The lodge was opened in due form , when the minutes of theprevious meeting were read and confirmed . The W . M . then introduced Bro . Stevens to the meeting , and claimed their attention to his lecture , according to notice which had been issued . The lecturer soon gave evidence of an ability | o secure such attention ; and , having opened his subject hy a brief historv of Masonic ritual from what he

considered to be about the date of the commencement of S peculative Freemasonry , he took up the numerous points ° f divergence in verbiage and practice , and kindly explained their causes and effects . That these points were numerous and afforded opportunity for considerable corn-Went , may be inferred from the fact that lapse of time was forgotten alike by the lecturer and his audience , and the

Mcthren were surprised to find that when Bro . Stevens was about only mid-way in the initiation ceremony they had S'ven him their undivided attention for considerably over 'wo hours . It was then arranged that an open discussion ° n some of the points which had been referred to , and the continuation and completion of the lecture , should be deferred to another evening , and Bro . Stevens expressing his

Willingness thereto , it was decided that the evening of '' "day , the 27 th inst ., should be devoted to that purpose , the Meeting to be held at 7 o'clock , instead of at the usual hour M 8 . Bro . Stevens , who had received frequent favourable acknowled gments of satisfaction with his lecture during its Progress , resumed his seat amidst considerable applause . 1 he following brethren were proposed and elected joining members : Bros . Proposed Northern Counties Lodge For London.

PROPOSED NORTHERN COUNTIES LODGE FOR LONDON .

We hear there is a movement on foot to form , in London , a "Yorkshire" Lodge of Freemasons , to include those brethren resident in London who may wish to join such a lodge , and also to admit Yorkshiremen who may be duly qualified and who desire to join the Order . Any brother

in London or in the provinces of West and North-East Yorkshire wishing to further the movement , may address letters to the Editor of this paper , and they will be forwarded to the proper quarter . We also believe that it is intended shortly to issue a circular calling a meeting in London , the day of the meeting of Grand Lodge , on the 4 th of March next , to consider the matter .

It has been suggested that the lodge should be called the Northern Counties Lodge , and to admit brethren from Yorkshire , Durham , and Northumberland , and form a club in connection with thelodgc convenient to Freemasons ' Hall , for the use of brethren attending the Masonic elections and Grand Lodge , and also form a library and museum of Masonic books , curios , & c , but this would mean greater expense than the suggested fees , & c , would warrant .

At the recent meeting on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., of the Royal York Lodge of Perseverance , No . 7 , those who were fortunate enough to be present had the opportunity of witnessing a brief but interesting ceremony , one which must have been intensely gratifying , as wellto the members of the lodge as to the principal personage concerned . Our

readers are no doubt aware , from an announcement which appeared a short time back in these columns , that Bro . F . Adlard , whose connection with the Royal York Lodge of Perseverance has lasted for upwards of half a century , had resolved on laying down the office of Treasurer , to which for very many years past he had been annually re-elected . Of this circumstance his brother members made up their

minds to take advantage , in order to bestow upon him some further mark of their esteem and respect , and , at the meeting in question , this further mark was formally presented in open lodge to Bro . F . Adlard in the form of a handsome gold repeater , bearing the following inscription : " Presented by the Royal York Lodge of Perseverance , No . 7 , to Bro . F . Adlard , P . M ., as a mark of

esteem on his retiring from the office of Treasurer , after faithful service during more than a quarter of a century . 3 rd February , 1 SS 5 . " We heartily congratulate our worthy brother , who has been the recipient of a similar testimonial on more than one previous occasion , on this latest evidence of the love and respect in which he is held by the Royal York of Perseverance , and we trust he may be _ spared yet many years to adorn its meetings and assist its councils .

BRO . JAMES FORBES , P . M . It is with regret we announce the death of Bro . James Forbes , P . M . of the Great Northern Lodge , which sad event occurred on the 6 th inst . The funeral was arranged to take place on Thursday , the 12 th inst ., at Kensal Green Cemetery . Bro . Forbes was initiated in a Scotch lodge , and subsequently took a prominent part in founding the Great Northern Lodge , No . 12 S 7 , the members of which very greatly deplore his loss .

BRO . D . CABLE , SEC . 163 S . Very deep regret has been caused amongst the members of the Craft at Kingston-on-Thames by the death of Bro . D . Cable . The deceased , though but a young Mason , had been so attentive to the instruction of those of longer standing , that he was competent to fill any office in a Craft lodge . His amiable disposition , genial bearing , and uniform

courtesy had endeared him to all his brethren , who sincerely mourn the loss of one who seemed destined to be a bright light in Masonic circles . His illness was but of short duration , inflammation of the lungs supervening upon an attack of fever . His death has robbed the Brownrigg Lodge , No . 1638 , of a most useful and efficient officer , and

a loyal and devoted brother , while the London and Southwestern Railway Company , in whose employ he was engaged , have lost a servant whose abilities { have been well displayed and recognised since he was appointed agent at Norbiton Station . The interment took place on Wednesday at Kingston Cemetery in the presence of a large assembly of the brethren , and of those who had been fellow servants of the deceased .

THE LATE BRO . FRANK SILLIS , S . W , 1 744 . The funeral of the late Bro . F . Sillis took place on Wednesday , the 4 th inst ., the cortege , which consisted of an open car , three mourning coaches , and ten private carriages , leaving the residence of the deceased at 11 a . m . for St . Pancras Church , Euston-road , where the first part of the service was read by Rev . Dr . Oliver , the senior curate ,

there being present a very numerous congregation to witness the sad yet imposing ceremony . The procession then left for Nunhead Cemetery , where were already assembled a large muster of brethren and friends , all anxious to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased .
