ASP ATRIA . Splway Lodge ( No . 1220 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge svas held on Alonday , the ist inst ., at the Grapes Hotel . Formerly the lodge svas domiciled at Silloth , but for some years past Masonry had been at a very losv ebb in the svatering place named , and so , to
preserve the svarrant , it svas deemed politic to remove to the inland tosvn of Aspatria , svhich svas sanctioned by the M . W . Grand Alaster . The svisdom of the step taken last year has already been strongly evidenced , and , svith a revival of trade , there is every reason to hope that the Solway Lodge svill ultimately occupy a prominent position in the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland .

The brethren , to the number of nearly 50 , then adjourned to the banquet room , svhere an excellent dinner svas served , after svhich the usual loyal and Alasonic toasts svere duly honoured , Bro . Bullock , Prov . G . Sec , replying in . a humorous speech for that of "The Prov . Grand Officers , " and Bro . James Terry , in his usually earnest and effective manner , for that of " The Alasonic Charities . " The toasts
of "TheW . M ., " "The Initiates , " " The Visitors , " and " The Installing Alaster " svere likewise drunk svith great enthusiasm , svhile vocal interludes by Bros . Probert , Cranston , Tibbatts , Gray , and Alason , which svere a treat to listen to , svere much and deservedly applauded . In the course of the evening Bro . Abbott's list svas passed round , and before the meeting dispersed that brother had
the satisfaction of announcing a total of donations and subscriptions amounting to not far short of £ 60 , with every prospect of further additions being made before the Festival takes place . The meeting , which had been a very protracted one , and terminated , therefore , at a somewhat later hour than usual , will rank as one of the most successful in the annals of the Gladsmuir Lodge .

The plate was eventually entrusted to Bro . Beament for this purpose . Bro . Baskett also presented the lodge svith some illuminated votes of thanks , presented to him on the various occasions on which he had acted as Charity Stesvard . Votes
of thanks to Bros . Purkis and Baskett svere adopted . Bro . C . G . Purkis then gave an excellent address on "Masonic Topics , " svhich he divided under three heads—Firstly , " What is Freemasonry ? ; " secondly , " Why do we call ourselves Free and Accepted Masons ?; " and , lastly , "What do sve mean svhen sve speak of our lodge ? " The address was listened to with great interest by the brethren present ,
and at its close a vote of thanks to Bro . Purkis svas proposed by the VV . M ., and seconded by Bro . Baskett , and briefly acknosvledged by Bro . Purkis . " Hearty good svishes " from the visiting brethren and the J . W . having been given , and the lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned for their customary refreshment and social intercourse , under the genial presidency of the W . AI .
CAMBRIDGE . Scientific Lodge ( No . 88 ) . —At the monthly meeting of this lodge , held at the Lion Hotel , Petty Cury , on Alonday last , the W . AL , Bro . VV , P . Spalding , P . P . G . The svisdom of the step taken last year has already been strongly evidenced , and , svith a revival of trade , there is every reason to hope that the Solway Lodge svill ultimately occupy a prominent position in the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland .

Bullock , Prov . G . Sec , replying in . a humorous speech for that of "The Prov . Grand Officers , " and Bro . James Terry , in his usually earnest and effective manner , for that of " The Alasonic Charities . " The toasts
of "TheW . M ., " "The Initiates , " " The Visitors , " and " The Installing Alaster " svere likewise drunk svith great enthusiasm , svhile vocal interludes by Bros . Probert , Cranston , Tibbatts , Gray , and Alason , which svere a treat to listen to , svere much and deservedly applauded . In the course of the evening Bro . Abbott's list svas passed round , and before the meeting dispersed that brother had
the satisfaction of announcing a total of donations and subscriptions amounting to not far short of £ 60 , with every prospect of further additions being made before the Festival takes place . The meeting , which had been a very protracted one , and terminated , therefore , at a somewhat later hour than usual , will rank as one of the most successful in the annals of the Gladsmuir Lodge .

" The address was listened to with great interest by the brethren present ,
