Bro . HEDGES , Secretary , read the minutes of the last Court , in which it was recorded that the Earl of Dartmouth , Prov . C Master for Staffordshire , would take the chair at the 112 th Anniversary Festival of the Institution on Wednesday , May gth , 1900 . The minutes having been confirmed , Bro . HEDGES reported the conveyance of the freehold property of the Institution to the new trustees , which had been carried through by Bro . Frank Richardson . It arose out of the appointment of the new trustees , Lord Leigh , Prov . G . Master for Warwickshire , being the sole survivor of the old trustees .

Bro . A . C . SPAULL , P . G . Std . Br ., then rose and said he had the pleasure of proposing a vote of thanks to Bro . Frank Richardson for his services in this respect . The brethren all knew the interest Bro . Richardson took in the Institution , and that he always did anything he could for it which could conduce towards its benefit . On this occasion he had rendered great service in preparing and getting executed the deed of conveyance transferring the property of the

new trustees , and he moved " A hearty vote of thanks to him for his services . " Bro . Sir J . B . MONCKTON , P . G . W ., in seconding the motion , said no one who had not been through the mill could be aware of the trouble such services as those rendered by Bro . Richardson entailed , and he thought Bro . Richardson was entitled to the brethren ' s warmest thanks for what he had done . ( Cheers . ) The motion was carried unanimously .

Bro . F RANK R ICHARDSOX , P . G . D ., in acknowledging the vote , said he thanked the brethren very much indeed for their kind vote of thanks , and he could only assure the brethren that in this as in all other work ior the Institution it had given him great pleasure to carry out the work . ( Hear , hear . ) Bro . A . C . SPAULL , P . G . Std . Br ., proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Thomas Fenn , P . G . W ., for transferring the stock in the same circumstances . The

Although the proposal of the vote did not appear on the agenda of the Court , he proposed this vote . Bro . C . E . KEYSER , P . G . D ., seconded .

which he received hearty congratulations . Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M ., handed in three propositions for initiation at the meeting in December . A notice of motion was given that the sum of 20 guineas be taken from the lodge funds to form the nucleus of a fund to present Bro . J . Loader , P . M ., with a testimonial for eminent services rendered to the lodge during the past 20 years as its Secretary . Subscriptions were invited from the brethren not to exceed half a guinea each . The business of the lodge ended , it was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a recherchebanquet , supplied by Mrs . Venables in her usual excellent style .

The cloth removed , the VV . M . gave the toast ot" The Queen and the Craft , " and remarked that among the millions of inhabitants over whom she reigned , and the sun never set , there were none more loyal than the members of the Masonic Order . The toast of " H . R . H . the M . W . G . M ., " was also given in loyal terms . The toast of "The Pro G . M ., Earl Amherst ; the Dep . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Officers of Grand Lodge , Present and Past , " received at the hands of the W . M . its meed of praise , and he also remarked the honour conferred on the lodge by the presence of Bro . Alderman Vaughan Morgan , P . G . Treas . England .

Bro . Walter Jeffery , I . P . M ., on rising , stated it was his very great privilege to propose the toast of "The W . M ., " and from the ability he had already shown he was confident Bro . Potter would prove himself one of the best Masters in the lodge , that the year would prove a great success , and at the close the brethren would confess the same , and that it had also been one of the happiest years in the Rose Lodge . The toast was most enthusiastically drunk . Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M ., on rising , received quite an ovation , and in a highly intellectual and very exhaustive speech said he heartily thanked the I . P . M . for his very

kind remarks in proposing and the brethren for so cordially drinking to the toast of the W . M . It was with pride and feelings of great anticipation that he had succeeded to the proud position , and he felt that he had the hearty good wishes of every brother in the -Rose Lodge . It was a fitting opportunity for thanking every brother who had helped him in every way . With great pleasure and thankfulness did he look back to years that night , having been proposed by his life-long friend Bro . Goddard Clarke , and now his esteemed brother-in-law , also of Bro . Isaac Dunn , P . M ., his old

schoolfellow , by whom he was initiated , and who had always been a true and faithful friend , and , above all , to one of his fondest friends , Bro . John Loader , P . M ., the worthy Secretary , who had worked like a trojan in bringing the installation meeting to such a successful issue . Freemasonry was not a religion , but its principles taught us to recognise , above all , the Great Architect of the Universe , to be good and true , to walk hun-jly and uprightly in this life , and to expand the heart by the broad principles of true benevolence . That alone would make all happy and true , and should be

Some short time ago it had been his privilege to visit a Freemasons' lodge in France , but what was his surprise and grief to lind the volume of the Sacred Law excluded , and no supplicating prayer .

THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER . the asp iration of every Mason . Some short time ago it had been his privilege to visit a Freemasons' lodge in France , but what was his surprise and grief to lind the volume of the Sacred Law excluded , and no supplicating prayer . The whole proceedings to him were dead and devoid of that which was the very essence of life .
