HULL . —HUMBEK . INSTALLED MASTERS' LODGE . —The usual monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Friday , the 6 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Osborne-street , when Bro . W . Tesseyman , W . M ., was in the chair . The Secretary , Bro . M . C . Peck , P . M ., introduced the interesting paper read by Bro . W . Speth before the Lodge Quatuor Coronati upon the " Foundation of Modern Freemasonry , "

in which reference is made to Hogarth ' s celebrated picture of Night , wherein the Craft is satirised . Bro . Peck , agreeing with the judicious remarks of Bro . Speth upon the engraving , entered at some length upon the subject of Hogarth's connection with the Order , mentioning that he possessed a jewel said to have been designed by him for the Grand Stewards' Lodge , and pointing out that

the frontispiece used for the old Engraved Lists of Lodges was designed by Hogarth's father-in-law , Sir James Thornhill . Bro . Peck exhibited large copies of Hogarth ' s original plates , in which portraits of several'distinguished brethren appear , such as Dr . Desaguliers , the philosopher , Pine , the eminent engraver , & c . j also showing Hogarth ' s curious " Mystery of Masonry brought to light by the Gormogons , "

in which an undoubted Masonic portrait occurs . Bro . Peck also referred generally to other artists of the last century who had selected the Craft as a subject for ridicule , from many of whose productions much interesting information upon old manners and customs may be derived . A general discussion ensued , which was both entertaining and instructive .

Craft GLASGOW . Lodge St . John ( No . 3 . ) . —On Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., a regular meeting of this lodge was held in the hall , Buchanan-street . Bro . J . R . Paton , R . W . M ., presided . Bros . James Taylor , S . VV ., and Hugh S . Cameron , J . W ., occupied their respective places . There was a large attendance of brethren , among whom were Bros . Walker

, P . M ., James M'MhTan , P . M ., Jamieson , and Gordon , of No . 4 . Several candidates were in waiting , and the Three Degrees were conferred on those who were respectively prepared for them . The lodge fortnightly meetings have now been resumed for the winter season .

Clyde Lodge ( No . 408 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , on Friday , the 6 th instant , Bro . J . M'Naught Campbell , R . W . M ., presided , supported by Bros . John Simpson , S . W . j D . Davidson , acting J . W . j and other officebearers . There was a large attendance of brethren . Nine applications for admission to the Order were passed , and of these seven were present and duly admitted . Clydesdale Lodge ( No . 556 ) . —A monster meeting of the above lodge was held on the evening of the 4 th inst . at their hall , Adelphi-terrace , for initiation and harmony . Bro . George C . H . M'Naught presided , while the Senior and Junior Wardens' chairs were occupied by Bros . R . Gardner and W . Phillips respectively . There were

six candidates admitted for initiation , the ceremony being performed by Bro . J . Thompson , assisted by the R . W . M . and the I . P . M ., Bro . John B . M'Naught . In response to a circular from the Prov . Grand Secretary , the office bearers were formed into a Committee , with instructions to make arrangements for the lodge taking part in the procession on the 21 st inst ., when the Prov . G . M . will lay the memorial

stone of the Camlachie Institute . Deputations were then received from Lodges Nos . 275 , 419 , 592 , and headed by their respective R . W . M . 's . A large influx of brethren followed , till the large room was literall y packed . Among those present were Bros . J . Wilson , A . Dickie , Emile Berger , D . Reid , Ferguson , W . Mackie , A . Cochrane , D . Cunningham , and others .

An interesting part of the evening ' s entertainment was the formal handing over of the " Pearce " and Jubilee Cups , won by Bro . George C . H . M'Naught ' s rink in the recent bowling competition . The cups were filled and sent round and duly honoured .

Albert Edward Lodge ( No . 592 ) . —The bi-monthly meetings of this lodge , which extend till next May , were commenced on the 5 th instant with harmony . Bro . William Mackie , R . W . M ., presided , and was supported by Bros . A . Livingstone , S . W ., and Henry Burnham , acting J . W . The business for consideration included the Grand Lodge Annuity Fund scheme and the procession in

Glasgow Province this month . It was resolved to give all possible assistance to the former j and the laying of the memorial-stone of the Camlachie Institute being the first public function Bro . John Graham , Prov . Grand Master , had been called upon to perform , the' R . W . M . expressed the hope that the members would turn out in large numbers .

Gael Lodge ( No . 609 ) . —An emergency meeting of the brethren of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , on Saturday , the 7 th instant , which was presided overby Bro . J . M'Clure , R . W . M . Dr . Alexander M'Gregor , late of Helmsdale , was admitted a member of the lodge . The initiation was performed by Bros . J . M'lnnes and D . Davidson .

M ., was in the chair . The Secretary , Bro . M . C . Peck , P . M ., introduced the interesting paper read by Bro . W . Speth before the Lodge Quatuor Coronati upon the " Foundation of Modern Freemasonry , "

in which reference is made to Hogarth ' s celebrated picture of Night , wherein the Craft is satirised . Bro . Peck , agreeing with the judicious remarks of Bro . Speth upon the engraving , entered at some length upon the subject of Hogarth's connection with the Order , mentioning that he possessed a jewel said to have been designed by him for the Grand Stewards' Lodge , and pointing out that

the frontispiece used for the old Engraved Lists of Lodges was designed by Hogarth's father-in-law , Sir James Thornhill . Bro . Peck exhibited large copies of Hogarth ' s original plates , in which portraits of several'distinguished brethren appear , such as Dr . Desaguliers , the philosopher , Pine , the eminent engraver , & c . j also showing Hogarth ' s curious " Mystery of Masonry brought to light by the Gormogons , "

in which an undoubted Masonic portrait occurs . Bro . Peck also referred generally to other artists of the last century who had selected the Craft as a subject for ridicule , from many of whose productions much interesting information upon old manners and customs may be derived . A general discussion ensued , which was both entertaining and instructive .

, P . M ., James M'MhTan , P . M ., Jamieson , and Gordon , of No . 4 . Several candidates were in waiting , and the Three Degrees were conferred on those who were respectively prepared for them . The lodge fortnightly meetings have now been resumed for the winter season .

Clyde Lodge ( No . 408 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , on Friday , the 6 th instant , Bro . J . M'Naught Campbell , R . W . Nine applications for admission to the Order were passed , and of these seven were present and duly admitted . An interesting part of the evening ' s entertainment was the formal handing over of the " Pearce " and Jubilee Cups , won by Bro . George C . H . M'Naught ' s rink in the recent bowling competition . The cups were filled and sent round and duly honoured .

Albert Edward Lodge ( No . 592 ) . —The bi-monthly meetings of this lodge , which extend till next May , were commenced on the 5 th instant with harmony . Bro . William Mackie , R . W . M ., presided , and was supported by Bros . A . Livingstone , S . W ., and Henry Burnham , acting J . W . The business for consideration included the Grand Lodge Annuity Fund scheme and the procession in

Glasgow Province this month . It was resolved to give all possible assistance to the former j and the laying of the memorial-stone of the Camlachie Institute being the first public function Bro . John Graham , Prov . Grand Master , had been called upon to perform , the' R . W . M . expressed the hope that the members would turn out in large numbers .
