ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .
The Quarterly Court of Subscribers to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls was held on Thursday , at Freemasons' Tavern , Bro . Henry Smith , P . G . D ., P . Prov . Dep . G . Master for West Yorkshire , in the chair . On the dais , supporting the Chairman , were Bros . A . C . Spaull , Frank Richardson , C . E . Keyser , Sir J . B . Monckton , E . Letchworth , and Major J . Woodall Woodall . There was a large number of other brethren present .
Bro . HEDGES , Secretary , read the minutes of the last Court , in which it was recorded that the Earl of Dartmouth , Prov . C Master for Staffordshire , would take the chair at the 112 th Anniversary Festival of the Institution on Wednesday , May gth , 1900 . The minutes having been confirmed , Bro . HEDGES reported the conveyance of the freehold property of the Institution to the new trustees , which had been carried through by Bro . Frank Richardson . It arose out of the appointment of the new trustees , Lord Leigh , Prov . G . Master for Warwickshire , being the sole survivor of the old trustees .
Bro . A . C . SPAULL , P . G . Std . Br ., then rose and said he had the pleasure of proposing a vote of thanks to Bro . Frank Richardson for his services in this respect . The brethren all knew the interest Bro . Richardson took in the Institution , and that he always did anything he could for it which could conduce towards its benefit . On this occasion he had rendered great service in preparing and getting executed the deed of conveyance transferring the property of the
new trustees , and he moved " A hearty vote of thanks to him for his services . " Bro . Sir J . B . MONCKTON , P . G . W ., in seconding the motion , said no one who had not been through the mill could be aware of the trouble such services as those rendered by Bro . Richardson entailed , and he thought Bro . Richardson was entitled to the brethren ' s warmest thanks for what he had done . ( Cheers . ) The motion was carried unanimously .
Bro . F RANK R ICHARDSOX , P . G . D ., in acknowledging the vote , said he thanked the brethren very much indeed for their kind vote of thanks , and he could only assure the brethren that in this as in all other work ior the Institution it had given him great pleasure to carry out the work . ( Hear , hear . ) Bro . A . C . SPAULL , P . G . Std . Br ., proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Thomas Fenn , P . G . W ., for transferring the stock in the same circumstances . The
General Committee had already passed such a vote , but he thought it would be only a gracious act that this General Court confirmed it by passing a like vote in public meeting . What Bro . Fenn had done in his capacity as stockbroker had bsen done without any charge to the Institution . Although the proposal of the vote did not appear on the agenda of the Court , he proposed this vote . Bro . C . E . KEYSER , P . G . D ., seconded .
The motion was carried ; but Bro . Fenn was not present to acknowledge it . Scrutineers of votes having been appointed , the brethren proceeded to elect 16 girls to the School out of a list of 33 approved candidates . The following were the unsuccessful candidates :

Connery , and Mr . Herbert Reeves , which proved unanimous , and Mr . 'lhos . Connery was initiated in a perfect manner by theW . M . The Auditors presented their report , which showed the lodge to be in an excellent financial position , having a large balance in the hands of the Treasurer . Bro . Alderman Vaughan Morgan , P . G . Treas ., was saluted . Bro . Saml . J . Derham , P . M ., D . of C , next presented
Bro . Hy . Potter , S . W ., W . M . elect , to Bro . Wal Jeffery , W . M ., to receive from him the benefits of installation , which ceremony was performed in a large Board of 38 Installed Masters in a masterly manner . The new W . which he received hearty congratulations . Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M ., handed in three propositions for initiation at the meeting in December . A notice of motion was given that the sum of 20 guineas be taken from the lodge funds to form the nucleus of a fund to present Bro . J . Loader , P . M ., with a testimonial for eminent services rendered to the lodge during the past 20 years as its Secretary . Subscriptions were invited from the brethren not to exceed half a guinea each . The business of the lodge ended , it was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a recherchebanquet , supplied by Mrs . Venables in her usual excellent style .
The cloth removed , the VV . M . gave the toast ot" The Queen and the Craft , " and remarked that among the millions of inhabitants over whom she reigned , and the sun never set , there were none more loyal than the members of the Masonic Order . The toast of " H . R . H . the M . W . G . M ., " was also given in loyal terms . The toast of "The Pro G . M ., Earl Amherst ; the Dep . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Officers of Grand Lodge , Present and Past , " received at the hands of the W . M . its meed of praise , and he also remarked the honour conferred on the lodge by the presence of Bro . Alderman Vaughan Morgan , P . G . Treas . England .
Bro . Walter Jeffery , I . P . M ., on rising , stated it was his very great privilege to propose the toast of "The W . M ., " and from the ability he had already shown he was confident Bro . Potter would prove himself one of the best Masters in the lodge , that the year would prove a great success , and at the close the brethren would confess the same , and that it had also been one of the happiest years in the Rose Lodge . The toast was most enthusiastically drunk . Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M ., on rising , received quite an ovation , and in a highly intellectual and very exhaustive speech said he heartily thanked the I . P . M . for his very
kind remarks in proposing and the brethren for so cordially drinking to the toast of the W . M . It was with pride and feelings of great anticipation that he had succeeded to the proud position , and he felt that he had the hearty good wishes of every brother in the -Rose Lodge . It was a fitting opportunity for thanking every brother who had helped him in every way . With great pleasure and thankfulness did he look back to years that night , having been proposed by his life-long friend Bro . Goddard Clarke , and now his esteemed brother-in-law , also of Bro . Isaac Dunn , P . M ., his old
schoolfellow , by whom he was initiated , and who had always been a true and faithful friend , and , above all , to one of his fondest friends , Bro . John Loader , P . M ., the worthy Secretary , who had worked like a trojan in bringing the installation meeting to such a successful issue . Freemasonry was not a religion , but its principles taught us to recognise , above all , the Great Architect of the Universe , to be good and true , to walk hun-jly and uprightly in this life , and to expand the heart by the broad principles of true benevolence . That alone would make all happy and true , and should be

which he received hearty congratulations . Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M ., handed in three propositions for initiation at the meeting in December . A notice of motion was given that the sum of 20 guineas be taken from the lodge funds to form the nucleus of a fund to present Bro . J . Loader , P . M ., with a testimonial for eminent services rendered to the lodge during the past 20 years as its Secretary . Subscriptions were invited from the brethren not to exceed half a guinea each . The business of the lodge ended , it was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a recherchebanquet , supplied by Mrs . Venables in her usual excellent style .
The cloth removed , the VV . M . gave the toast ot" The Queen and the Craft , " and remarked that among the millions of inhabitants over whom she reigned , and the sun never set , there were none more loyal than the members of the Masonic Order . The toast of " H . R . H . the M . W . G . M ., " was also given in loyal terms . The toast of "The Pro G . M ., Earl Amherst ; the Dep . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick ; and the rest of the Officers of Grand Lodge , Present and Past , " received at the hands of the W . M . its meed of praise , and he also remarked the honour conferred on the lodge by the presence of Bro . Alderman Vaughan Morgan , P . G . Treas . England .
Bro . Walter Jeffery , I . P . M ., on rising , stated it was his very great privilege to propose the toast of "The W . M ., " and from the ability he had already shown he was confident Bro . Potter would prove himself one of the best Masters in the lodge , that the year would prove a great success , and at the close the brethren would confess the same , and that it had also been one of the happiest years in the Rose Lodge . The toast was most enthusiastically drunk . Bro . Hy . Potter , W . M ., on rising , received quite an ovation , and in a highly intellectual and very exhaustive speech said he heartily thanked the I . P . M . for his very
kind remarks in proposing and the brethren for so cordially drinking to the toast of the W . M . It was with pride and feelings of great anticipation that he had succeeded to the proud position , and he felt that he had the hearty good wishes of every brother in the -Rose Lodge . It was a fitting opportunity for thanking every brother who had helped him in every way . With great pleasure and thankfulness did he look back to years that night , having been proposed by his life-long friend Bro . Goddard Clarke , and now his esteemed brother-in-law , also of Bro . Isaac Dunn , P . M ., his old
schoolfellow , by whom he was initiated , and who had always been a true and faithful friend , and , above all , to one of his fondest friends , Bro . John Loader , P . M ., the worthy Secretary , who had worked like a trojan in bringing the installation meeting to such a successful issue . Freemasonry was not a religion , but its principles taught us to recognise , above all , the Great Architect of the Universe , to be good and true , to walk hun-jly and uprightly in this life , and to expand the heart by the broad principles of true benevolence .
