VOLUNTEERTEARBOOE, ALMANAC,&DIARY, 18 87 . The only Work of the kind published for the Auxiliary Forces—New Information every year by gentlemen fully qualified to write on Military Subjects—Contains a most interesting Calendar—First-class Diagrams of the new Enfield-Martini Rifle , one-third of actual size , and description by the Superintendent of the Royal Small Arms Factory —Map of Wimbledon Camp—Diagrams of Trotting- and Galloping at Royal Military Tournaments—Description cf Portsmouth— and many other Articles , Rules , Regulations , & c , & c . " ' The Volunteer Year Book , Almanac and Diary for 1886 , * published by Mrssrs . Iliffe & Son , Fleet-street , London , is an excellent shillingsworth . It contains a large amount of information careful y -written , compiled or selected , of the greatest importance to Volunteers who desire to understand fully matters , legal and military , which affect them . "—Leeds Mercury . "' The Volunteer Year Book , Almanac and Diary for iS 86 , ' first annual issue , aims at being the 'Military Whitaker , ' and is entirely devoted to subjects most use'ul to the Volunteers and Yeomanry . The articles are contributed and revised by gentlemen who are competent by position and training to deal with mill ary subjects , and the calendar is a specialty , containing the anniversaries of battles for every day in the year , space for memoranda of drills to be attended , and points gained by attendance , which , when finished , can remain as a memento . .... I hen comes an exhaustive article on the inventions of Mr . Richard Morris , and tabulated lists of prize-winners at Shoeburyness—a record that was much wanted . An article on the Martini-Henry , sundry Government returns relating to the Volunteers , and some useful diagrams of targets lor class-firing with directions for use , whereby an annual record can be kept , bring this useful little volume to an end . It is a cheap shillingsworth . "—Admiralty and Horse Guards Gazette . "' The editor is to be congratulated on the completeness and apparent accuracy of the information he has brought together in the 26 4 pp . of this new and useful annual . As far as we have been able to trace , there is hardly an iwstituti 11 connected with the Volunteer s , or a subject connected with military organisation and equipment , which does not receive some amount if notice . It contains , also , some capital diagrams for recording ' classfiring - ' and 0 her purposes , while the calendar is at the same time a valuable record of battles . It is surprising that such an annual has not appeared before , but now that it has been issued , we trust the Volunteers will support it loyally . "—The Freemason . "Messrs . Iliffe & Son , 98 , Fleet-street , London , have issued , under the title of 'The Volunteer Year Book , Almanac and Diary , ' a little volume most interesting and useful to all Volunteers . It contains information relating to all branches of the service , and , indeed , will be found most valuable to officers and men alike . The 'Year Book'is the completest work of the kind yet published , and should have a ready sale . The publishers announce their intention of bringing out the volume annuall y . Space will not this week permit of extracts from it being given , but on another occasion it is intended to quote some interesting figures relating to local Volunteers . "—Sheffield Telegraph . *
