The financial statement of the Treasurer was deemed so satisfactory that another vote of five guineas was made to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . A similar sum was voted towards a testimonial now being raised on behalf of Lieut .-Col . Clerke , in appreciation of his services as " Secretary General . " Other grants were also made ,

and much satisfaction was expressed at the continued prosperity of the chapter . Two candidates were perfected by the M . W . S ., assisted by Bro . Hughan , 32 ( P . M . W . S . ) , who , as usual , communicated an interesting lecture on the intei mediate Degrees , from the Fourth to the Seventeen

Degrees inclusive . At the banquet , presided over by Bro . Truscott , Bro . Hughan , in proposing " The Health of the New M . W . S ., " alluded to the labours of Bro . Truscott as Recorder from 1875 , and said the chapter felt greatly indebted to him for his well directed efforts from its institution as their " model Recorder . "

PREMIER CONCLAVE . — A very excellent meeting in connection with this old and distinguished convocation was held on Monday , the 1 st inst ., at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Gtueen-strett . Among those in attendance were Sir Knights Kingston , M . P . S . ; the Rev . P . M . Holden , I . P . M . P . S . ; H . A . Dubois , P . M . P . S ., acting V . E . ; Macartney , M . P ., S . G . ; T . Cubitt , P . M . P . S ., & c .,

Treas . ; H . C . Levander , P . M . P . S ., & c , Recorder ; J . T . Moss , P . M . P . S . ; T . C . Walls , A . D . C ; Fowler , Blake , & c ; Gilbert and Harrison , Sentinels . The M . I . G . S ., Sir Knight Colonel Burdett , honoured the conclave with his presence , and Sir Knight Capt . Hunter , M . E . Grand Viceroy of Scotland , was a visitor . The minutes of the previous convocation having been read and confirmed , upon

the motion of Sir Knight Levander , Sir Knight Lord Inverurie , Grand Sovereign of the Red Cross Order in Scotand , and Sir Knight Captain Hunter , the Grand Viceroy of that country , were unanimously elected honorary members . In the absence of Sir Knight Colonel Peters , in whose name the motion stood , thc Recorder proposed that in future the annual subscription of two guineas should be

paid in advance at the meeting 111 December , instead of by half-yearly payments of one guinea as heretofore . This motion having been seconded , was unanimously carried . Previously to the conclave being closed a Past Sovereign's jewel was voted by acclamation to Sir Knight Kingston . The election of M . P . S . resulted unanimously in favour of Sir Knight Col . Peters ; Sir Knight Macartney , M . P ., was

elected V . E . ; Sir Knight Cubitt , Treas . ; and Sir Knight Levander , Recorder for the year ensuing . The banquet which followed the proceedings of the conclave was well served . Upon the removal of the cloth the long routine of toasts in connection with the Order was duly honoured . The M . I . G . S . having briefly replied to the toast of his health " The M . E . G . V . and the rest of the Grand Officers " followed . This pledge was acknowledged by Sir Knights

Cubitt , Levander , and Moss . " The Health of the M . P . S . " was ably proposed by Sir Knight Holden , and warmly received . Sir Knight Kingston having responded , proposed in very flattering terms the toast of " The Visiters , " which pledge was replied to at length by Sir Knight Captain Hunter . The remaining healths followed in quick succession , and the Sentinel ' s toast at an early hour terminated the proceedings , which were throughout most enjovable .

The minutes of the previous Grand Council having been read and confirmed , the Grand Recorder read a report of the Board of General Purposes , congratulating the Grand Council upon the progress the Cryptic Rites were making .

It appeared from the report that nine warrants had been granted and 140 certificates issued since the last meeting of the Grand Council . Jate husbands' annuities . All certificates being regular the same were granted . It was cairied unanimously that it be left with the House Committee to invite the Stewards of the late festival to the Institution as usual . The proceedings closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman .

Wilson ' s matter being again brought up , on the motion of Bro . John Constable , seconded by Bro . Winter , thc House Committee were requested to take it into

consideration at their next meeting , and bring about an amicable setttcment . Two petitions were passed , and three outfits granted . A notice of motion was received from Bro . W . II . Spaull , North Wales and Shropshire , for giving additional votes for Stewards for third and subsequent Stewardships . The Committee then adjourned .

Laying The Foundation Stone Of A Masonic Temple At Canterbury.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A MASONIC TEMPLE AT CANTERBURY .

An interesting ceremony took place at Canterbury last week , the occasion being the laying of the corner stone of a Masonic Temple , which it is intended to erect for the use of the various lodges held in the city . The stone was laid

by the Mayor ( Bro . J . Hemery ) , a Past Grand J unior Warden , in the presence of a large gathering of Masons , including many Provincial Grand Officers and a vast assembly ot the general public . The ceremony was performed with full Masonic honours , and after the stone had been well and truly laid , Bro . the ltev . James Mangan , D . D ., delivered an eloquent oration , i „ which he extolled the

ex-< __ l __ c __> of Freemasoncy , and for the information of the outside world mentioned the principal benefits which accrue from it as an institution . Among the brethren from a distance who attended the ceremony was the Hon . A . E . Gathorne Hardy , M . P . All the officers were attired in full regalia , and the scene was one of an imposing character . In the evening a banquet was held , which was very largely attended .

principal chair , and as an expression of the thanks of the companions for the zeal and assiduity with which he had endeavoured to promote the welfare of Royal Arch Masonry in Barrow . 25 th Feb ., 1880 . " E . Comp . Haslam briefly expressed his thanks to his companions , and said he should always feel proud to wear such a mark of esteem and gratitude . The companions afterwards adjourned to the Imperial Hotel , where Comp . Minks provided an excellent banquet , after which the usual loyal and Royal Arch toasts were duly honoured .

S . ) , who , as usual , communicated an interesting lecture on the intei mediate Degrees , from the Fourth to the Seventeen

Degrees inclusive . At the banquet , presided over by Bro . Truscott , Bro . Hughan , in proposing " The Health of the New M . W . S ., " alluded to the labours of Bro . Truscott as Recorder from 1875 , and said the chapter felt greatly indebted to him for his well directed efforts from its institution as their " model Recorder . "

PREMIER CONCLAVE . — A very excellent meeting in connection with this old and distinguished convocation was held on Monday , the 1 st inst ., at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Gtueen-strett . Among those in attendance were Sir Knights Kingston , M . P . S . ; the Rev . P . M . Holden , I . P . M . P . S . ; H . A . Dubois , P . M . P . S ., acting V . E . ; Macartney , M . P ., S . Treas . ; H . C . Levander , P . M . P . S ., & c , Recorder ; J . T . Moss , P . M . P . S . ; T . C . Walls , A . D . C ; Fowler , Blake , & c ; Gilbert and Harrison , Sentinels . The M . I . G . S ., Sir Knight Colonel Burdett , honoured the conclave with his presence , and Sir Knight Capt . Hunter , M . E . Grand Viceroy of Scotland , was a visitor . The minutes of the previous convocation having been read and confirmed , upon

the motion of Sir Knight Levander , Sir Knight Lord Inverurie , Grand Sovereign of the Red Cross Order in Scotand , and Sir Knight Captain Hunter , the Grand Viceroy of that country , were unanimously elected honorary members . In the absence of Sir Knight Colonel Peters , in whose name the motion stood , thc Recorder proposed that in future the annual subscription of two guineas should be

paid in advance at the meeting 111 December , instead of by half-yearly payments of one guinea as heretofore . This motion having been seconded , was unanimously carried . Previously to the conclave being closed a Past Sovereign's jewel was voted by acclamation to Sir Knight Kingston . The election of M . P . S . resulted unanimously in favour of Sir Knight Col . Peters ; Sir Knight Macartney , M . P ., was

elected V . E . ; Sir Knight Cubitt , Treas . ; and Sir Knight Levander , Recorder for the year ensuing . The banquet which followed the proceedings of the conclave was well served . Upon the removal of the cloth the long routine of toasts in connection with the Order was duly honoured . The M . I . G . S . having briefly replied to the toast of his health " The M . E . G . V . and the rest of the Grand Officers " followed . This pledge was acknowledged by Sir Knights

Cubitt , Levander , and Moss . " The Health of the M . P . S . " was ably proposed by Sir Knight Holden , and warmly received . Sir Knight Kingston having responded , proposed in very flattering terms the toast of " The Visiters , " which pledge was replied to at length by Sir Knight Captain Hunter . The remaining healths followed in quick succession , and the Sentinel ' s toast at an early hour terminated the proceedings , which were throughout most enjovable .

consideration at their next meeting , and bring about an amicable setttcment . Two petitions were passed , and three outfits granted . A notice of motion was received from Bro . W . II . Spaull , North Wales and Shropshire , for giving additional votes for Stewards for third and subsequent Stewardships . The Committee then adjourned .

Laying The Foundation Stone Of A Masonic Temple At Canterbury.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A MASONIC TEMPLE AT CANTERBURY .

An interesting ceremony took place at Canterbury last week , the occasion being the laying of the corner stone of a Masonic Temple , which it is intended to erect for the use of the various lodges held in the city . The stone was laid

by the Mayor ( Bro . J . Hemery ) , a Past Grand J unior Warden , in the presence of a large gathering of Masons , including many Provincial Grand Officers and a vast assembly ot the general public . The ceremony was performed with full Masonic honours , and after the stone had been well and truly laid , Bro . the ltev . James Mangan , D . D ., delivered an eloquent oration , i „ which he extolled the

ex-< __ l __ c __> of Freemasoncy , and for the information of the outside world mentioned the principal benefits which accrue from it as an institution . Among the brethren from a distance who attended the ceremony was the Hon . A . E . Gathorne Hardy , M . P . All the officers were attired in full regalia , and the scene was one of an imposing character . In the evening a banquet was held , which was very largely attended .
