The first toast was that of "The Queen and the Craft , " which was drunk with acclamation , Bro . McQueen singing the National Anthem , and the brethren joining in heartily . _

. . . . . The next was that of "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M . of the Order , " with a real good Henley fire , Bro . A . J . Manning singing " God bless the Prince of VVales , " with a full chorus , that shook the room with its sonorous volume . These toasts were followed by those of " The M . W . Pro Grand Master , " and " The R . VV . Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " both of which received their full meed of honour .

Thetoastof " The W . M . " followed , and in giving it Bro . Delo , I . P . M ., said he felt sure the brethren appreciated their Worshipful Master's love for Masonry and his earnest desire for the prosperity of the Henley Lodge . For himself , he was certain that Bro . Reeve would so discharge his duty that at the end of his year of office they would be bound to admit that the prestige of the Henley Lodge had not suffered , but rather had increased under his rule .

The W . M ., in response , said briefly that he certainly should endeavour to come up to the estimate so kindly taken of him by Bro . Delo , especially as he was sure of the hearty support of every brother of the lodge . The next teiast was that of " The Installing Officer , " and Bro . Delo , in response to a hearty reception of it , said he truly felt unable to find words sufficient to thank them

for their gratifying reception of the toast . If his feeble . efforts to install his successor met with their approbation that was his reward . It had always been his ambition to fill the office of Installing Officer , and he must take that opportunity of thanking Bro . Ives , P . M ., for the valuable assistance rendered him in acquiring a perfect knowledge of the ritual .

The toast of " The Past Masters " was coupled with the names of Bros . C . Jolly and B . C . Curtis , the W . M . speaking more especially of the universal pleasure felt by every brother present at Bro . Jolly ' s recovery from his long and dangerous illness , a sentiment that found full corroboration when the veteran rose to respond , the applause which greeted him and his brother Past Masters being loud , and continued for some minutes .

Bro . Jolly , in response , thanked the W . M . and brethren for their continued kindness to him both at the lodge and on the bed of sickness and suffering . The kindly expression of their sympathy , go fully conveyed to him by the various brethren who had visited him during his illness , had been . not only consolatory but gratifying , as it proved to him that whatever might have been his faults in the past , and they were many , the true spirit of Masonry and brotherly love still prevailed , and warmed the hearts of his brethren towards him in his affliction . He was proud to say that from every lodge in the district

he had received the kindest tokens of regard and sympathy , so much so , that the memory of it would never be effaced from his heart . With respect to the Past Masters , he considered it the duty of their representative , whoever it might be , especially upon such occasions as the present , to nominate them as " the backbone of the lodge , " unless a Past Mastc , in responding , or the W . M ., in proposing the toast , made use of

that expression , there was a hiatus—a " missing" word , indeed , that left in the minds of all present a "taste of absence . " He was proud to say that he knew the Past Masters deserved that title , and s ) long as the lodge was in existence , he had no doubt that a succession of "backbones" would be alway ready to bend beneath the heavy responsibility , and discharge their du'y in promoting the peace , ha mjny , and prosperity of the lodge .

Bro . Carter briefly responded , and assured the brethren that nothing should be wanting on his part to do all that Bro . Jolly claim id as the duiies and responsibilities of those who had the honour of being P . M . of the Henley Lodge ,,. . "The Initiates" were toasted and responded to , and then the toast of "The visitors" followed . Bro . Longley , in responding , said , on hehalf of the lodge , he had the honour to represent , he thanked them most heartily for their reception of the toast , for he could

assure them that he very much appreciated the greeting that had been accorded him that day . That was not the first time he had had the pleasure of visiting the Henley Lodge , the first of which visits he should never forget , as it cost him one of the most anxious 20 minutes or so that he had ever passed in his life . The ferryboat that had to convey them across the river from North to South Woolwich had gone , and as Bro Fowling and himself had to get to Darlford that night , and as their train at Woolwich Arsenal Til " i ? 1 wa' 1 for "lem 'bey had to engage a small boat and row across the river , there they were battling the elements for halt an hour , and it was onlv bv the assistance

H ! 'G . A . O . T . U . that they at last got a footing on terra firma . He spoke highly of the woik done by the Installing Officer , and of the careful work of the VV . M ., and tould safely predict that Ihe W . M . ' s year cf office would be a successful one . Then , wilh regard to the Feuilh Degree , it was all the most fastidious palate might require , and so leng as he had an opportunity , so long would he be glad to accept their splendid "ospiiahty and gocd Masonry all through , nor while both were so well done would they ever want for visitors . Bros . Anson , Nichols , Ingle . Ice , Mears , and Killick , also responded to the toast .

The toast of " The Officers " followed , and then Bro . Tijou , P . G . Purst . England , *? sar , J ; clrccd , and was heartily gieetrd , and in nsponse to an unanimous call , gave a length y ar . dbtilliant additss on the Masonic Chaiities , showing the immense strides n'ade , mere especially the Maionic Charity Assctiations at the east-end of the Metropolis in the case of Charity . . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings , which were enhanced by a cornet solo 11 rj „ ' ^ er , on < and an cphlielyde solo by Bro . Alexander , and some good songs by "ros . H . Barwick , Fowler , Anson , and others .
