He vvas going to astonish the oldest inhabitant . I asked him how many good men he would get out of the 20 whom he expected to

raise . He thought about five—or 25 per cent . At the same ratio , how long would it take to turn his lodge into an undesirable body ? 1 don't know whether he meant that only about 25 per cent , would care anything for Masonry after they were raised , or that 75 per cent , were objectionable , but in either case the lodge would certainly be better off by not the record

" beating . " I am sorry to see such a spirit as is prevalent among some lodges , and I cannot hel p looking vvith suspicion upon every attempt to " beat the record . " I don't see that there is anything Masonic in this effort to over-reach others in the making ol" Masons . An ounce of pure gold is worth many pounds of dross . — Ncw York Dispatch .

HOLIOWAV ' S OIXT . MEXT AND PILLS . —Rheumatism and Neuralgia . —Though the former disease remorselessly attacks persons of all ages , and the latter ruthlessly selects its victims from the weak and delicate , the persevering use of these remedies vvill inl . ilibly cure both complaints . After the affected parts have been diligently fomented with hot brine , and the skin thoroughly dried

, Holioway ' s Ointment must he rubbed in rirnvy and evenly for ten minutes twice a day , and his Pills taken according to the printed direciions wrapped round each box of his medicine . Both Ointment and fills are accompanied by instructions designed for the public at large , and no invalid , who attentively reads them , can now be at any loss how to doctor himself successfully . — ADVT .

Grand Secretary Parvin , Iowa , would exclude all nonaffiliated Masons from visiting * lodges . The lodges , he says , are supported wholly by the annual dues of its members . VVhat right , then , has a Mason to dimit from his lodge , carry that dimit for a number of years , and thereby escape all tax for the support of Masonry , and yet enjoy all its privileges save that alone of voting in the lodge ?

The Venice of Olympia gets more and more difficult to describe in words as the work progresses , which may account for the doubts that have been expressed by a few who have only read about the thing / especting the intense realism of the undertaking . But " seeing is believing , " and those who have been favoured vvith an inspection of the arrangements cannot help being impressed by the solid appearance of the

model city of canals and palaces . Considerable advance has been made during the past few days in the section devoted to Modern Venice , and in another fortnight this interesting portion will no doubt be in a fair way towards completion . The Rialto Bridge , which is being represented

natural size , promises to be a noble-looking structure , and the greatest pains are being taken in the architectural details of this and other buildings . Even the gondoliers , who have lately arrived from Venice , look with amazement upon what has already been accomplished , and many of them are reminded very vividly of their native place .

I heard a Master boasting the other day that he was going to " beat the record . " He vvas going to fire at one shot from his Masonic mortar more full-fledged Master Masons than had ever been fired before at one time in the history of the metropolitan district .

HOLIOWAV ' S OIXT . , Holioway ' s Ointment must he rubbed in rirnvy and evenly for ten minutes twice a day , and his Pills taken according to the printed direciions wrapped round each box of his medicine .
