After the lodge was closed , a most sumptuous banquet was provided and ably served by the Stewardess of the hall , Mrs . Simpson . The usual toasts were all given and duly honoured .

At supper , "The Healths of the outgoing and incoming Masters , " were drunk with great enthusiasm , the former being congratulated on his most happy and flourishing year of office , and the latter on his prospect of accession to the chair of so powerful and prosperous a lodge .
WEST HARTLEPOOL . — Stranton Lodge ( No . 1 S 62 ) . —The annual installation meeting of the above lodge took place on Wednesday , the 3 rd inst ., at the Masonic Hall . The newly-elected W . M ., Bro . George T . Walker , was installed by Bro . R . W . Simpson , P . M ., P . J . G . D ., in the presence of several eminent visiting brethren . The W . SOUTHWARK LODGE ( No . 879 ) . —A very interesting and pleasant evening was spent on Thursday , the 4 th inst ., at this lodge of instruction , held at the Sir Garnet Wolseley , Rotherhithe Newroad , when some 40 members met to do honour to thrir esteemed Preceptor , Bro . W . Beavis , P . M . and Sec . 879 , and W . M . r 3 io , who recentlv had the distinction of Provincial rank , conferred on him by the Prov . Grand Master of Middlesex . After the ordinary business of the lodge had been transacted ,
Bro . Walter Martin , P . M . 876 , occupied the chair , and alluded to the indefatigable and willing way in which Bro . Beavis had given instruction to the brethren attending the lodge , and how delighted they all were when they heard of the well-deserved honour he had received ; an honour which the brethren of the Sonthwark Lodge appreciate very highly , as it was trie first time that any of its members had attained that distinction , in addressing Bro . Beavis , Bro . Martin explained how unanimous the brethren were in their
desire to mark in some slight manner the high estimation of his invariable courtesy and kindness on all occasions , and they thought they could not do better than present him with the full dress clothing of Prov . Grand Pursuivant of Middlesex , and , in investing him with it on behalf of the subscribers , he assured Bro . Beavis of their earnest desire for his long-continued health and happiness , and their hope that for many years to come he would wear the clothing with kindly thoughts of the esteem and regard
in which he was held by all the brethren of the lodge . Bro . Beavis , who on rising to respond met with quite an ovation , thanked the brethren for their very valuable and appropriate gift , and assured them that he appreciated very highly the kind feelings which had just been expressed towards him . It was always a pleasure to him to be of service to any member of the lodge , and the many happy hours he had spent in it and the invariable kindness he had received at the hands of the brethren would ever
be in his recollection . The handsome gift they had been pleased to bestow upon him that evening he should consider a tie of affection to the lodge he was so proud of , and for which he had worked , with so much pleasure , and he should always wear their gift with pride and gratification . After again expressing his warmest thanks for the kindness of the brethren , Bro . Beavis resumed his seat amidst hearty applause and congratulations .
The apron , which , together with the collar and gauntlets , was enclosed in a handsome leather case , bore the following inscription : — " Presented to Bro . W . Beavis , P M . and Sec . 879 and W . M . 1310 , Provincial Grand Pursuivant of Middlesex , by the members of the Southwark Lodge of Instruction as a token of their esteem and regard , and in recognition of his valuable services as Preceptor . 4 th October , 1888 . "

for initiation , the ceremony was worked in a very satisfactory manner . Bro . McLeod then occupied the chair . Bro . Barrett having answered the questions leading to the Second Degree , the lodge was opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . Barrett was duly passed in a highly satisfactory manner . Lunt , 917 , was unanimously elected a joining member , and returned thanks . Upon the W . M . rising for the second time Bro . Wildbore was elected to occupy the chair at the next meeting ! Bro . SOUTHWARK LODGE ( No . 879 ) . —A very interesting and pleasant evening was spent on Thursday , the 4 th inst ., at this lodge of instruction , held at the Sir Garnet Wolseley , Rotherhithe Newroad , when some 40 members met to do honour to thrir esteemed Preceptor , Bro . W . Beavis , P . M . and Sec . 879 , and W . M . r 3 io , who recentlv had the distinction of Provincial rank , conferred on him by the Prov . Grand Master of Middlesex . After the ordinary business of the lodge had been transacted ,
Bro . Walter Martin , P . M . 876 , occupied the chair , and alluded to the indefatigable and willing way in which Bro . Beavis had given instruction to the brethren attending the lodge , and how delighted they all were when they heard of the well-deserved honour he had received ; an honour which the brethren of the Sonthwark Lodge appreciate very highly , as it was trie first time that any of its members had attained that distinction , in addressing Bro . Beavis , Bro . Martin explained how unanimous the brethren were in their
desire to mark in some slight manner the high estimation of his invariable courtesy and kindness on all occasions , and they thought they could not do better than present him with the full dress clothing of Prov . Grand Pursuivant of Middlesex , and , in investing him with it on behalf of the subscribers , he assured Bro . Beavis of their earnest desire for his long-continued health and happiness , and their hope that for many years to come he would wear the clothing with kindly thoughts of the esteem and regard
in which he was held by all the brethren of the lodge . Bro . Beavis , who on rising to respond met with quite an ovation , thanked the brethren for their very valuable and appropriate gift , and assured them that he appreciated very highly the kind feelings which had just been expressed towards him . It was always a pleasure to him to be of service to any member of the lodge , and the many happy hours he had spent in it and the invariable kindness he had received at the hands of the brethren would ever
be in his recollection . The handsome gift they had been pleased to bestow upon him that evening he should consider a tie of affection to the lodge he was so proud of , and for which he had worked , with so much pleasure , and he should always wear their gift with pride and gratification . After again expressing his warmest thanks for the kindness of the brethren , Bro . Beavis resumed his seat amidst hearty applause and congratulations .
The apron , which , together with the collar and gauntlets , was enclosed in a handsome leather case , bore the following inscription : — " Presented to Bro . W . Beavis , P M . and Sec . 879 and W .
