Fifth Annual Supper Of The Blackheath Lodge Of Instruction No. 1320.

The PRESIDENT next proposed " Success to the Blackheath Lodge of Instruction , " which during its short existence of five years had done so much good through its excellent ollicers . In fact under so able a Preceptor as Bros . Wm . Dawson , P . M . ; J . Hooper , P . M ., Deputy Preceptor ; T . R . Cass , P . M ., Treas . ; C . H . Stone , P . M ., Sec ; and E . A . Rice , Asst . Sec ; the lodge could not but succeed . Its meetings were held on Monday evening at S p . m . at the Stirling

Castle , Church-street , Camberwell , and he could assure thebrethren that they were always heartily welcomed , and whatever instruction was needed it was most cheerfully imparted . The best proof of the excellence of the work was the perfect manner in which the officers of the mother lodge had executed their respective duties . He had never witnessed a more enthusiastic set of officers and trusted the lodge would retain their services for many years to come .

Bro . J . HOOPER , in reply , regretted the absence of Bro . W . Dawson , Preceptor , who was travelling in America upon business and to whom he paid a very high tribute . For his own part he was certainly proud to have been connected with the Iodge since its inception and his services were ever ready to promote its success . On behalf of himself and Bro . Dawson he heartily thanked the brethren . Bro . R . Cass , Treas ., thanked the President for so ver y kindly proposing the toast , and the brethren for their generous reception of the same . He was

proud to be its Treasurer , as the funds passing through his hands were mostly applied in the cause of their Charitable Institutions . Ever since the commencement of the lodge it had been the endeavour to imparl Masonic knowledge to the best of their ability , and so long as he worked with such a vigilant Secretary as Bro . C . H . Stone , who received all monies , and the brethren reposed confidence in him as their Treasurer , he would undertake that the funds should be expended judiciously , and his services would be as cheerfully rendered in the future as in the past .

Bro . C . H . Stone , P . M ., Sec , thanked the brethren for again electing him Secretary . Monday evenings were amongst the happiest in the week spent in the lodge of instruction , where such a happy family met for mutual improvement . He was ably assisted by Bro . E . A . Rice , Asst . Sec , who was most enthusiastic in the founding of the lodge , and was still as zealous for its success . One important feature in the success of the lodge , he ( Bro . Stone ) adduced , was the kindly feeling which existed with sister lodges of instruction at the Earl of Lathom and the

Rose , and so long as that kindly spirit to each other was evinced , so would Freemasonry flourish . A few statistics were required from him which were as follows the meetings during the year were 40 , average , 16 for the year ; 26 members had been enrolled , making the total to 230 , which was a capital record for five years . The first Charitable Association had produced 200 guineas , which had been sent" to the various Masonic Institutions , and the second had well started , already having sent up about 50 guineas , and promised to be as successful as the first . The

income for the year had increased , and , altogether , as shown by the balancesheet , as audited the previous week , proved the lodge to be in a sound financial position . One very notable feature in this lodge of instruction was the rehearsals of the installation ceremony which had been performed by various Masters in a very commendable manner , also the Fifteen Sections worked by the

brethren of the lodge proved its value . So long as he was entrusted with the Secretaryship he should carry out his duties with the same assiduity as before . Bro . E . A . RICE also thanked the President for the very kind allusions to him , and promised his best endeavours to continue the good work so well begun . He loved good working , and the splendid ritual deserved their best efforts to carry out their duties to the very best of their ability .

The toast of " The Visitors " was ably proposed , and duly responded to by Bro . BUCKEKIDGE , P . M . Some capital harmony was rendered throughout the evening by Bros . Arthur Grover , Hobley , H . A . Stunt , C , W . Stone , Salter , J . Morgan , Cranch , P . M . ; Grummant ( reciter ) , S . J . Derham ( flautist ) , and Harper , P . M . ( pianist ) .

They had , there * * ore , decided to present to hi-n a Past Master's jewel , and he now asked the P . G . M ., Bro . C . Letch Mason , in the nam : of the lodge , to make the presentation . Bro . 1 S 94 . When Bro . VV . L . Jackson was installed , he claimed the indulgence of t \ e brethren , as he feared he would not be able to attend the meetings very regularly . Bro . Myers—Bro . Jackson's I P . M . —in all instances supplied his place , so that virtu illy Bro . Myers had occupied the chair a third time . By his regular attendance , his punctu ility , his beautiful rendering of the ceremonies , and by his courteous onsideration , Bro . Myers was an example to all , and he ( Bro . Mason ) was quite sure that that li-tle

testitimomal , which was as richly deserved as it was freely given , would he valued by Bro . Myers as some slight indication of the feeling of the brethren of his lodge . Bro . Mason having attached the jewel , wished Bro . Myers long life to wear it . Bro . Myers , to whom the purpose of the members of Copley Lodge it appears was an entire surprise , in a few words and with some emotion acknowledged the presentation . He was , he said , so taken aback that he could not find suitable language at that moment , but intimated that at some future time he hoped to be able adequately to thank them .

After notices of propositions had been given and the W . M . had received the " Hearty good wishes " and congratulations of all , the lodge was closed .
