The American Bar has made wonderful progress in popularity in this country . It is not so very many years since sherry cobblers were about the only kind of light cooling summer drink purchasable here , and even these , would , according to present ideas , not be regarded with favour as artistic concoctions . Now , thanks to the skill displayed in the preparation of these agreeable beverages , and above
all , to the admirable appliances for making them which have been invented , there is hardly a tavern , hotel , or restaurant of any standing where they may not be had of fine quality and at modest charges . Among those who have secured fame by their excellence in the manufacture of American Bar Apparatus is the firm of Messrs . Dows , Clark , and Co ., of Compton House , 46 and 47 Frith-street ,
Soho-squarc , W . This is evidenced by the fact that at recent exhibitions Messrs . Dows and Co ., have been awarded , at different times , as many as twelve gold and silver medals , to say nothing of the innumerable testimonials they have received from wholesale and private buyers , to the quality and cheapness of their manufactures . We
advise any of our friends who may wish to purchase any of these requisites , to extend their patronage to this firm , or , if they prefer trusting to their own judgment , let them visit Compton House , at the address stated , and see for themselves how ingenious , how sterling in quality , and lastly , how inexpensive are the contrivances invented for Ameiican Bars , and Bars generally , by Messrs . Dow . s , Clark , and Co .
BRO . G . S . GRAHAM'S ANNUAL CONCERT . Bro . G . S . Graham ' s 20 th annual concert took place at St . Andrew ' s Hall , on Tuesday , when we are glad to say there was a numerous and very appreciative audience piesent , who greeted with hearty applause the chief artistes and especially the beneficiary himself , whose long services as a public entertainer fully deserved such a reception . Where
all acquitted themselves so admirably , it were churlish perhaps to specify any particular contribution , but Bro . Graham , Miss Amy Graham and Mr . Ferdinand L . Dunkley were cordially acclaimed , as likewise were Madame Lansdell Sims , Madame E . Saunders ( solo pianiste ) , Miss Pauline Featherby , and Messrs . Alison
Lister , H . Prenton , and Walter Toomer . It must have been especially gratifying to Bro . Graham to listen to the applause whi . h greeted the performance of his new inarch , a very meritorious composition . There were no encores , and the concert , which commenced at eight oYI- ck was therefore over exactly at 10 . 30 . Everything passed off admirably , and we congratulate Bro , Graham on the success of the evening .
