Truscott as Recorder from 1875 , and said the chapter felt greatly indebted to him for his well directed efforts from its institution as their " model Recorder . "

S ., Sir Knight Colonel Burdett , honoured the conclave with his presence , and Sir Knight Capt . Hunter , M . E . Grand Viceroy of Scotland , was a visitor . The minutes of the previous convocation having been read and confirmed , upon

the motion of Sir Knight Levander , Sir Knight Lord Inverurie , Grand Sovereign of the Red Cross Order in Scotand , and Sir Knight Captain Hunter , the Grand Viceroy of that country , were unanimously elected honorary members . In the absence of Sir Knight Colonel Peters , in whose name the motion stood , thc Recorder proposed that in future the annual subscription of two guineas should be

paid in advance at the meeting 111 December , instead of by half-yearly payments of one guinea as heretofore . This motion having been seconded , was unanimously carried . Previously to the conclave being closed a Past Sovereign's jewel was voted by acclamation to Sir Knight Kingston . The election of M . P . S . resulted unanimously in favour of Sir Knight Col . Peters ; Sir Knight Macartney , M . P ., was

elected V . E . ; Sir Knight Cubitt , Treas . ; and Sir Knight Levander , Recorder for the year ensuing . The banquet which followed the proceedings of the conclave was well served . Upon the removal of the cloth the long routine of toasts in connection with the Order was duly honoured . The M . I . G . S . having briefly replied to the toast of his health " The M . E . G . V . and the rest of the Grand Officers " followed . This pledge was acknowledged by Sir Knights

Cubitt , Levander , and Moss . " The Health of the M . P . S . " was ably proposed by Sir Knight Holden , and warmly received . Sir Knight Kingston having responded , proposed in very flattering terms the toast of " The Visiters , " which pledge was replied to at length by Sir Knight Captain Hunter . The remaining healths followed in quick succession , and the Sentinel ' s toast at an early hour terminated the proceedings , which were throughout most enjovable .

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A MASONIC TEMPLE AT CANTERBURY .

An interesting ceremony took place at Canterbury last week , the occasion being the laying of the corner stone of a Masonic Temple , which it is intended to erect for the use of the various lodges held in the city . The stone was laid

by the Mayor ( Bro . J . Hemery ) , a Past Grand J unior Warden , in the presence of a large gathering of Masons , including many Provincial Grand Officers and a vast assembly ot the general public . The ceremony was performed with full Masonic honours , and after the stone had been well and truly laid , Bro . the ltev . James Mangan , D . D ., delivered an eloquent oration , i „ which he extolled the

ex-< __ l __ c __> of Freemasoncy , and for the information of the outside world mentioned the principal benefits which accrue from it as an institution . Among the brethren from a distance who attended the ceremony was the Hon . A . E . Gathorne Hardy , M . P . All the officers were attired in full regalia , and the scene was one of an imposing character . In the evening a banquet was held , which was very largely attended .
