Hemming , S . VV . j G . E . P . Hertslet , J . W . j W . Fisher , P . M ., P . G . S ., Treas . j Major T . C . Walls , P . M ., P . G . S . B ., Sec ; J . Hill , [ . P . M . ; H . Higgins , P . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Bro . Frederick William Mitchell , 1013 , and it being unanimous , he was duly advanced by the Secretary . Apologies for non-attendance were received from Bros . J . T . Briggs , P . M ., P . G . Std . Br . ; W . J . Porter , P . M . ; F . F . Bonney , P . M . ; and others . The lodge was then closed . A banquet followed . Upon the removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full Justice .

Bro . W . Fisher responded on behalf of The Grand Officers , " and Bro . W . Thomas for "The Provincial Grand Officers . " In the course of his remarks , he alluded feelingly to the great loss the province had sustained by the untimely death of the [ ate * Bro . Lieut .-Colonel A . B . Cook , P . G . M . The toast of " The W . M . " having been duly proposed and drunk , " The Health of the Advancee " followed .

The W . M . trusted that the ceremony of advancement had impressed the candidate , and that he would remain a member for many years to come . Bro . Mitchell , in reply , expressed his thanks to his proposer , Bro . G . Hertslet , and stated that he had been greatly interested in the work . He was desirous of progressing in Mark Masonry , and he hoped that with the kind assistance ot the members of the Sir Francis Burdett Lodge , in due time that ambition would be gratified . The toast of " The Past Masters " came next in due course , and was coupled with the names of Bros . Hill , Higgins , Kohler , Forge , and Davis .

These brethren having replied in exhaustive terms , " The Health of the Treasurer and Secretary"' was given in laudatory terms by the W . M ., and to which toast Bro . W . Fisher modestly replied . "The Health of the Officers , " coupled with the . names of Bros . Hemming and Hertslet , terminated the proceedings .

St . Aubyn Council . At the last meeting of this very flourishing council—the premier one of this beautiful degree in the United Kingdom—the 111 . Sov . Sir Knight A . Booth conferred the Degree upon two candidates in an impressive manner . After the regular business was finished SirKnigbt Booth announced that he had requested Past 111 . Sov . Sir Knight Shanks to tell them something about Constantine the Great and the city bearing the name of the founder of their Order , also that Sir Knight Shanks had kindlv complied .

and had come up from Bodmin for the purpose . Approval having been expressed by the knights , thev then had the pleasure of listening to a most interesting and instructive lecture on Constantine and Constantinople from the earliest times to the present , ably given by Sir Knight Major Shanks , K . M ., F . R . G . S ., and illustrated by a large number of beautiful views from his collection of lantern slides , the lantern being lent and worked by Sir Knight Farr . Sir Knight Major Shanks also exhibited a valuable oil painting of ss . Constantine and Helena which he secured at the capture of Sevastopol . The large number of knights present paid the utmost attention to the lecture , and

seemed to appreciate the entertainment fully . This Order having been founded by Constantine the Great as a check on the turbulent nobles of the empire , everything connected with his history and that of the wonderful city of his creation has a strong attraction for all its members . At the close of the proceedings Sir Knight Major Shanks received a most cordial and unanimous vote of thanks from the members for the pleasure he had afforded them . This lecture was quite a new departure in this branch of Freemasonry , and it is to be hoped that another ( on similar lines ) may be given ere long .

George Graveley , who responded in happy terms .

" The Health of the Officers " was coupled with the names of Comps . the Rev . R . C . Fillingham , M . A ., and Basil Stewart , who respectively acknowledged the compliment . The proceedings then terminated .

Bro . W . Fisher responded on behalf of The Grand Officers , " and Bro . W . Thomas for "The Provincial Grand Officers . " In the course of his remarks , he alluded feelingly to the great loss the province had sustained by the untimely death of the [ ate * Bro . Lieut .-Colonel A . B . Cook , P . G . M . The toast of " The W . M . " having been duly proposed and drunk , " The Health of the Advancee " followed .

The W . M . trusted that the ceremony of advancement had impressed the candidate , and that he would remain a member for many years to come . Bro . Mitchell , in reply , expressed his thanks to his proposer , Bro . G . Hertslet , and stated that he had been greatly interested in the work . He was desirous of progressing in Mark Masonry , and he hoped that with the kind assistance ot the members of the Sir Francis Burdett Lodge , in due time that ambition would be gratified . The toast of " The Past Masters " came next in due course , and was coupled with the names of Bros . Hill , Higgins , Kohler , Forge , and Davis .

These brethren having replied in exhaustive terms , " The Health of the Treasurer and Secretary"' was given in laudatory terms by the W . M ., and to which toast Bro . W . Fisher modestly replied . "The Health of the Officers , " coupled with the . names of Bros . Hemming and Hertslet , terminated the proceedings .

St . Aubyn Council . At the last meeting of this very flourishing council—the premier one of this beautiful degree in the United Kingdom—the 111 . Sov . Sir Knight A . Booth conferred the Degree upon two candidates in an impressive manner . After the regular business was finished SirKnigbt Booth announced that he had requested Past 111 . Sov . Sir Knight Shanks to tell them something about Constantine the Great and the city bearing the name of the founder of their Order , also that Sir Knight Shanks had kindlv complied .

and had come up from Bodmin for the purpose . Approval having been expressed by the knights , thev then had the pleasure of listening to a most interesting and instructive lecture on Constantine and Constantinople from the earliest times to the present , ably given by Sir Knight Major Shanks , K . M ., F . R . G . S ., and illustrated by a large number of beautiful views from his collection of lantern slides , the lantern being lent and worked by Sir Knight Farr . Sir Knight Major Shanks also exhibited a valuable oil painting of ss . Constantine and Helena which he secured at the capture of Sevastopol . The large number of knights present paid the utmost attention to the lecture , and

seemed to appreciate the entertainment fully . This Order having been founded by Constantine the Great as a check on the turbulent nobles of the empire , everything connected with his history and that of the wonderful city of his creation has a strong attraction for all its members . At the close of the proceedings Sir Knight Major Shanks received a most cordial and unanimous vote of thanks from the members for the pleasure he had afforded them . This lecture was quite a new departure in this branch of Freemasonry , and it is to be hoped that another ( on similar lines ) may be given ere long .

Simcox , whose zeal in the cause of Freemasonry generally , and the Mark Degree in particular , is well known . The toast of "The Past Thrice Illustrious Masters " was coupled with the name of Comp . George Graveley , who responded in happy terms .

" The Health of the Officers " was coupled with the names of Comps . the Rev . R . C . Fillingham , M . A ., and Basil Stewart , who respectively acknowledged the compliment . The proceedings then terminated .
