At a meeting of the Royal York Lodge , No . 7 , held at the Freemasons' Tavern on the 2 nd inst ., Bro . Adlard , after holding office as Treasurer for nearly a quarter of a century , resigned in consequence of failing sight . Much regret was expressed at the loss of Bro . Adlard ' s services as Treasurer , and a testimonial was

unanimously voted to him in recognition of his having so carefully kept the accounts of the lodge . Bro . Adlard has been a P . M . of the lodge for over half a century . Rev . S . A . Griffiths , Vicar Christ Church , St . Giles , W . C , earnestly appeals for donations to provide Christmas gifts for his poor people . Warm clothing greatly needed .

Bro . Alderman Evans will preside at the house dinner of the City Constitutional Club on Wednesday next , the 17 th inst . Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Whitehead will be one of the principal guests at the anniversary dinner on Wednesday next , the 17 th inst , of the Commercial Travellers' Schools .

Bro . the Lord Mayor was to preside on Friday evening , the 12 th inst ., at the Guildhall Tavern , at the annual meeting for the Relief of the Poor of the City of London and parts adjacent . A very successful and pleasant meeting of the Brixton Lodge was held at Brixton Hall on Saturday last , when Bro . H . Baldwin was elected W . M . We hope to

give a report in our next . The installation meeting of the Royal Jubilee Chapter was held on Thursday , the 4 th inst ., when a handsome jewel was presented to Ex . Comp . H . Lovegrove . tour on the Continent instead , returning to England in time to attend his Parliamentary duties . Bros . J . H . Puleston , M . P ., and VV . T . Marriott , Q . C , M . P ., are expected to take part shortly in a meeting to be held in support of the completion of the National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic , Queen-square , Bloomsbury , W . C .

It is anticipated that her Majesty will visit Sand ringham early next year , in order to attend the festivities which will take place on the occasion of Prince Albert Victor ' s attainment of his majority . The young Prince was born on the Sth January , 1864 .

H . R . H . the Duchess of Albany has recently presented to the board of management of the Chelsea Hospital for Women , to be hung in the board room , a fine portrait of her late husband , H . R . H . the Duke of Albany , P . G . W . and P . G . M . Oxfordshire . Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Whitehead will preside on Tuesday evening at an entertainment to be given

at the City Temple , on behalf of the Orphan Working School . The same day he will open a three days' Bazaar at Exeter Hall , in aid of the fund for raising a permanent institution for young men in connection with the Lambeth branch of Young Men ' s Christian Association . Bro . the Lord Mayor , supported by Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Whitehead and Sheriff Phillips , will take

the chair on Wednesday next , at the Mansion House , at the 99 th annual meeting of the Benevolent or Strangers ' Friend Society , of which Bro . Alderman Fowler , M . P ., G . J . W ., is Treasurer . Bro . H . B . Marshall , G . Treas ., has promised to assist on this occasion in advocating the cause of this excellent Charity . The managers of the East London Mission , 263 ,

George's , E ., make an earnest appeal to all benevolent and Christian friends for funds to provide the annual Christmas dinner for destitute children and New Year ' s supper for poorest adults in poverty-stricken districts of Ratcliffe , Shadwell , and St . George ' s . Funds , very urgently needed to lighten depths of poverty in East London , may be sent to the Hon . Superintendent , Mr . G .

Hopkins ( Hall for Free Dinners ) , 263 , Cable-street , St . George ' s , E . Readers of Bro . Hughan ' s new work will have noticed the graceful dedication to our venerable Bro . H . Hopkins . In a review of the work in question in Clarke's Guernsey News , the writer thus refers to it : — " We may

add that to Guernsey Masons of a few years standing the book has a special interest , being fraternally dedicated to their dear friend and brother , Dr . Henry Hopkins , who is described by Bro . Hughan as the instructor of his Masonic youth and the friend of his manhood . Many old brethren here delight to think of the worthy doctor in like manner . "

Bro . J . E . Le Feuvre , of Southampton , the Prov . Grand Secretary of Hants and the Isle of Wight for some years past , has been appointed to the important office of Deputy Prov . Grand Master , vacated by the death of Bro . VV . Hickman . Like that brother and three of his predecessors in the position , Bro . Le Feuvre owns the Royal Gloucester , of Southampton ( 130 ) , as his mother

lodge , his two immediate predecessors—Bros . Hickman and Stebbing—having , like himself , served the office of Prov . Grand Secretary . His appointment , it is believed , will be received with great satisfaction throughout the province , where he is known as an energetic and well-skilled worker in Masonry . The installation of the W . M . of William of

Wykeham Lodge took place on Tuesday at the Masonic Hall , Winchester , when the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . VV . W . B . Beach , M . P ., and Prov . Grand Officers were present , together with a large number of brethren . At the banquet which followed the Prov . Grand Master announced

that he intended to appoint Bro . J . E . Le Feuvre , Prov . Grand Secretary , as Deputy Prov . Grand Master , in succession to the late Bro . Hickman . Bro . Le Feuvre is an old and zealous Mason , and in 1881 he was appointed Prov . Grand Senior Warden , and has held the office of Prov . Grand Secretary io years .

The widow of Bro . Captain Webb , the noted swimmer , and her two children , have arrived in England from America . The Dukeof Abercorn , Grand Master of Ireland , left London for his seat , Baron ' s Court , Ireland , towards the close of last week . Bro . Sir Moses Montefiore has forwarded to each of the clergy in the parishes about Ramsgate a cheque

for £ 20 for distribution amongst the poor . Bro . Lord Brooke , M . P ., P . G . M . Essex , and Lady Brooke visited the Queen at Windsor Castlelon Monday , and had the honour of dining with her Majesty . Bro . the Lord Mayor distributed the prizes won by the pupils of the Peckham Technical School on Wednesday evening , at the Victoria Baths , Martin's-road , Peckham .

The Earl of Carnarvon , Pro Grand Master , and the Countess of Carnarvon , arrived at Windsor Castle on Wednesday evening , and were included in the Royal dinner party . Bro . Alderman Sir H . E . Kni g ht presided on Tuesday afternoon at the half-yearly general meeting at the offices , Sumner-street , of the Southwark and Vauxhall

Water Company . On Tuesday afternoon , Bro . the Lord Mayor , accompanied by the Lady Mayoress , attended in state at St . Jude ' s Church Room , South Kensington , for the purpose of opening Dr . Forrest ' s annual bazaar for the benefit

of ladies in reduced circumstances . Mr . George Kenning , of Great Queen-street and Little Britain , has just issued his " Cosmopolitan Masonic Calendar Diary and Pocket Book" for ISSJ . A most comprehensive book of Masonic reference it is . No member of the Craft should be without it . —Citisen .

Bro . Sir Frederick Leighton , President , distributed the prizes awarded during the past year to the students of the Royal Academy , on Wednesday evening , in the lecture room of the institution , at Burlington House . There was a large attendance , among whom were several academicians and associates .

The Prince of Wales has expressed his willingness to accept a presentation from the borough of King ' s Lynn , in commemoration of the coming of age in January next of his eldest son , Prince Albert Victor of Wales , and the municipality have arranged that the memorial shall be facsimile of the " Lynn " or " King John's " cup , together with an address of congratulation .

Bro . N . B . Headon , 65 , Friday-street , E . C , P . M ., Treas . Great City Lodge , has received a flattering requisition from his friends and neighbours to allow himself to be put in nomination for the vacant seat in the Court of Common Council for the Ward of Farringdon Within , caused by the retirement of Mr . Hilditch . Bro . Headon is a citizen and Liveryman of the Needlemakers ' Company .

Bro . Sheldrick , W . M . of the Blair Lodge , 815 , held at the Hulme Town Hall , requests us to announce the annual Christmas Social Party , which will be held in connection with the lodge , as heretofore , on Friday , January 16 th , 18 S 5 . There will be the usual pleasurable entertainment provided , and Bro . Sheldrick trusts he shall be supported by a good muster of members of the Craft with their ladies .

Bro . the Lord Mayor will preside on the evening of Saturday , the 13 th instant , at the annual prize meeting of the 3 rd London Rifles , when the prizes will be distributed by the Lady Mayoress . On Saturday evening next , the 20 th instant , the prizes of the 2 nd London Rifles will be distributed by her ladyship , Bro . the Lord Mayor and the Sheriffs being present . Both meetings will take place at the Guildhall .

The following dinners took place at the Freemasons' Tavern during the week ending December 13 th : — Monday—St . George's and Corner Stone Lodge , Leigh Lodge , and University Chapter . Tuesday—Club of Nobody's Friends , Waldeck Lodge , Wanderers Lodge , St . James's Union Lodge , Jerusalem Chapter , and Prudent Brethren . Wednesday—Enoch Lodge and Lodge of Fidelity .

Thursday— Metropolitan Dairymen ' s Benevolent Institution , Caledonian Society , Polish National Lodge , and Albion Lodge . Friday—Britannic Lodge , Bedford Lodge , and Eclectic Lodge . Saturday—Phcenix Lodge and Duke of Cornwall Lodge . A meeting of the Lathom Testimonial Portrait Committee was held on Friday , the 5 th inst ., at the

Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool , when the Secretary , Bro . R . Martin , made the gratifying statement that Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , R . W . P . G . M ., had consented to attend on the evening of the ball , the Sth prox ., when the portrait , pained by Mr . J . Haines Williams , will be presented , in the council chamber of the Town Hall . His Worship the Mayor , Bro . Alderman D .

Radcliffe , will preside on the occasion , and it was unanimously resolved that the presentation of the portrait and a very artistically illuminated address should be made by Bro . J . B . Mackenzie , P . P . G . S . W ., who is the Chairman of the Portrait Committee . Subscribers to the fund will be invited to witness the ceremony , and those who attend the ball will also have the privilege of being present .

The Owl Glee Club gave a ladies concert , at the Cannon-street Hotel recently , which was very numerously attended . Bros . Collins , Ashton , James , Thompson , Moss , Bevan , and Hubbard , assisted by Madam Florence Winn , whose voice and singing greatly delighted the large assemblage , and who duly received and submitted to the justly and deserved encores . Master

John Saunders , violin soloist , was again engaged , and met with a very warm reception . The part singing was of the highest description , although some of the brethren were suffering from severe hoarseness , Bro . A . James being compelled to retire from the second part of the programme . Bro . A . Thompson discharging double duty , and met with

a hearty reception . Bro . A . Izard at the piano played selections , and was greatly applauded . Bro . Maddock again rendered great service in the well-seating and atten . tive courtesy to the visitors and subscribers . The entertainment was very good , and the large gathering separated evidently highly satisfied .

Bro . Sir Edward Malet , our Ambassador at Berlin , and representative at the Congo Conference , has had accorded to him full power to treat for the recognition by England of the International African Association . Bro . Lord Egerton of Tatton has presented to Chester Cathedral an antique marble font , specially obtained from India , and has also promised to fill the southern window with stained glass in memory of his father .

We much regret to hear that Bro . Norris , the venerable Warden of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , at Croydon , is in a very critical state of health , and that , having regard to his great age ( 94 in January last ) , there is but little probability of his rallying .

Bros . Alderman De Keyset-, Deputy East , E . J . Baylis , Major T . Davies Sewell , A . J . Altman , J . R . Mallett , G . Shaw , & c ., were among the guests at the dinner at the Guildhall Tavern , on Monday evening , of the Gas and Water Committee of the Corporation of London .

Bro . James Terry , P . Prov . G . S . W . Northamptonshire and Hants , & c , Secretary R . M . B . I ., will rehearse the Ceremonies of Consecration and Installation at the Highgate Lodge of Instruction , No . 13 CC , held at the Boston Hotel , J unction-road , Upper Holloway , on Thursday next , the iSth instant , at 7 p . m .

At the usual monthly meeting of the Lodge of Love and Honour , 75 , Falmouth , Bro . G . II . B . Read . S . W ., was elected VV . M . for the ensuing year , and Bro . VV . F . Newman , P . P . G . S . W ., was re-elected Treasurer . The installation and annual banquet was fixed to take place on Tuesday , the 30 th inst .

Bro . the Lord Mayor will preside at the 99 th Annual Meeting of the Benevolent or Strangers' Friend Society at the Afansion House , on Monday afternoon at 3 o ' clock . Bros . Alderman and Sheriff Whitehead , J . H . Puleston , M . P ., Horace Brooks Marshall , G . Treas ., are announced as speakers on the occasion .

Bro . H . B . Marshall , G . Treasurer , Chairman of the Freemen's Orphan School Committee of London , will lay the memorial stone in connection with the rebuilding of the Freemen ' s Almshouses on Wednesday next , the 17 th instant . After the ceremony , a musical and general entertainment will be given to the alms people and the orphans .

There was a large muster of visitors at the Criterion on Monday evening , when Messrs . Spiers and Pond inaugurated their " Glee Dinner . " Of the dinner little more need be said than that the catering was worthy of this enterprising firm , while the glee-singing , for which the services of an efficient and well-trained choir of men and boys had been obtained , proved a most agreeable accompaniment to the banquet .

Bro . the Lord Mayor presided on Monday evening in the Town Hall , Shoreditch , at the annual distribution of the prizes won by the members of the Tower Hamlets Rifle Brigade . After the report for the year had been read , the Lady Mayoress , who accompanied his lordship , gave away the prizes , and the proceedings terminated with the usual vote of thanks to her ladyship .

Bro . Henry Irving s engagement in New York terminated on Saturday evening last . The performance was that of " The Bells , " and at the close the audience in a body called Bro . Irving before the curtain and gave him a most enthusiastic reception . Bro . Irving announced that he had proposed paying them a fourth and concluding visit in March next .

Bro . Ji . Dresser-Rogers has announced his intention to stand as a candidate for Parliament for the borough of Camberwell , on the passing of the Redistribution Bill . For over 25 years Bro . Rogers has been identified with this parish in all popular movements , particularly in regard to local government and gas and water questions ; and he has been known for many years as an active politician .

ST . LEONARDS I ^ ODGE , NO . 1766 . —The installation of Bro . James Funston as VV . M . of this lodge took place at the Town Hall , Shoreditch , on Wednesday , the 10 th inst ., when a very strong muster of the brethren and visitors attended . The ceremony was most ahlylperformed , and the occasion was remarkable from the fact that the new Master was the first initiate in this lodge . After the

ceremony , about So brethren sat down to a banquet , most creditably provided by Messrs . Bertram and Roberts . The proceedings of the evening were enlivened by some excellent music , under the direction of Bro . Schartau . Bro . VV . Clarke , P . G . P ., responded for "The Masonic Charities , " and Bros . Levy , P . M . S 67 , and Andrew McDowall , P . M . London Rifle Bridage Lodge , P . P . G . D . C . for Berks and

Bucks , for " The Visitors . " W . Bro . Henry Baldwin , Prov . G . S . B . Middx ., W . M . elect 1949 , Sic , has been unanimously re-elected captain of the Commercial Travellers' cricket club for the ensuing season of 1 S 85 . This club has just handed over 50 guineas each to the Commercial Travellers' Schools and Benevolent Institution , being the proceeds of their annual

concert at the Cannon-street Hotel in March last , and their annual grand match played at Catford Bridge in July last ( the ground of which is very kindly lent for the occasion by the private banks . ) The balance sheet shows that this remarkably successful and flourishing cricket club has handed over between those two excellent institutions over 800

guineas . The fifteenth annual dinner of this club took place at the Holborn Restaurant ( Venetian-room ) on Tuesday , 9 th inst ., at 5 p . m . Horace A . Coates , Esq ., President of the club , took the chair , and Bro . H . Baldwin , the captain ; VV . Lincett , Esq ., the vice-captain ; and J . Hook , Esq ., the treasurer ; occupied the vice-chairs .

Sir Frederick Leighton , President , distributed the prizes awarded during the past year to the students of the Royal Academy , on Wednesday evening , in the lecture room of the institution , at Burlington House . There was a large attendance , among whom were several academicians and associates .

The Prince of Wales has expressed his willingness to accept a presentation from the borough of King ' s Lynn , in commemoration of the coming of age in January next of his eldest son , Prince Albert Victor of Wales , and the municipality have arranged that the memorial shall be facsimile of the " Lynn " or " King John's " cup , together with an address of congratulation .

Bro . N . B . Headon , 65 , Friday-street , E . C , P . M ., Treas . Great City Lodge , has received a flattering requisition from his friends and neighbours to allow himself to be put in nomination for the vacant seat in the Court of Common Council for the Ward of Farringdon Within , caused by the retirement of Mr . Hilditch . Bro . Headon is a citizen and Liveryman of the Needlemakers ' Company .

Bro . Sheldrick , W . M . of the Blair Lodge , 815 , held at the Hulme Town Hall , requests us to announce the annual Christmas Social Party , which will be held in connection with the lodge , as heretofore , on Friday , January 16 th , 18 S 5 . Radcliffe , will preside on the occasion , and it was unanimously resolved that the presentation of the portrait and a very artistically illuminated address should be made by Bro . J . B . The Owl Glee Club gave a ladies concert , at the Cannon-street Hotel recently , which was very numerously attended . Bros . Collins , Ashton , James , Thompson , Moss , Bevan , and Hubbard , assisted by Madam Florence Winn , whose voice and singing greatly delighted the large assemblage , and who duly received and submitted to the justly and deserved encores . John Saunders , violin soloist , was again engaged , and met with a very warm reception . The part singing was of the highest description , although some of the brethren were suffering from severe hoarseness , Bro . A . James being compelled to retire from the second part of the programme . Bro . A . Thompson discharging double duty , and met with

a hearty reception . Bro . A . Izard at the piano played selections , and was greatly applauded . Bro . Maddock again rendered great service in the well-seating and atten . tive courtesy to the visitors and subscribers . The entertainment was very good , and the large gathering separated evidently highly satisfied .

Bro . Sir Edward Malet , our Ambassador at Berlin , and representative at the Congo Conference , has had accorded to him full power to treat for the recognition by England of the International African Association . Bro . Lord Egerton of Tatton has presented to Chester Cathedral an antique marble font , specially obtained from India , and has also promised to fill the southern window with stained glass in memory of his father .

We much regret to hear that Bro . Norris , the venerable Warden of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , at Croydon , is in a very critical state of health , and that , having regard to his great age ( 94 in January last ) , there is but little probability of his rallying .

Bros . Alderman De Keyset-, Deputy East , E . J . Baylis , Major T . Davies Sewell , A . J . Altman , J . R . Mallett , G . Shaw , & c ., were among the guests at the dinner at the Guildhall Tavern , on Monday evening , of the Gas and Water Committee of the Corporation of London .

Bro . H . B . Marshall , G . Treasurer , Chairman of the Freemen's Orphan School Committee of London , will lay the memorial stone in connection with the rebuilding of the Freemen ' s Almshouses on Wednesday next , the 17 th instant . After the ceremony , a musical and general entertainment will be given to the alms people and the orphans .

There was a large muster of visitors at the Criterion on Monday evening , when Messrs . Spiers and Pond inaugurated their " Glee Dinner . " Of the dinner little more need be said than that the catering was worthy of this enterprising firm , while the glee-singing , for which the services of an efficient and well-trained choir of men and boys had been obtained , proved a most agreeable accompaniment to the banquet .

Bro . the Lord Mayor presided on Monday evening in the Town Hall , Shoreditch , at the annual distribution of the prizes won by the members of the Tower Hamlets Rifle Brigade . After the report for the year had been read , the Lady Mayoress , who accompanied his lordship , gave away the prizes , and the proceedings terminated with the usual vote of thanks to her ladyship .

Bro . Henry Irving s engagement in New York terminated on Saturday evening last . The performance was that of " The Bells , " and at the close the audience in a body called Bro . Irving before the curtain and gave him a most enthusiastic reception . Bro . Irving announced that he had proposed paying them a fourth and concluding visit in March next .

Bro . Ji . Dresser-Rogers has announced his intention to stand as a candidate for Parliament for the borough of Camberwell , on the passing of the Redistribution Bill . For over 25 years Bro . Rogers has been identified with this parish in all popular movements , particularly in regard to local government and gas and water questions ; and he has been known for many years as an active politician .

ST . LEONARDS I ^ ODGE , NO . 1766 . —The installation of Bro . James Funston as VV . M . of this lodge took place at the Town Hall , Shoreditch , on Wednesday , the 10 th inst ., when a very strong muster of the brethren and visitors attended . The ceremony was most ahlylperformed , and the occasion was remarkable from the fact that the new Master was the first initiate in this lodge . After the

M . elect 1949 , Sic , has been unanimously re-elected captain of the Commercial Travellers' cricket club for the ensuing season of 1 S 85 . This club has just handed over 50 guineas each to the Commercial Travellers' Schools and Benevolent Institution , being the proceeds of their annual

concert at the Cannon-street Hotel in March last , and their annual grand match played at Catford Bridge in July last ( the ground of which is very kindly lent for the occasion by the private banks . ) The balance sheet shows that this remarkably successful and flourishing cricket club has handed over between those two excellent institutions over 800

guineas . The fifteenth annual dinner of this club took place at the Holborn Restaurant ( Venetian-room ) on Tuesday , 9 th inst ., at 5 p . m . Horace A . Coates , Esq ., President of the club , took the chair , and Bro . H . Baldwin , the captain ; VV . Lincett , Esq ., the vice-captain ; and J . Hook , Esq ., the treasurer ; occupied the vice-chairs .
