ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS .

The regular Council meeting of this Institution was held on Saturday last , presided over by Bro . Stanley J . Attenborough , Vice President and Member of the Board of Management . There were present Bros . R . Eve , Glass , Corbie , Saunders , Gillard , Cumberland , Brett , Adamson , and J . M . McLeod ( Secretary ) . The SECRETARY reported the investment of a further

sum of . £ " 2500 in India Three per Cents ., and a cordial vote of thanks was passed to Bro . Thomas Fenn , Pres . Bd . Gen . Purps ., for again transacting this business without the usual brokerage charges . Also that a legacy of 50 guineas had been paid from the estate of the late Bro . Dr . H . E . Price , of West Brighton . Two candidates for the October election , on the

Report of the Petitions Committee , were placed on the list , one being a first and last chance case from Staffordshire , the other hailing from Suffolk , whilst seven cases were deferred for further information and completion of certificates . On the proposition of Bro . CUMUKKLAND , seconded by Bro . RICHARD EVE , and supported by Bro . CORHLI-

a vote of condolence with the Secretary on the death of his wife was unanimously passed and ordered to be entered upon the minutes . The agreement with the Province of Northumberland for the purchase of a perpetual presentation was produced and sanctioned by the Council . A cordial vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business of the meeting .

ENTERTAINMENT BY BRO . DELEVANTI . A performance of " The Mikado " was given to the boys by Bro . E . P . Delevanti , of 2 i , Edgware-road , Hyde Park , W ., and his pupils on Friday , the Cth instant , in the Assembly Hall of the Institution at Wood Green . Some 250 brethren and their friends availed themselves of the free invitation which had been

given by the Board of Management , and enjoyed a great treat . We can scarcely credit that so excellent a performance could be given by amateurs who for the first time appeared in public . Where there was so much excellence all round , it is difficult to particularise , but the chorus parts were given in faultless style , and the

Alisses Thomas ( daughters of Bro . J . J . Thomas , recently elected on the Board of Management ) were peculiarly happy in their rendering of the important characters of the rivals , Yum-Yum and Katisha . Aliss Kate Noel earned deserved applause for her acting and splendid voice as Pitti-Sing . Mr . Harry Bates , as Pouh-Ba , the "Lord High Commissioner for

Everything , " was extremely funny , and grasped the opportunities of his part with great power , whilst Alessrs . John Hopkins ( The Mikado ) , Fredk . Garratt ( Nanki-l ' oo ) , and F . Bates ( Pish-Tush ) ably sustained their respective parts . Bro . Delevanti was a host in himself as Koko , and fairly " brought down the house "

in more than one instance . Encores were numerous , and the boys—who looked well and were in strong voice—gave lull vent to their lung power , and highly enjoyed the performance . A capital impromptu stage had been improvised , and the beautiful hall was profusely decorated for the occasion . Bro . C . 11 . Fox , of Russell-street , kindly

lent the wigs and costumes , and Messrs . Victor Delevanti and F . B . Wood , Music Master of the Institution , F . C . O ., at the pianos and harmonium , performed admirably . Great credit is due to Bro . Delevanti for his entertainment , and we can only conclude by hoping for a speedy return visit .

The Fourth City Masonic Benevolent Association.

THE FOURTH CITY MASONIC BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION .

The members of this Association dined together at the White Hart Tavern , Abchurch-lane , on the 4 th instant , on the completion of its four years' existence . A very excellent repast was provided by Bro . George Andersonand a pleasant evening spent by the brethren ,

After congratulating the members on the result of the Association which had just been completed , the CHAIRMAN proposed " Success to the Fifth Cit y Masonic Benevolent Association , " which alread y numbers 115 members . of the rise of these useful Associations , having been himself Treasurer of the second one started , Secretary of the First City Masonic Benevolent Association , and President of the remaining four , the amounts collected by them having been ^ 873 , ^ 723 , ^ 1073 , and ^ 1160 respectively .

The Maclean Memorial.

THE MACLEAN MEMORIAL .

The unveiling of the Maclean Memorial , erected by the Logic Club and members of the theatrical profession , took place at Paddington Cemetery on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., in the presence of a representative gathering of Masonry and the stage . The Memorial Committee

included the names of Bros . Henry Irving , J . L . Toole , Wilson Barrett , and Fred . Burgess . The Chairman of the Committee , Bro . G . E . The inscription was as follows : " To the traternal memory of John Maclean , actor , born March 31 st , 1836 . Died March 15 th , 1890 . Erected by the members of the Logic Club of Freemasons and other friends and comrades . He was highly esteemed in the dramatic profession , admired as an accomplished Freemason , and beloved by all with whom he came in contact . "

LAYING FOUNDATION STONE OF A NEW MASONIC HALL AT CAMBRIDGE .

The people of Cambridge are not unaccustomed to congregations , assemblies , and processions , but , from a Alasonic point of view , there has been nothing to equal the function which took place on Friday , the 6 th inst ., upon the occasion of laying the foundation-stone of the new hall which is being built by the Isaac Newton University Lodge , referred to in the last number of the Freemason .
