Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Rees , had alsvays received the assistance of the Past Masters , and he had no doubt the same svould be extended to Bro . Palmer , should he require it . As there svere several Past Masters present svho svere better able to do justice to the toast than himself , he svould conclude by thanking them heartily for its cordial reception . Bro . Coupland , svho svas forced by repeated calls to

respond , and svho ss'as accorded a most enthusiastic reception , expressed the pleasure it afforded him to see such an assemblage present as they had that night—an assemblage that comprised not only the members of the lodge , but those svho took an earnest and profound interest in its svelfare . He felt sure those svho svitnessed thc ceremony of initiation had not been disappointed in its excellent and

perfect delineation ; while those svho knesv of the precarious health at times' of the VV . M . svere delighted to see him present and svell enough to carry out the duties in the able and excellent manner he had done . It svas a matter of great congratulation to him , seeing the number of years he had been a Past Master of the lodge , to svitness the admirable manner in svhich the young members of the lodge

in office carried out their duties ; and he could assure them that it svas not so much the work of the Past Masters that gave renosvn to a lodge , and made it knosvn and honoured , as the fact that the rising officers svere energetic in their svork , and conscientious in their duties . He would also forcibly impress upon the brethren the duty of studying the first principles of Freemasonry

in their bearing to one another , to be kind , courteous , forbearing , and considerate in their dealings svith one another ; not thoughtless or lightly finding fault , but , svhere possible , throsving as it svere a veil over the failing of a brother , and leading him by precept and example if he svere an erring one , to a higher and nobler path of duty , and to do this not only because it svas more noble to heal than to inflict ,

but because upon the perfect carrying out of these principles depended the very existence of true Masonry . They did not attend the lodge for the express purpose of personal enjoyment , but to further the cause of Charity and brotherly love , by admitting svithin their ranks good , true , and trusty men , honourable in their life , and earnest in their actions ; and so he felt proud of having tsvo such excellent candidates

among them that night , but there svas one thing it svould be necessary for young Masons to guard against , even in the very pride they might naturally feel at belonging to such an exalted Order , and that svas a too frequent desire to let the svorld at large knosv they svere Masons . He svould instance svhat he meant by telling them that during the past season , svhile asvay on his holiday , he met a young

gentleman svho svas so enthusiastic over his recent admission to the Craft in a London lodge , that he never seemed so happy as svhen letting the svorld at large knosv it . He ( Bro . Coupland ) , svas exceedingly sorry to see it , because othersvisc the youngster svas a perfect gentleman . After a fesv dnys he made an acquaintance svith Bro . Coupland , and at last put to him the question " Are you a Freemason ? "

" Yes , " said I , " I am a very old one . " " Ah , " said the young man , " I thought you svere , but you did not shosv it . " That , he could not help impressing upon young Masons was the proper way ; do not publish your Masonry , be found out ; don ' t go letting the svorld at large knosv you are a Mason by your publishing it broadcast , but do it in such a manner as to let the svorld know svhere ever a man

is found svho is just , virtuous , upright in his actions , courteous in his demeanour , and Charitable in his life , there stands revealed the true Freemason that our princip les require and delineate . After congratulating the W . M . upon his really faultless svorking , he resumed his seat amid continued applause .

Bros . Cook , Lloyd , Mason , and Hayes also responded . The other toasts svere " The Initiates ; " " The Visitors ; " "The Officers ; " and Tyler's toast .
