S ., proposed "The Healthof the Supreme Council , " and in most flattering terms their worthy and respected Chief Inspector-General C . J . Banister , 33 , who , he hoped , would for many years continue his regular attendance at their chapter , and this

meeting must be a proud and happy day for their dear brother to instal his son into the high position of M . W . S . of the chapter to which he has bestowed such fostering care . Indeed , it was a red letter day for all the members , and it gave him ( Bro . Craven ) the greatest pleasure in having the honour of proposing the health of his old friend .

On rising to return thanks , Bro . Banister was received right royally . He thanked III . Bro . Craven for his too flattering remarks , and the great kindness with which the brethren always received him at their meetings . He also thanked the visitors for their kindness in coming to support his son by their presence , and many of those illustrious brethren who had telegraphed inability to attend , no

doubt , would have been with them , but Saturday was an inconvenient day tj leave home . He thanked them for their kind wishes expressed for the success of his son as M . W . S . Bro . J . W . Monckman proposed " The Health of the Members of the 32 , 31 ° , and 30 . " He had hoped that all these Degrees would have been represented , but the letters read over in the chapter proved the kind and fraternal

feelings and great regret in not being able to do honour to the M . W . S . and chapter . III . Bros . J . Baiker and S . Kelley , 30 , returned thanks in most excellent speeches . 111 . Bro . Banister , S . G . I . G . 33 ° , proposed "The Health of his son Frank , " who he had installed that day into the high position of M . W . S . He had the greatest confidence

that the chapter would continue prosperous and looked after with the same care as the previous M . W . S . had done by their present M . W . S ., who was a worthy son , and had served most of the offices in the chapter to the satisfaction of the members , who had unanimously elected him to preside over them . The M . W . S . returned thanks in a neat and appropriate

speech , which was greatly applauded , and concluded by proposing "The Health of the P . M . W . S ., " which was replied to by HI . Bros . Craven , Monckman , Atherton , and Shaw , each expressing their great pleasure in witnessing so worthy a son as their M . W . S . installed by their old and worthy friend , his father , who they sincerely hoped might for many years be able to give them advice and direction ,

and they would assist the M « W . S . in upholding the prosperity and dignity of this beautiful Christian Degree . ' E . and P . Bro . C . L . Bernin proposed " The Health of the Officers of the Chapter , " which was ably responded toby Bros . Gill , ist General ; Wellsman , 2 nd General ; Beaumont , and Holdsworth , each promising to perfect themselves for their several offices to the satisfaction of

their chief , and to gain the approval of their kind Inspector-General , 111 . Bro . Banister . The last toast brought a most enjoyable and instructive meeting to an end . The harmony of the evening was greatly enhanced by the excellent and varied powers of the Organist on the

piano in grand solos and accompaniments to several capital songs exquisitely rendered by 111 . Bro . Atherton , 30 , Bros . Holdsworth , Beaumont , and Priestley . Several of the visitors who had come from a distance had to leave early , after expressing every good wish and prosperity to the chapter and its members .

Howard Thompson , A . C . Thorpe , Nelson Prower , Boulton , P . G . S . B . ; and W . W . Lee . The lodge was opened by the Secretary , Bro . C . F . MATIER , who , in commencing the proceedings , remarked that it

was their usual practice to work the ceremony of advancement , but , in order to render this Festival as attractive and instructive as possible , the lecture on the tracing board and the lecture of the Degree would be given . He then called upon Bro . T . POORE , who gave the lecture on the tracing board in an excellent and impressive manner that was thoroughly appreciated by all present . Fifteen

brethren having given in their names as joining members , Bro . GREEN , P . M ., carefully rendered the lecture of the Degree . On the motion of Bro . Earl of EUSTON , seconded by Bro . Col . SHADWELL H . CLERKE , a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bros . T . Poore and Green for their admirable working . Bro . MATIER proposed , Bro . Major

LAMBERT seconded , and it vvas resolved unanimously that the President of the Festival , Bro . the Earl of Euston , should be elected an honorary member . The Earl of EuSTON returned thanks for the honour , and said that as in the Craft , so in the Mark , whatever he could do to assist in the advancement of the Order he should be most happy to do .

Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet . " The Queen and Mark Masonry , " and " H . R H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M . M . M . " having been given in cordial terms by the CHAIRMAN , and being heartily received , "The Grand Officers" was also given from the chair , the Earl of EUSTON remarking that although a present Grand

Officer himself , he had the greatest pleasure in submitting the toast , knowing as he did the two distinguished brethren —the Pro G . M . and the Dep . CM . —at the head , and also having the pleasure of knowing the worthy brother on his right—Bro . A . F . Gadson , M . P ., Prov . G . M . Worcestershire—who would return thanks . He asked the brethren present to join him in wishing every success they possibly

could to men who had proved themselves by their work in the past , and by their promises for the future , such good and able supporters of Mark Masonry . They wanted workers , and they wanted men who would do more than work in the abstract , but who would take a sincere interest in it . In the Pro G . M . and the Dep . G . M . they had two brethren who had taken , and would take for the

rest of their term of oflice , an active interest , and would be ready to come forward when required . Speaking for the Marquis of Hertford , he could say that brother would come forward when there was work to do , and perform it to the best of his ability . Bro . A . F . GODSON , M . P ., Prov . G . M . Worcestershire , said it was with great pleasure that he rose to return thanks

for the toast so ably proposed and so kindly received . It had been his good lot to be personally acquainted with every Past Grand Master of that Order , and he rather prided himself that he was in some degree connected with Lord Hertford becoming a ruler in Mark Masonry as owing to circumstances that occurred he was called upon to assist in his installation as the Prov . G . M . M . of Warwickshire .

With regard to the working officers , lie deeply regretted that he had not been able to attend lately at the meetings of that body , but he had not the slightest doubt they were doing their best to promote the interest of Mark Masonry , which he was convinced had a great and glorious future before it . As one of the General Board of the Mark , he could say that they had lately considered

a very serious step in taking what was Bacon ' s Hotel . They must all feel it was a bold step , but they relied upon the body of Mark Masons to assist them if called upon . Owing to the care with which the resources of the Order had been husbanded he thought they might fairly contemplate the possibility of not asking the brethren for very much , or for anything .

Bro . Col . SnADWdLL H . CLERKE , P . G . W ., said he had been permitted , as a former Chairman of that lodge of instruction , the privilege of proposing the next very important , and he was quite sure very popular toast . He was going to ask them to drink the health of the noble brother who had been good enough to be the chairman of the evening . If there ever was a brother who deserved the

thanks of his brother Masons for the services rendered in the short time he had been a Mason , it was the presiding brother—the Earl of Euston . It was but a short time ago —a few years—since he had the opportunity of joining their Order , but it appeared to him ( Bro . Col . Clerke ) that since that time his thoughts had been of Masonry night

and day—his only desire being to know what further good he could do or fuither service render . Their noble brother had taken almost every possible Degree and had been advanced to the highest and most important place in the various Orders . He was already a Piov . Grand Master ot an excellent province , was Grand Superintendent of Royal Arch , held high rank in every branch of Masonry , and hlS
