Bro . Walter Harris , P . M ., who is one of the candidates for the Shrievalty of London , entertained So of his friends at dinner on Wednesday evening in the large saloon of the Guildhall Tavern . The banquet was admirably served ; the Blue Hungarians played in an adjoining room during dinner , and an exceptionally good musical programme was gone through afterwards . The toasts were

Harris's reply was in the best possible taste , and Bros . Alderman Hart

Deputy T . Beard , and many other well-known Freemasons were amongst the guests . The German Shakespeare Society will celebrate the 25 th anniversary of its founda'ion at Weimar on Shakespeare ' s birthday , the 23 rd inst . The annual supper of the Hyde Park Lodge of Instruction will be held at the Porchester Hotel ,

Paddington , on Monday next , when Bro . Holman , VV . M . of the mother lodge , will preside . Bro . G . Read is Treasurer , and Bro . H . Dehane , Secretary . The members of the Huyshe Chapter , No . 1099 , at a regular meeting held on Wednesday , the 3 rd inst ., at their chapter-room , Home Park , Stoke , elected as their officers for the ensuing year Comps . A grand gala , fancy fair , and bazaar will be held under distinguished patronage in Stanley Park , Liverpool , on Whit Monday , the ioth June , and five

following days , in aid of the funds of the Liverpool Stanley Hospital . Mrs . J . Kellett Smith , of 23 , Russell-street , Liverpool , has agreed to take a stall , to be called the "Setton , " and furnish it for the whole of the six days . She is , therefore , desirous of obtaining contributions in money or goods for her stall , and we hope our readers who may be able to do so , will assist her in her cfaritable object .

The Royal Commission on Army and Navy administration held a further sitting , under Bro . the Marquis of Hartington , M . P ., on Tuesday , when Bro . Lord George Hamilton , M . P ., First Lord of the Admiralty , gave evidence .

It is now decided that the 30 th and last meeting of the National Rifle Association shall be held at Wimbledon , the opening day being Monday , July the Sth , while the _ Camp will be available for occupation the Saturday previous . The meeting in future years will be held at Brookwood , near Woking , Surrey . Bro . the Lord Mayor presided at a large and

important gathering in the assembly Hall , Mile End , on Monday , for the purpo-e of promoting the Hospital Saturday Fund . His lordship attended in State , accompanied by the Lady Mayoress , Bro . Alderman Sheriff Gray , and Bro . Sheriff Newton . Resolutions in furtherance of the objects of the meeting were passed , and the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to Bro . Lord Mayor Whitehead .

There will be a banquet held at the Greyhound Hotel , Hampton Court , on VVednesday next , the 17 th inst ., when Messrs . A . de Wette , CC , and A . E . Pocock have kindly consented to occupy the chair and vice-chair respectively , the purpose being to ce ' ebrate the

commencement of Bro . J . B . Mella ' s occupancy as proprietor of this well-known hostelry . We have no doubt that Bro . Mella ' s friends and patrons will gather about him on this occasion in considerable numbers . He deserves support , and we doubt not will receive it from the general public as well as from his more particular customers . By command of the P . G . M . of Cumberland and Westmorland , the half-yearly meeting of the province , also of the annual Prov . G . Chapter , will be held in the County Hall , Carlisle , on Tuesday , the 16 th inst . Bro . Colonel James R . Bramble , F . S . A ., who has just been appointed D . P . G . M . of Bristol , in succession to Bro . W . A . F . Powell , installed as P . G . M ., was initiated

in the Beaufort Lodge , 103 , 5 th August , 1 S 62 , and filled the chair of that lodge in 1865-6 . He was one of the founders and first W . M . of Lodges 1 199 and 1404 . In January , 1 S 67 , he was appointed P . A . G . D . C , and in January , 1 S 6 9 , P . G . Registrar , which office he held for seven years successively , when he was promoted to P . S . G . W . In 18 S 6 he was again appointed to his former office of Registrar , and continued

to hold it until his recent promotion . He is an Arch Mason , having been exalted in the Beaufort Chapter 22 nd October , 1863 , and filled the chair of Z . in 186 S , and , after holding minor offices obtained the position of Prov . G . H . in 1 SS 3 . On the occasion of her Majesty ' s Jubilee Bro . Bramble had the honour of being selected to receive the rank of P . A . G . D . C . in the Grand Lodge of England , and of P . G . S . B . in

the Grand Chapter . Bro . Bramble holds the 32 ' of the Ancient and Accepted Rite , has been D . P . G . M . M . of the Province of Bristol since its formation in 1881 , and is a P . ist Expert in the Great Priory of England , and Prov . Sub-Prior of Bristol and Gloucestershire . He has served as Steward for the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys and for the Mark Benevolent Fund .

ROVAL PRINCESS S THEATRE . —In response to a very generally expressed desire on the part of the public to see Mr . Wilson Barrett in his great successes , previous to his departure to tour in America , Miss Grace Hawthorne has arranged to revive ( for a limited number of

performances only ) the " Silver King , " with all the original scenery and effects , on Monday , the 15 th inst . ; " Good Old Times , " with Mr . Wilson Barrett and Miss Eastlake in the cast , on Friday and Saturday evenings , the 12 th and 13 th inst . The last matinee performance of "Good Old Times " will be to-morrow ( Saturday ) .

GOULD TESTIMONIAL . —The Lodge of Unity , 6 9 , has sent three guineas to this fund , and donations have also been received from Bros . Capt . N . G . Philips . Lieut . Grand Commander , 33 , and Albert Pike , Grand Commar . der , 33 , Washington , U . S . A .

It appears to have been definkivelyarranged that there shall be a Spanish Exhibition in London this summer , and very strenuous efforts are being made in order that it may bs opened to the public about the middle of next month .

Bro . Alderman and ex-Sheriff Davies is one of the candidates for the vacancy in the representation of Rochester , caused by the resignation of Colonel Hughes-Hallett . ... The directors of the New York Yacht Club have appointed a Committee to consider Bro . the Earl of Dunraven's challenge to compete with the Americans for the possession of the America Cup .

It is announced that Bro . Sir H . Drummond Wolff , the British Minister at the Court of Teheran , will accompany the Shah of Persia on his visit to England at the end of next month or beginning of June . The festival dinner , which was to have been held

this week in aid of the funds of the Royal Westminster Ophthalmic Hospital , and at which his Royal Hi g hness the Duke of Cambridge was to have presided as Chairman , has been postponed in consequence of the death of his mother , the Duchess of Cambridge .

Bro . Lord Robartes has kindly undertaken to preside at the dinner which will be held at Willis's Rooms , St . James's , on the 13 th of May , in aid of the Royal Blind Pension Society . PRESENTATION . —Bro . W . Sanders , J . D . of the Pattison Lodge , No . 913 , was rec : ntly presented with a v ^ ry handsome Past Secretary ' s jewel , in the shape of a fivepointed golden star with cross pens and a fine diamond in

the centre . It bears the following inscription— " Presented to Bro . VV . Sanders by the members of the Pattison Charitable Association as a maik of the esteem of the brethren , but more especially for his efforts on behalf of the Masonic Charities , 1885—1 S 89 . " The presentation was made at Bro . Mason ' s hotel , The Mortar , Beresford-square , Woolwich , at the winding up dinner of the Association a few weeks ago .

The annual supper of the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction took place on Tuesday last at the Criterion , Piccadilly , under the chairmanship of Bro . Geo . Reynolds , VV . VI . of the mother lodge , and proved a great success , the bnthren present thoroughly enjoying themselves . A report of the proceedings will appear next week .

A large meeting of the members of the Agricola Lodge took pi ice at the Masonic Hall , Castlegate , York , on Monday night , the 24 th inst ., when Bro . J . H . Taylor , S . W ., was elected as W . M . for the ensuing year . Bro . J . Eccles was re-elected Treasurer ; Bros . J . E . Wilkinson , J . W ., andG . Manton , J . D ., were re-elected Auditors ; and Bio . E . Osbcrne , Tyler .

Terry ' s Theatre will be closed on the evenings of Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday , Thursday , and Friday next , and will re-open for the morning performance on Saturday , the 20 th inst ., when "' Sweet Lavender" will continue its successful career .

We are glad the difference between Bros . Lazarus and Spiegel , both members of the Lodge of Joppa , No . iSS , has been satisfactorily settled , and the latter having tendered an apology by his counsel , we shall doubtless hear nothing further about the case . We should have been better pleased had the difference been settled without recourse being taken to legal proceedings , but as that seems to have been unavoidable , it is satisfactory to know there is an end of the dispute .

A memorial window , from the studios of Mr . Taylor , of Berners-street , has b ; en erected in the Church of St . Mary ' s , Stamford , the gilt of Mr . Groves , in memory of his faiher , as a companion window to one , in memory of his mother , executed by the same aitist . The subject , illustrative of generos ' . ty , is " King David ' s forgiveness of Absalom . "

That floating palace of the P . and O- service the Oceana sailed for Australia on Friday with a large and varied human cargo , and , inasmuch as for every soul departing at least t . vo came to see him off , Gallion's wellknown quay was alive and moving . The Bishop of Ripon ( and quite a bunch of Church dignitaries ) bade a cheery farewell to his Colonial brother ot North Queensland . The

company ' s lawyer , Mr . Peter Williams , of Freshfield ' s well-known firm , went on a month ' s leave to study Spanish jurisprudence . Our great baritone , Charles Santley , en route for Sydney , could scarce tear himself free from the friendly hands of the many musical confreres who had come to see him off , or find time as yet to read the valedictory and well-wishing telegrams that awaited and followed him

on board . A Masonic deputation of light and leading gave the last hand-grip of mysterious meaning to " Brothers " Edward Letchworth and Rudolph Glover , bound for some great function at Tangier , and already confraternisingover the inevitable stirrup cup , with others of the "free and accepted " body charitable . A capital string band and a brave show of pretty girls gave with the sunshine promise of a prosperous voyage . —The World .

A proposal has been made for the amalgamation of the Shepherd and Flock Masonic Club with the City of London Lodge of Instruction . The members of the club , with their wives , held the second annual festival at their head-quarters , Great Swan-alley , last week , During the

evening the W . M ., Bro . VV . R . Haylock , presented to the Preceptor ( Bro . Hickman ) an illuminated address signed by all the members . The presentation was made as a mark of the brethren ' s appreciation of their comrade ' s valuable services to the club during the time he had held office in connection with it .

The third anniversary festival of the Lewis Lodge of Instruction , took place at the Fishmongers ' Arms Hotel , Wood Green , on Friday , the 5 th inst ., and a numerous company of Fieemasons sat down to an excellent dinner served by Bro . Wigmore , the respected host . Bro . J . Prentice , J . W . 11 S 5 , occupied the chair . The evening was parsed in a most enjoyable manner .

Mr . Gloster Armstrong says that Mr . Warren Wright , who has purchased the provincial rights ot The Balloon , is in treaty , through him , with Mr . Charles Green , the balloon manufacturer , for a large passenger balloon , to bd used by the company while on tour—a very novel departure in theatrical advertisement .

The Crystal Palace Bohemian Musical Society woond up their season last night ( Thursday ) , by giving their directois ( Mr . Dalgety Henderson and Mr . Moore ) a complimentary benefit . Sir C . B . Graves-Sawle , Bart ., held his annual mee'ing at Looe , Cornwall , yesterday ( Thursday ) . The

P . G . Lodge was opened at 2 . 30 , when business ot a more than ordinarily interesting nature was transacted . A large number of brethren from the Three Towns availed themselves of this opportunity of visiting this rising and favourite watering place , thus combining pleasure with duty . Dinner was served at the Ship Hotel at 4 o ' clock . A large number of brethren was present .

The Principals and companions of Fidelity Chapter , No . 230 , gave an "at home" at the Ebrington Masonic Hall , Granby-street , Devonport , on Wednesday , the 3 rd inst . The refectory was utilised as a ball room , and was nicely decorated lor the occasion . In the course ot the evening , Comp . R . Cawsey , as the senior P . Z ., presented Comp . E . H . Littleton , P . Z ., with a

Life-Governorship tor ihe Devon Masonic Educational Fund in apprecia ion of his indefatigable efforts as Charity Steward ot the Arch chapter and also of the Craft lodge . Comp . Cawsey referred to Comp . Littleton ' s Masonic zeal and ability , and said the gilt was not only spontaneous , but unanimous on the part of the chapter . Comp . Littleton

suitably acknowledged the gift . The evening was devoted to dancing and some capitally rendered songs , which pleasingly diversified the programme . A most enjoyable evening was spent by all . Good music was provided by Maste-s Harris and Seile . Comps . A . Maddock and Burt officiated as M . C . ' s .

GRAND LODGE OV SCOTLAND . —It has been arranged that the Grand Master Mason of Scotland , Bro . Sir Archibald C . Campball of Blythswood , Bart ., M . P ., will make a grand visitation to the Province of Glasgow on Friday , the 26 th inst ., and instal Bro . John Graham , of Bioadstone , lo be Prov . Grand Master ot Glasgow City . O . i the previous day the Grand Master will visit Falkirk ,

aud in the afternoon instal Bio . 11 . M . Shaw Stewart , of Carnock , as Prov . Grand Master of Stirlingshire ; and on Saturday , the 27 th inst ., the Grand Master will lay the foundation-stone of the New County Buildings at Paisley . On each of these occasions the Grand Master will be accompanied by the Grand Officers and a deputation from the Grand Lodge of Scotland .

i'he celebration of the 700 th anniversary of London ' s mayoralty will , it is no . v thought , take a form that will be ot national importance and a lasting benefit to the community . If Lord and Lady Londonderry should—as is expected—vacate this year their high dignities in Dublin , it is probable that they will be succeeded by the Earl and Cour . trss of Cadogan .

A very interesting and pleasing ceremony took place at the St . John's Lodge ( St . John's Rooms ) , King Cross-street , on W , ednesday , the 3 rd inst ., when the W . M ., Bro . William Nicholl , presented Bro . Robt . Riley , P . M . 40 S , 1730 , P . G . S . B . ot West Yorkshire , with provincial officer ' s dress suit on behalf of several brethren . The VV . M ., in making the presentation , referred to Bro . Riley's

past services to the Craft , abo to the fact of his being the oldest P . M . and one of the founders of tne lodge , and stated that for several yeais he had held the position of Secretary with ability , and he ( the W . M . ) had only lately received a letter from the Prov . G . Secretary congratulating the lodge on the efficient manner in which Bro . Riley had pel formed the duties of Secretary to the lodge . Bro .

Riley , in feeling terms , expressed his surprise at the handsome present , and as . ured the brethien that he would endeavour to carry out the duties which he may be called in the future to perform as he had hitherto done in the past . The directors of the New York Yacht Club have appointed a Committee to consider Bro . the Earl of Dunraven's challenge to compete with the Americans for the possession of the America Cup .

It is announced that Bro . Sir H . Drummond Wolff , the British Minister at the Court of Teheran , will accompany the Shah of Persia on his visit to England at the end of next month or beginning of June . The festival dinner , which was to have been held

this week in aid of the funds of the Royal Westminster Ophthalmic Hospital , and at which his Royal Hi g hness the Duke of Cambridge was to have presided as Chairman , has been postponed in consequence of the death of his mother , the Duchess of Cambridge .

Bro . Lord Robartes has kindly undertaken to preside at the dinner which will be held at Willis's Rooms , St . James's , on the 13 th of May , in aid of the Royal Blind Pension Society . PRESENTATION . —Bro . W . Sanders , J . D . of the Pattison Lodge , No . 913 , was rec : ntly presented with a v ^ ry handsome Past Secretary ' s jewel , in the shape of a fivepointed golden star with cross pens and a fine diamond in

The annual supper of the Covent Garden Lodge of Instruction took place on Tuesday last at the Criterion , Piccadilly , under the chairmanship of Bro . Geo . Reynolds , VV . We are glad the difference between Bros . Lazarus and Spiegel , both members of the Lodge of Joppa , No . iSS , has been satisfactorily settled , and the latter having tendered an apology by his counsel , we shall doubtless hear nothing further about the case . We should have been better pleased had the difference been settled without recourse being taken to legal proceedings , but as that seems to have been unavoidable , it is satisfactory to know there is an end of the dispute .

A memorial window , from the studios of Mr . Taylor , of Berners-street , has b ; en erected in the Church of St . Mary ' s , Stamford , the gilt of Mr . Groves , in memory of his faiher , as a companion window to one , in memory of his mother , executed by the same aitist . A proposal has been made for the amalgamation of the Shepherd and Flock Masonic Club with the City of London Lodge of Instruction . The members of the club , with their wives , held the second annual festival at their head-quarters , Great Swan-alley , last week , During the

Mr . Gloster Armstrong says that Mr . Warren Wright , who has purchased the provincial rights ot The Balloon , is in treaty , through him , with Mr . Charles Green , the balloon manufacturer , for a large passenger balloon , to bd used by the company while on tour—a very novel departure in theatrical advertisement .

The Crystal Palace Bohemian Musical Society woond up their season last night ( Thursday ) , by giving their directois ( Mr . Dalgety Henderson and Mr . Moore ) a complimentary benefit . Sir C . B . Graves-Sawle , Bart ., held his annual mee'ing at Looe , Cornwall , yesterday ( Thursday ) . The
