Master , at the meeting of Masons to be held in June next , to present an address of congratulation to her Majesty , and Bro . i Dunn , Walker , Turner , and Sharp were chosen . All Ma-r"i > : ' business being ended , an adjournment was made for refreshment , which was served in the Pillar Hall of the hotel . After the banquet , the W . M . rose and proposed ,
with appropriate remarks , the usual loyal toasts in snecession , " The Healths of Her Mije-sty the Queen , " "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " and "The Principal Grand Officers , Present and Past . " He then requested the permission of the brethren to make a digression . They had with them on this occasion their ¦ senior Past Master in the person of Bro . Rhodes , who had
filled the ehair of W . M . of their lodge in the year 1838 , and wno , if he lived another year , would celebrate his jubilee as an Installed Master . Bro . Rhodes' face was known to them as an occasional attendant at the lodge . Once a year they scarcely failed to see him , as there was only one installation meeting he had missed since he joined the lodge , and they might claim to have a Past Master
whose experience was unique , he having seen perhaps fifty Masters installed in the chair of his mother lodge . The lodge still treasured the punch-bowl which Bro . Rhodes had presented to the lodge as a memento of his year of office . Bro . Rhodes , P . M ., returned thanks in feeling terms , and said the W . M . had stolen a march upon him . He had just whispered his intention of retiring , as late hours did not
suit a man of over four-score . He mentioned incidents of the night of his initiation , but the brethren present on that occasion had all , he believed , been summoned from this sublunary abode . Bro . Hines , I . P . M ., rose to propose the next toast . There was no occasion for him , he remarked , to mention the reason for which he took the gavel from the hands of
the W . M . It afforded him great pleasure to propose " The Health of the W . M ., " as he was thoroughly deserving of all the praise he or any other member ot the lodge couM shower upon him . Throughout the few months he had occupied the chair he had given many instances of his anxiety to discharge the duties of his high office in an efficient manner , not only as far as the working of his lodge
was concerned , but in ways which only those who had passed the chair could appreciate . That evening they had an instance of it in the presentafion of the banner to the lodge , and he hoped the giver would be spared to contemplate the handsome ornament to their lodge room for many years to come . The W . M . responded briefly , and next proposed "The Health of the Initiate , " which was cordially drunk , and well responded to by Bro . Norman .
In proposing the next toast , " The Health of the Visitors , " the W . M . coupled with it the name of Bro . Westfield , of Royal Victorian Jubilee Lodge , and alluded to the foundation of the Royal Jubilee Lodge in 1 S 10 , and expressed the welcome they desired to give a brother from a lodge founded to commemorate the Jubilee of another British Monarch . Bro . Westfield replied in well chosen and humorous
terms . The W . M . next proposed "The Health of the Past Masters , " which was responded to by Bro . Dunn , I . P . M ., Treas ., who expressed on behalf of himself and his brother Past Masters , the satisfaction they felt at the able manner in which their successor was filling the chair . There was also a matter he wished to mention to the brethren at
the table , as time had not admitted of its being brought forward in lodge , and that was , that the W . M ., the Secretary , Bro . Darch , and himself , had been in consultation as to the summer banquet . There had been several in connection with the lodge , but this year it was hoped by starting the arrangements in good time , they would be able to have a summer outing , not merely a banquet , but a long and enjoyable day in the country , which their wives and
sweethearts would share . There was another item in the year ' s programme which he thought would make the lodge additionally popular with the ladies , and that was , it was proposed , to make their first meeting night after the summer vacation , a ladies' night . The next meeting would take place in October , and every brother would be invited to bring his wife or sweetheart with him to the banquet , and he had no doubt the evening would prove a
very enjoyable one . The Worshipful Master next proposed " The Health of the Officers , " and after the Officers had responded , the Tyler ' s toast brought the evening to a close . Some excellent singing was contributed by Bros . F . J . Williams , Westfield , Osmond , Stokes , Clark , Norton , and Peel . Bro . Fimister officiated at the organ in the lodge , and afterwards accompanied the singers .
