to their care . That was shown by the steps now being taken to enlarge the scope of operations by building a new school capable of taking a larger number of boys , and conferring upon them greater advantages , especially in the matter of technical education , and for the development of their physical powers . He was glad to learn that these steps met with the approval of
the brethren of that most northern province , and that they agreed it was a wise movement conceived in the best interests of the boys . He understood he would have a further opportunity in another place to enter more closely into details connected with the Institution , and would , therefore , now thank them for the fraternal spirit in which thev had received him .
The PROV . G . MASTER announced that the Union Lodge , No . 310 , under whose banner they were that day assembled , was celebrating their centenary , a warrant for which had been granted by the M . W . Grand Master . He called upon Bro . W . F . Lamonby to address Provincial Grand Lodge on the interesting occasion . Bro . LAMONBY , while thanking the Prov . Grand Master for the honour done him , expressed his surprise at the incident , because he had come to
the meeting entirely unprepared for such an important duty . Had he been apprised beforehand he should willingly have prepared a paper on the interesting event thev were celebrating that day . It must therefore suffice if he said that the Union Lodge originally worked under a warrant issued by the Grand Lodgeof Scotland in 1784 , which was , 12 years later , replaced by a warrant from the Grand Lodge of England ( " Moderns " ) , under which the Iodge had been worked uninterruptedly ever since . He
knew that the old minutes of the lodge contained some most interesting and valuable details of its working , and if the W . M . and Wardens would agree to loan him their books , he should be only too happy to prepare a history of the lodge . Bro . RITSON , W . M . of Union Lodge , while thanking Bro . Lamonby for his kind offer , explained that two members of the Iodge were already preparing a sketch of its history . As soon as it was printed copies should be distributed throughout the province .
There being no other business , the Provincial Grand Lodge was duly closed .
A procession was then formed , headed by the Depot Bind of the Border Regiment , and marched to St . Paul ' s Church , where an eloquent sermon was preached by Bro . the Rev . J . WHITESIDE , P . P . G . Chaplain , and the usual offertory made . Subsequently banquet was partaken of at the County Hotel , under the presidency of the Prov . Grand Master .
