M ., in moving that 30 guineas be given to the

VJasontc uhanttes , stated that the balance-sheet , which J , ad been approved that day , showed the largest amount that they had ever had standing to the credit of the lodge , vhich v » as the richest one in the province . This having been unanimously carried , the lodge was closed , and the brethren partook of an excellent banquet , .. poared by Bro . Kerbey Bouen , which was appreciated .

At the conclusion of the repast the W . M . gave the usual toasts with commendable brevity , and which were duly honoured . Bro . Dearing , P . M ., P . G . S . of W ., responded on behalf 0 f " The Prov . Grand Officers , " and remarked that he hoped the time was not far distant when there would be more members of the lodge Provincial Grand Officers .

The acting I . P . M ., Bro . Linscott , in giving the toast of 11 The Worshipful Master , " stated that the lodge was fortunate in having so good a Master . They had seen his work that night , his geniality , and his good old English face , and they wished him a happy and prosperous year of office . The toast was received with great enthusiasm , as was

the W . AI . on rising to respond . He was much gratified at his reception and said that he had done his best for the lodge and would continue to do so , and hoped that no one would ever regret having placed him in that exalted position . The Worshipful Alaster in a few well chosen words gave the toast of " The Initiate , " who replied , and said that the eloquent speeches that they had heard left him very little

to say , but he hoped to become a good member . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Visitors , " whom he cordiall y welcomed . They had a good number present . Thelodge had the reputation of looking after their visitors , and he hoped during his term of office to keep it up . Bro . Tuck , P . AL , Prov . G . S . B . Essex , in reply , said that It was not the first time he had been there , but he always

enjoyed himself . He congratulated the out-going Alaster and the Installing Alaster on the work they had witnessed that day . He mentioned that his old friend , Bro . Stiles , P . M ., was a candidate for the Grand Treasurership and he hoped the lodge would give him their hearty support . No other candidate could show a better record than Bro . Stiles , who was eminently fitted for that office .

The Worshipful gave the next toast , "The Installing Master , Bro . Allen . " He ( the W . M . ) wished the toast had been in better hands . The ceremony was very impressive and could not have been done better . Bro . Allen replied that it was to him a labour of . love . He had the honour of installing 11 members in that lodge . He had never seen better working than that of the

outgoing Alaster . In giving "The Past Alasters , " the W . AI . remarked that the brethren knew their capabilities and they were ever ready when called upon to do anything for the benefit of the lodge . Bro . Linscott , in reply , said that he had installed Bro . Allen , the star of the lodge , which he ventured to think vvas

a greater honour than installing 11 Alasters . Bro . Loxley also replied . In eulogistic terms the Worshipful Master gave " The Treasurer and Secretary , " who both responded , Bro . Finch , the former , stating that the lodge held the proudest position in the province . They had plenty of money , some of which they had that day voted away in the cause of

Charity . Bro . Dearing also suitably replied , remarking that he had had the honour of responding as Secretary for the last seven years . The Worshipful Master next gave " The Officers of the Lodge . " They had seen that day what efficient officers they had . and with their assistance he hoped to be able to

carry out the duties of the lodge . Bro . James , S . W ., in reply , stated that ; he . felt certain that the W . AL vvould keep up the great prestige of the lodge . The Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to an end . During the evening Bros . Wright , Brooks , and Page vocally entertained the brethren .

MAIDSTONE . . Robinson Lodge ( No . 2046 ) . —The installation meeting of this prosperous lodge was held at the Freemasons' Hall on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst ., a dispensation having been granted by Earl Amherst , Prov . CM ., to meet a week earlier than the usual date . The members of

the lodge attended in good numbers , and there vvere also present a large number of visitors from the other lodges in [ he town and province . Amongst those present were Bros . R . McVicar , W . Institution , which was carried by acclamation , and briefly acknowledged by Bro . R . AlcVicar , who intimated his intention of placing the votes in the name of his youngest daughter . After the Auditor's report and balance-sheet ( which showed a balance in hand of L 120 ) , had been adopted , and other routine business transacted , the brethren proceeded to the Mitre Hotel to partake of the banquet , which was

served by Bro . R . McVicar , I . P . M ., in most excellent style . Several distinguished brethren who had been unable to attend the meeting of the lodge joined the festive board to support the very popular [ newly-installed VV . AI ., who presided in a very able and genial manner , amongst whom must be mentioned Bro . Alfred Spencer , P . M ., P . G . S . B . Eng ., Prov . Grand Sec . Kent ;! also Bro . R . T . Tatham , P . M . 172 . 5 , Prov . S . G . W .

The Worshipful Alaster having proposed the toasts of " The Queen and Craft" and "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , " and the brethren allowed to indulge in the fragrant weed , a most enjoyable evening was spent , the W . M ., with his usual forethought , having interspersed the toasts with a previously-arranged musical program me for the delectation of the brethren , which was "really enhanced by his having been able to secure the services of

Miss Edith Attewell and Air . W . S . Attewell , of London , whose excellent singing caused repeated bursts of applause from the brethren assembled . The Tyler ' s toast brought to a close one of the most successful installation meetings of the Robinson Lodge , and the newly-installed Master has already done much to show that he will use every endeavour to make it one of the most prosperous lodges in the Province of Kent .

MANCHESTER . Affability Lodgo ( No . 317 ) . —The regular monthly meeting was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Cooper-street , on Thursday , the 3 rd inst ., when there were present Bro . S . confirmed . The charge was delivered to Bro . J . Charlton by the J . W ., Bro . F . Spencer . Bro . J . Charlton was then passed to the Second Degree by the Worshipful Master , who also presented the working tools in his well known and impressive manner . The Secretary ( acting ) gave notice that the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lancashire would be held on Thursday , the 24 th inst ., in the Gentlertiens' Concert Hall , Peter-street . The visitors expressed

their hearty good wishes and congratulations . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned for refreshments . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts vvere duly given and most heartily responded to . The Worshipful Alaster proposed the toast of "The Newly-Passed Bro . Charlton , " who duly acknowledged the kind wishes of the lodge .

Bro . Robinson , P . M ., proposed . "The Health of the Visitors . " Bros . Webb , Lane , Holland , and Richards responded , praising the lodge working , and thc most hospitable manner in which they had been received . Bro . Dawson , P . AL , proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., " and spoke in high and flowing terms of Bro . Staton ' s working . The Worshipful Master replied and thanked the brethren

for their kindness and good wishes . "The Health of the Officers" was then proposed and received with acclamation . Bros . J . Read , S . VV ., and F . Spencer , J . VV ., responded in a most eloquent manner . The Tyler's toast brought the list to a close . Bros . Walmsley . L . Richards , H . Grimshaw , A . Rottmayer , and J . [ Harwicke-AIarsh by their songs and recitations added greatly to the pleasantness of the evening .

SALFORD . Newall Lodge ( No . 1134 ) . —The installation meeting of the above lodge was held on Tuesday , the ist inst ., at Adelphi House . The lodge vvas opened by theW . M ., every officer being in his place . The minutes of the ftrevious meeting vvere read and conlirmed . The Instating Master , Bro . Afterwards he was greeted and saluted by the whole of the brethren , under the direction of Bro . A . H . Duffin , P . M . The working tools were

presented by Bros . Samuel Ayland , P . M ., and John Waring , P . AL The warrant vvas delivered by the Installing Master . The officers were invested in the following order by the W . M .: Bros . M . After

" Hearty good wishes" had been expressed from the numerous visiting and other brethren present , the lodge was closed by the W . M . in a manner which predicts that . the chair will be very ably filled during the ensuing year . The usual dining room at the Adclpihi being inadequate to accommodate the large number of brethren present , on account of the great popularity of the newly-installed W . M ., Bro . Webb , the banquet had to be held at the Freemasons' Hall , Manchester , where every arrangement had been made for the festival .

Provincial Meetings.

The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given ' and responded to ( and limit to our space only prevents us from giving them at length ) , suffice it to say they were all short and to the point . During the evening a very handsome marble timepiece , of unique design , with pillars of granite of the Doric order , was presented by the W . M . to the retiring Master , which had been subscribed for by the brethren , and was duly

acknowledged and appreciated by the latter . The pleasure of the evening was greatly enhanced by the delightful music of the before-mentioned brethren , assisted by Bro . John Smith , P . M ., P . Stwds . ; and James VV . Boulter , Tyler , who was specially complimented by the Grand Officers present , and told he was the smartest Tyler in the province . Bro . Tom Ryde , I . P . M ., after the investitures , proposed thata Past Alaster ' s jewel should be presented to Bro . N . Grunwell , LP . AL , in recognition of valuable services rendered by him to the lodge as W . AL during the past year . This was unanimously carried ,

and the jewel was presented to Bro . Grunwell by the W . M ., who announced that the retiring W . M . had left the lodge with a clean balance-sheet . Other formal business having been transacted , including the reading of a number of letters from the Prov . G . AL , Earl Amherst , and others , regretting inability to attend , and wishing the W . M . every success in his year of ofiice .

The lodge was closed , and an adjournment made to the Wellington Hotel , where Host Bro . Brady had provided one of those excellent dinners for which this hotel has such a reputation . The menu was ample and recherche , and the waiting generally all that could be desired . The usual loyal toasts— " The Oueen and the Craft , " and " The M . W . Grand Alaster , ' H . R . H . the Prince of

VVales —were proposed from the chair , and Bro . Duret , in proposing "The AI . W . Pro Grand Alaster , the Earl of Lathom ; the R . W . Deputy Grand Alaster , the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " saidthatallthosewhohadbeenpermittedandenabled to attend Grand Lodge must have been struck by the great interest those worthy and illustrious Masons took in the

Craft . He had frequently seen the Earl of Lathom presiding over Grand Lodge and also the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , and he might say they did so with such perfection that all Alasons acknowledged their authority . Ihey were ready at all times to do what they could for the interest of the Craft . Some two years ago when Earl Lathom presided over the meeting of the Boys' School he brougnt

something like ^ , 6000 from the Province of Kent . He coupled with the toast the name of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . James Smith Eastes . Bro . J . Smith Eastes , in reply , said he felt it a very great pleasure and privilege to resp ind to the toast , and in so doing said he felt he was to some extent a representative of the important Province of Kent , of which he had been

appointed Grand Deacon . T he Earl of Lathom especiall y was a grand man of business and had he been in the chair on the last occasion when the Grand Council met he felt certain the result as to the appointment of additional Grand Officers would have been different . It had been the

intention of Lord Lathom and the executive to create a certain number of new Grand Officers , a matter in which he ithe speaker ) rejoiced , because there would be a better chance to many of preferment . Their only hope vvas that the subject would be again brought forward when Earl Lathom would bc present and then he felt sure it would be unani-

VJasontc uhanttes , stated that the balance-sheet , which J , ad been approved that day , showed the largest amount that they had ever had standing to the credit of the lodge , vhich v » as the richest one in the province . This having been unanimously carried , the lodge was closed , and the brethren partook of an excellent banquet , .. poared by Bro . Kerbey Bouen , which was appreciated .

At the conclusion of the repast the W . M . gave the usual toasts with commendable brevity , and which were duly honoured . Bro . Dearing , P . M ., P . G . S . of W ., responded on behalf 0 f " The Prov . Grand Officers , " and remarked that he hoped the time was not far distant when there would be more members of the lodge Provincial Grand Officers .

The acting I . P . M ., Bro . Linscott , in giving the toast of 11 The Worshipful Master , " stated that the lodge was fortunate in having so good a Master . They had seen his work that night , his geniality , and his good old English face , and they wished him a happy and prosperous year of office . The toast was received with great enthusiasm , as was

the W . AI . on rising to respond . He was much gratified at his reception and said that he had done his best for the lodge and would continue to do so , and hoped that no one would ever regret having placed him in that exalted position . The Worshipful Alaster in a few well chosen words gave the toast of " The Initiate , " who replied , and said that the eloquent speeches that they had heard left him very little

to say , but he hoped to become a good member . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Visitors , " whom he cordiall y welcomed . They had a good number present . Thelodge had the reputation of looking after their visitors , and he hoped during his term of office to keep it up . Bro . Tuck , P . AL , Prov . G . S . B . Essex , in reply , said that It was not the first time he had been there , but he always

enjoyed himself . He congratulated the out-going Alaster and the Installing Alaster on the work they had witnessed that day . He mentioned that his old friend , Bro . Stiles , P . M ., was a candidate for the Grand Treasurership and he hoped the lodge would give him their hearty support . No other candidate could show a better record than Bro . Stiles , who was eminently fitted for that office .

The Worshipful gave the next toast , "The Installing Master , Bro . Allen . " He ( the W . M . ) wished the toast had been in better hands . The ceremony was very impressive and could not have been done better . Bro . Allen replied that it was to him a labour of . love . He had the honour of installing 11 members in that lodge . He had never seen better working than that of the

outgoing Alaster . In giving "The Past Alasters , " the W . AI . remarked that the brethren knew their capabilities and they were ever ready when called upon to do anything for the benefit of the lodge . Bro . Linscott , in reply , said that he had installed Bro . Allen , the star of the lodge , which he ventured to think vvas

a greater honour than installing 11 Alasters . Bro . Loxley also replied . In eulogistic terms the Worshipful Master gave " The Treasurer and Secretary , " who both responded , Bro . Finch , the former , stating that the lodge held the proudest position in the province . They had plenty of money , some of which they had that day voted away in the cause of

Charity . Bro . Dearing also suitably replied , remarking that he had had the honour of responding as Secretary for the last seven years . The Worshipful Master next gave " The Officers of the Lodge . " They had seen that day what efficient officers they had . and with their assistance he hoped to be able to

carry out the duties of the lodge . Bro . James , S . W ., in reply , stated that ; he . felt certain that the W . AL vvould keep up the great prestige of the lodge . The Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to an end . During the evening Bros . Wright , Brooks , and Page vocally entertained the brethren .

MAIDSTONE . . Robinson Lodge ( No . 2046 ) . —The installation meeting of this prosperous lodge was held at the Freemasons' Hall on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst ., a dispensation having been granted by Earl Amherst , Prov . CM ., to meet a week earlier than the usual date . The members of

H . the Prince of Wales , " and the brethren allowed to indulge in the fragrant weed , a most enjoyable evening was spent , the W . M ., with his usual forethought , having interspersed the toasts with a previously-arranged musical program me for the delectation of the brethren , which was "really enhanced by his having been able to secure the services of

Miss Edith Attewell and Air . W . S . Attewell , of London , whose excellent singing caused repeated bursts of applause from the brethren assembled . The Tyler ' s toast brought to a close one of the most successful installation meetings of the Robinson Lodge , and the newly-installed Master has already done much to show that he will use every endeavour to make it one of the most prosperous lodges in the Province of Kent .

Provincial Meetings.

The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given ' and responded to ( and limit to our space only prevents us from giving them at length ) , suffice it to say they were all short and to the point . During the evening a very handsome marble timepiece , of unique design , with pillars of granite of the Doric order , was presented by the W . M . to the retiring Master , which had been subscribed for by the brethren , and was duly

acknowledged and appreciated by the latter . The pleasure of the evening was greatly enhanced by the delightful music of the before-mentioned brethren , assisted by Bro . John Smith , P . M ., P . and the jewel was presented to Bro . Grunwell by the W . M ., who announced that the retiring W . M . had left the lodge with a clean balance-sheet . Other formal business having been transacted , including the reading of a number of letters from the Prov . G . AL , Earl Amherst , and others , regretting inability to attend , and wishing the W . M . every success in his year of ofiice .

The lodge was closed , and an adjournment made to the Wellington Hotel , where Host Bro . Brady had provided one of those excellent dinners for which this hotel has such a reputation . The menu was ample and recherche , and the waiting generally all that could be desired . The usual loyal toasts— " The Oueen and the Craft , " and " The M . W . Grand Alaster , ' H . R . H . the Prince of

VVales —were proposed from the chair , and Bro . Duret , in proposing "The AI . W . Pro Grand Alaster , the Earl of Lathom ; the R . W . Deputy Grand Alaster , the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " saidthatallthosewhohadbeenpermittedandenabled to attend Grand Lodge must have been struck by the great interest those worthy and illustrious Masons took in the

Craft . He had frequently seen the Earl of Lathom presiding over Grand Lodge and also the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , and he might say they did so with such perfection that all Alasons acknowledged their authority . Ihey were ready at all times to do what they could for the interest of the Craft . Some two years ago when Earl Lathom presided over the meeting of the Boys' School he brougnt

something like ^ , 6000 from the Province of Kent . He coupled with the toast the name of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . James Smith Eastes . Bro . J . Smith Eastes , in reply , said he felt it a very great pleasure and privilege to resp ind to the toast , and in so doing said he felt he was to some extent a representative of the important Province of Kent , of which he had been

appointed Grand Deacon . T he Earl of Lathom especiall y was a grand man of business and had he been in the chair on the last occasion when the Grand Council met he felt certain the result as to the appointment of additional Grand Officers would have been different . It had been the

intention of Lord Lathom and the executive to create a certain number of new Grand Officers , a matter in which he ithe speaker ) rejoiced , because there would be a better chance to many of preferment . Their only hope vvas that the subject would be again brought forward when Earl Lathom would bc present and then he felt sure it would be unani-
