Littelton ( brother of Lady Frederick ) were amongst the congregation at St . Paul ' s Cathedral on Sunday morning . Sir Richard Cross , who was the first to inform us of the horrible assassination of the Chief Secretary and the Under-Secretary for Ireland , seemed much affected . Canon Stubbs , who preached in the afternoon , spoke most touchingly and at some length of the tragedy .

Bro . the Very Rev . the Deanof York , P . G . Chap ., will preach at the six o ' clock service at the Wellington Barracks Chapel , on July iGth , and Bro . the Rev . F . I ? . C . Byng , P . G . Chap ., vicar of St . Peter ' s , Cranley-gardens , Chaplain in Ordinary to the Queen , and Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons , will preach at the same service on July 23 rd . Lord Granville Sevres vases ; and the Lodge of Antiquity a silver-gilt candle upholder , model of one presented to the Lodge by Bro . Sir Christopher Wren . Bro . John Bevan , District Grand Master of

Westland , New Zealand , had a large and enthusiastic audience when he delivered his oration on Charles Dickens , on the 4 th inst ., at St . Mark ' s College , on the invitation of Canon Cromwell . The life of the great novelist was rapidly traced , his early struggles and sorrows tenderly touched upon , and his triumphs in the field of literature most powerfully described . His many claims to our

admiration , as being a teacher of good , were manfully and eloquently insisted on , and the eulogium upon his writings was a masterpiece of oratorical skill . T he lecture was illustrated by quotations from Dickens ' s works , and many of his more popular characters , including the immortal " Pickwick , " the two " Wellers , " and even " Mrs . Gamp " herself , were presented to the audience almost in the flesh

tinder the charm of Bro . Bevan ' s novel mode of interpretation . The two hours' discourse never once flagged , and was delivered with most rapid utterance , without a note of any kind . Broadley , who is as good and active in the literary walks of life as he is in Alasonry , is

at present in lunis preparing a " History of the Fourth Punic War , " which , we understand , will shortly be published by Messrs . Blackwood . We have no doubt that the work will be replete with interest , as Bro . Broadley is intimately acquainted not only with Tunis and its inhabitants , but had opportunities of watching the entire course of the French occupation , which will be described in his book .

At the annual meeting of the Hospital for Sick Children , Great Ormond-street , held on Wednesday , the

report stated that during the past year 1050 patients had been admitted , i 3 , iSo out-pacients having received advice and medicine during the same period . Since the hospital was opened in 1 S 52 , 326 , 324 patients had been treated . 'The Convalescent Hospital at Highgate in connection with the institution had received 355 children during the year . Bro . Polydore De Keyser , the newly-elected Alderman of the Ward of Farringdon Without , in succession to Mr . J . Figgins , was born on December 13 th 1832 , at Fermonde , in Belgium . His father was Mr . C . De Keyser , the founder of the Royal Hotel . He has for fifteen years been a member of the Court of Common Council , is a Governor of Bridewell and Bethlehem Hospital and of St . Batholomew ' s Hospital , and a member ot the

Bro . Polydore De Keyser , the newly-elected Alderman of the Ward of Farringdon Without , in succession to Mr . J . Figgins , was born on December 13 th 1832 , at Fermonde , in Belgium .
