'lhe minutes of the last regular and of an emergency

meeting were submitted and received confirmation . 'The VV . M . next proceeded to initiate two gentlemen into the Order , a ceremony he rendered in good style . Some subjects of considerable importance to the future of the lodge were discussed at great length , and one was disposed of satisfactorily , and the second held over to be discussed in another form . Throughout the debate the tone of the

brethren was noticeable as being truly Masonic . All business being at length at an end , after the usual wait whilst the room was altered to allow the brethren to sit down to supper , . that meal was heartily enjoyed , and the VV . M . having premised that he was not given to making long speeches , hut spoke what he felt was to the purpose , gave " Loyalty to the Throne and Success to the Best Interests of the Craft . "

Bro . Fenner , I . P . M ., gave in appreciative terms " The Health of the VV . M ., bro . Clark , ' who briefly responded . " The Initiates " were next honoured , Bro . Clark saying that without them lodges would in time die out . 'The Upton Lodge was fortunate in this respect , for at the emergency meeting they had admitted three gentlemen into the Order , and that afternoon had initiated two others ,

all of whom , he felt sure , by the great attention they had paid to the ceremony , were the right sort of stuff to make good Masons out of . Addressing the candidates , Bro . Clark told them when he was initiated he never dreamed it pcssib ' . e he would arrive at the proud position of VV . M . of a lodge , yet he had so succeeded , and they by hard work and nerseverance might aim at doing so , as he had .

Bro . Roberts thanked the W . M . and brethren for so kindly admitting him into the Order , and trusted that he would in time be an ornament to the Craft , and sometime hold the honourable position of W . M ., which remarks the other initiate endorsed . " The Visitors " were in turn honoured , Bro . Clark expressing the pleasure the Upton Lodge at all times felt in

honouring the toast . There was a large number present , although some had left . Of those present , some had visited the lodge before , and he hoped to see them many times . Bro . Ellingford's name was coupled with this toast . Bro . Ellingford begged to be excused making a speech , as the Upton brethren knew he could give them a song , but suggested they called upon Bro . Stephens to respond on behalf of the visitors . This was acceded to .

Bro . Clarke gave what he deemed the toast of the first importance , " The Masonic Charities , " coupled with the name of the distinguised Secretary for the Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons ( Bro . Terry ) , alluding to the eminent services rendered by that brother in consecrating the Upton Lodge some thirteen or fourteen years since . Bro . Clark said 13 ro . Terry being behind the scenes could tell them whether he felt proud of the lodge which he

had started , and whether it had done all it ought to have done for the Charities . He felt that in the past as much had not been done as he should have liked , but he felt a new state of things was inaugurated , and that with thehelp of the brethren , and their kind co-operation , the Upton Lodge should not be behindhand in its support of the Three Institutions , which held so strong a claim upon the sympathies of the Craft . Bro . Terry responded in his usual able and effective

manner . "The Officers" were also honoured , and after being replied to , the Tyler ' s toast was given , and at an early hour the brethren separated , many of them enjoying a ride home to town under a beautiful and cloudless sky .
