Hospital for Sick Poor .

We are sorry to learn that Bro . F . Dixon-Bramald , one of the much-respected Stewards of the Eldon Lodge , No . 1755 . Portishead , is obliged to leave England on account of his health . He sails in a very short time with his wife and family for Wellington , New Zealand , and we commend him with all heartiness to our Colonial brethren on the other side of the world .

At the regular meeting of the Alan Lodge , No . 236 S , held on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst ., at the Oueen's Hotel , Alderley , the Right Hon . Alan Egerton , M 7 P ., P . P . G . W . and VV . M . of the Iodge , presided , and there was a large attendance of influential brethren . Bro . Harry Gordon Smale was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year , and Bro . A . Lawley , P . M ., P . A . G . Sec , Treasurer .

Herr Schdnrock has given the following results of his observations on 197 thunderstorms in Russia : In the hot season the velocity of the storm was less than in the cold , being 28 as against 32 miles per hour . It was least at morning , and increased gradually to a maximum between nine and ten p . m . 'I hose which came from the south-west , west , and north-west had the greatest velocity .

Whilst the 2 nd Battalion of the Welsh Regiment at Devonport were on inspection this week , a feeling akin to horror almost was felt on its being found that the silver badge attached to the Queen ' s goat had been stolen—or , at any rate , removed . 1 he emblem , a gift of her Majesty , was afterwards found to have been surreptitiously placed in the bed of one of the buglers .

The D Oyley Carte Opera Company , which has been recently performing in Aberdeen , gave a performance of the " Mikado " at Balmoral Castle on Friday , the 4 th inst ., there being present the Queen , the Princesses Louise and Beatrice , the Princess of Leiningen and the Princesses Victoria and Margaret and Prince Arthur of Connaught , the ladies and gentlemen of the Court , Bro . Sir Algernon and Lady Borthwick , and a number of other visitors .

Barnet Fair , which is held annually in the early days of September , came to an end on Monday amid scenes of rowdyism which necessitated that respectable people , and especially ladies , should remain indoors . A special force of detectives had been sent down to look after the thieves and vagabonds , and they discharged their duties with a very considerable amount of success . It is time , however , that this , like Greenwich and other metropolitan fairs , should be put an end to now and for ever .

The Queen of Denmark , mother of the Princess of Wales , the Empress of Russia , and the King of the Hellenes , completed her 74 th year on Monday , the 7 th inst .

Three attempts have been made to raise the gunboat Tweed which was recently sunk off Hong-Kong , but as she was badly patched she subsequently sank again in deep water . The Executive Committee of the Royal Naval Exhibition have resolved to invite tenders for the purchase and removal of the full-sized model of the Victory now on view there when the Exhibition closes .

The annual meeting of the friends and supporters of the Royal Caledonian Asylum was held on the 3 rd instant , when a very satisfactory report of the health and educational progress of the 270 children in the Asylum was presented . Bro . the Earl of Londesborough's party at Londesborough Park during this Doncaster week has consisted of Sir Gerald and Lady Sybil Codrington , the Ladies Lilian and Mildred Dimsin , the Hon . Leopold Agar-Ellis , and Major Candy .

It is anticipated that the D . P . G . M ., Bro . R . C . Else , P . G . D . of England , will perform the ceremony of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . E . Davy , at the regular meeting of the Eldon Lodge , No . 1 755 , held at Portishead , Somerset , to-morrow ( Saturday ) .

Princess Christian is on a visit to her sister , the Empress Frederick of Germany , at Homburg , while Prince Christian has gone into Silesia on a shooting expedition . The latter has sent a handsome donation to the Windsor Infirmary in commemoration of his silver wedding .

A representative exhibition of pictures by members of the Pne-Raphaelite School will , it is understood , be opened in the Corporation Gallery , at Birmingham , on Tuesday next , the 15 th instant , and will include important examples of Millais , Burne Jones , Holman Hunt , Dante Gabriel Rossetti , & c , & c

A military tournament , in which detachments of the 6 th Dragoon Guards , the Aberdeen Volunteer Engineers , and the Aberdeen Medical Staff took part , has just been held with great success at Moneymusk , Aberdeenshire . Over 8000 people were present , including many fashionable people and visitors to Braemar .

A monster entertainment for the people , described as a National Temperance Choral Fete , was held at the Crystal Palace on Tuesday , lasting from 10 a . m . to 9 p . m . There was a large attendance and choral competitions were going on all day long . As the weather was magnificent , everybody enjoyed himself thoroughly .

The Duke of Cambridge inspected the troops in garrison at Colchester—the 4 th Hussars , the 2 nd Battalion Norfolk regiment , the ist Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers , three batteries of Artillery , and detachments of other corps—on Friday , the 4 th inst ., and expressed himself well pleased with their appearance and the manner in which they executed their movements .

Sir Thomas Fowler , Bart ., son of the late Bro . Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., and two or three of his servants , last week surprised a party of poachers on his estate near Chippenham , and , notwithstanding he was struck in the face and severely bruised by a stone , succeeded in capturing one of the poachers , who has since been sentenced by the Chippenham magistrates to three months' hard labour .

As a result of the feud in the Masonic Fraternity of Ohio , growing out of the differences between what is known as the Northern Jurisdiction and Cerneau Scottish Rites , there is a split in the Master Masons and Grand Lodge of this State . The Grand Lotlge placed all Blue Lodge Masons identified with the Cerneaus under a ban , and this culminated in the creation of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio , which to-day received its charter from the Secretary of State . —Spy , Massachusetts .

The great vine at Hampton Court has borne well this year , the yield being 1500 bunches of grapes , which are well up to the average in quality . We are glad to hear that news was received towards the close of last week to the effect that Bro . Sir F . Milner , Bart ., M . P ., is completely restored to health , and maybe expected to return home very shortly .

Bro . Sir H . Trueman Wood and Mr . James Dred ge started on Saturday last for Chicago as representatives of the British Royal Commission for the Exhibition which will be held in that city in 1 S 93 . On the occasion of Brock ' s benefit at the Crystal Palace , on the 3 rd inst ., when there was a grand display of fireworks both by daylight and in the evening , the number of visitors was between 48 , 000 and 49 , 000 .

Early in the week the Duchess of Albany arrived in the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert , at St . Mary ' s , Scilly , where it is understood that her Royal Highness and party were to make a stay of some little time . The Earl of Carnarvon , who has been on a visit to his mother , the Countess of Carnarvon , at Pixton , entertained all his tenantry at dinner last week , this being the first time he has met them since succeeding to the title .

The Earl of Cadogan , the Duke of Norfolk , and Bros . Stuart-Wortley , M . P ., Sir John Brown , Sir Edward Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., and Sir Augustus Harris were among the principal guests at the 268 th Cutlers' Feast at Sheffield on Thursday , the 3 rd inst .

The usual exhibition of fruit and dahlias at the Crystal Palace was opened on Friday , the 4 th inst ., and notwithstanding the weather has been so unfavourable , there was a very fair display of apples , pears , plums , grapes , tomatoes , & c . The dahlias , too , made a goodly show .

Under the presidency of Bro . E . Pierpoint , P . P . J . G . W . a meeting of the Committee of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held on the evening of the 4 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , when several children were elected on the foundation ofthe Charity .

The Board of Trade has received trustworthy information that very great destitution exists among those who have emigrated to Brazil from Great Britain , and has issued warnings to intending emigrants from this country to the effect that Brazil does not offer a suitable field for British emigration .

Among those present at the funeral at Budworth on Saturday last of the late Sir P . Grey-Egerton , Bart ., were Bros , the Earls of Londesborough and Enniskillen , while wreaths were sent by , among others , Bro . Lord and Lady Egerton of Tatton , Bro . the Earl of Shrewsbury , and Viscountess Raincliffe .

The arrangements for the laying of the foundation-stone of the new sick hospital at Dundee are now completed , and the programmes of the ceremony are issued . The Provincial Grand Lodge of Forfarshire will be opened at two o ' clock on the 12 th inst ., when the Grand Master will be received in Masonic form .

The Right Hon . the Earl of Haddington , Deputy Grand Master of Scotland , and Sir Charles Dalrymple , Bart ., of Newhailes , M . P ., Substitute Grand Master of Scotland , will accompany Bro . Sir Archibald Campbell , the Grand Master , on his visit to Dundee on the 12 th inst . for the purpose of laying the foundation-stone of the new Hospital for Sick Poor .

We are sorry to learn that Bro . F . Dixon-Bramald , one of the much-respected Stewards of the Eldon Lodge , No . 1755 . Portishead , is obliged to leave England on account of his health . He sails in a very short time with his wife and family for Wellington , New Zealand , and we commend him with all heartiness to our Colonial brethren on the other side of the world .

At the regular meeting of the Alan Lodge , No . 236 S , held on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst ., at the Oueen's Hotel , Alderley , the Right Hon . Alan Egerton , M 7 P ., P . P . G . W . and VV . M . of the Iodge , presided , and there was a large attendance of influential brethren . Bro . Harry Gordon Smale was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year , and Bro . A . Lawley , P . M ., P . A . G . Sec , Treasurer .

Herr Schdnrock has given the following results of his observations on 197 thunderstorms in Russia : In the hot season the velocity of the storm was less than in the cold , being 28 as against 32 miles per hour . It was least at morning , and increased gradually to a maximum between nine and ten p . m . 'I hose which came from the south-west , west , and north-west had the greatest velocity .

Whilst the 2 nd Battalion of the Welsh Regiment at Devonport were on inspection this week , a feeling akin to horror almost was felt on its being found that the silver badge attached to the Queen ' s goat had been stolen—or , at any rate , removed . 1 he emblem , a gift of her Majesty , was afterwards found to have been surreptitiously placed in the bed of one of the buglers .

The D Oyley Carte Opera Company , which has been recently performing in Aberdeen , gave a performance of the " Mikado " at Balmoral Castle on Friday , the 4 th inst ., there being present the Queen , the Princesses Louise and Beatrice , the Princess of Leiningen and the Princesses Victoria and Margaret and Prince Arthur of Connaught , the ladies and gentlemen of the Court , Bro . Sir Algernon and Lady Borthwick , and a number of other visitors .

Barnet Fair , which is held annually in the early days of September , came to an end on Monday amid scenes of rowdyism which necessitated that respectable people , and especially ladies , should remain indoors . A special force of detectives had been sent down to look after the thieves and vagabonds , and they discharged their duties with a very considerable amount of success . It is time , however , that this , like Greenwich and other metropolitan fairs , should be put an end to now and for ever .
