THE APPROACHING SCHOOL ELECTIONS .

The voting papers for the October School elections have been issued and we are in a position to call attention to such matters in connection with the circumstances of the different candidates as arc likely to prove of interest to our readers . The election into the

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS will take place at the Quarterly General Court which will be held in the great hall of Freemasons' Tavern , on Thursday , the Sth October . There are in all 28 candidates , of whom live

remain over from April and the other 23 have had their names placed on the list since then , while the number of vacancies to be lilled is 19 . London furnishes five candidates and has a part interest in the success of five others ; the remaining 18 hailing from the Provinces and Stations Abroad . The London five are No . 2 .

who polled 8 72 votes at her first attempt in' April , and Nos . 13 , ' 6 , 26 , and 27 , while the five in which London and some one or oilier of the Provinces have a joint interest are as follow : No . 5 , who hails from Middlesex and London and has already to

her credit 1020 votes ; Nos . 6 and 15 from London and Surrey , of whom the latter has this one and only chance of obtaining admission ; No . 7 , from London and Berkshire ; and No . 25 , ram London and Hertfordshire . Of the 18 Provincial

candidates , West Yorkshire is responsible for Nos . 14 , 18 , and 22 , and " arwickshire for Nos . 20 and 28 , the latter having only this chance of success . Of the rest , No . 1 , from Hants and the Isle 01 wi ght , who has no further chance than this of winning : a

place , has already figured at four elections , and brings forward 3 2 9 votes to this ballot . No . 3 , from Devonshire , scored 520 l 0 'esin April last , and No . 4 , from Cheshire , g 5 votes . All the hers are newly-approved candidates , No . 8 being from South

ales ( W . D . ); No . 9 from Surrey ; No . 10 from Dorsetshire ; •™ - U from North Wales ; No . 12 from Northumberland ; No . 7 fro m Kent ; No . 19 from Cyprus ; No . 21 from Middlesex ; p 23 from North Wales and South Wales ( W . D . ); and No . 24 rom Durham . Of the whole 28 girls , 24 are fatherless , two

will take place at the Quarterl y Court of Governors and Subscribers , which will be held at Freemasons Tavern , on Friday , the 9 th October . The number of vacancies to be competed for is , unfortunately , limited to 14 , but the number of

candidates is 44 , of whom 20 remain over from the April election , and the other 24 have since had their names placed on the list . London is directly responsible for iS of these children , and has a part interest in the success of one other , while the

Provinces and Districts Abroad contribute the remaining 25 . The London candidates arc as follow : No . 1 , who has taken part in five ballots , and , as a result , has 2046 votes standing to his credit ; No . 2 , who has only this chance left him of securing

admission . However , he starts with 1461 ) votes to his credit , and if his friends and supporters exert a sufficient amount of energy in his behalf , there ought to be very little doubt about his winning a place . No . 3 , who has also stood three Flections ,

will start on this occasion with 1850 votes , while No . 4 brings forward 1118 votes from his three previous ballots . Nos . 9 and 10 began their candidature in October , 18 95 , and start , the former with 1206 votes and the latter with 750 votes from their

two previous attempts , while Nos . 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , lS , and 20 were all candidates for the first time at the Flection in April last , and received , respectively , 811 , 115 , 45 , 235 , 529 , and 1352 votes . The others , namely , Nos . 25 , 26 , 28 , 30 , 35 , and 39 are

newlyapproved candidates , and of these No . 30 has this one and only chance of obtaining admission into the School . No . 27 , in whom London and Berkshire have a joint interest , is also a new candidate . Of the Provincial 2 ^ . Staffordshire furnishes Nos . 22

and 43 , but the rest are distributed singly among Provinces and Districts . Thus No . 5 , who brings forward 35 votes from the last two elections , hails from Herefordshire ; and No . 6 , whose name has been on the list for the same length of time , but who

starts on his third and last attempt with 1426 votes to Ins credit , is an Oxfordshire lad . No . 7 , from Cumberland and Westmorland , has 47 votes to the good from the elections in October , 18 95 , and April , 18 9 6 , and No . 8 , from Essex , has 3 62 votes . No .

11 , from West Lancashire and Madras , brings forward 2212 voles from last April , and No . 12 , Irom the Argentine Republic , 555 votes ; while No . 13 , who has only this chance left him , hails from Somersetshire and Wiltshire , and will enter upon his last

attempt with 73 6 votes in hand . No . 19 , from Middlesex , brings forward I 45 votes from April , but all the rest are newly-approved candidates—that is to say , No . 21 , from Devonshire ; No . 23 , from Cheshire ; No . 24 , from Surrey ; No . 29 , from Northants

and Hunts ; No . 31 , from Derbyshire ; No . 32 , from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight ; No . 33 , from West Lancashire ; No . 34 , from North Wales and South Wales ( W . D . ) ; Nos . 3 6 and 37 , from North and Fast Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire
