Bro . Burgess , P . M . 1325 , in response , said as a pretty frequent visitor at various lodges he could only say that in no lodge had he ever found better work or more genial hospitality than in the Royal Commemoration Lodge , and in very few had he found such a complete harmony prevailing amongst the officers . Bros . Swann , Abrahams , Bond , and Haynes also responded in somewhat similar , but briefer , terms . The next toast was " The Treasurer and Secretary , " the W . M . commenting on the long and valuable services he had rendered to the lodge , and hoped he might be spared for many further years of usefulness ; and , though it was the first year of the Secretary ' s duties , he had found him nothing but satisfactory , and hoped the lodge would long have the benefit of his services .
In reply , Bro . Watkins thanked the brethren for the kind way in which they had received the toast , also for their kind and unanimous vote on his election , and stated that not for years had the lodge been in such a sound financial condition , and promised as long as they liked to renew their confidence in him he would always do his duty faithfully and conscientiously .
Bro . Williams also replied . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Officers of the Lodge , " and trusted the W . M . elect would be as well assisted by his officers in the year to come as he had been in the past . Bros . Bro . W . Smith , the VV . M ., having taken the chair , opened the lodge , and there being no formal business before the lodge , the lecture was at once commenced . Bro . Ferry , had prepared a coloured diagram sixteen feet in length , in the form of a river and its tributary streams , which chart he divided into three divisions : firstly , Cloudy Traditions ; secondly , Traditional , Historical , and Operative Masonry commingled ;
and lastly , Speculative Masonry from the important year of 1717 . The lecturer referred in the first part to the remarkably apt coincidences of Masonic language expressed b y Apuleius in his accounts of the mysteries of Isis and Osiris , also by Mencius , and brought down this portion to the time of St . Alban , at Verulam . The second portion consisted chiefly of the highK' valued Old Charges existing from the middle
ages , but the main interest commence from the date of 1717 , when the first Grand Lodge was established . Here the diagram showed the course of these early days of Speculative Masonry , the branching off of the Grand Lodge of all England , also the subsequent branch from that ; the division of the stream at the great schism or secession , and the causes which probably led to it were lucidly explained ; the alterations
of the ritual in all Three Degrees ; the Royal Arch Degree asserting itself from time to time until it became a great institution ; the troubles and prosperity of each body until finally merged into one grand stream at the " blessed union , " and eventually being presided over by H . R . H ., the Prince of Wales , in 1 S 74 . The whole occupied 50 minutes , at the close of which the applause was long continued , and it was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a vote of

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.
He also complimented the lodge on their handsome generosity to the Master and to the Charities that evening , as well as on their financial position , which enabled them to do so .
Bro . Williams also replied . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Officers of the Lodge , " and trusted the W . M . elect would be as well assisted by his officers in the year to come as he had been in the past . Bros . Harding , Sandalls , Coombe , Wright , and Grundy having replied , the Tyler ' s toast concluded the proceedings .
Lodge of Perseverance ( No . 1743 ) . —A regular meeting of this lodge was held at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on Saturday , the Sth inst ., and was largely attended by the members and visitors as it was announced that Bros . Bro . W . Smith , the VV . M ., having taken the chair , opened the lodge , and there being no formal business before the lodge , the lecture was at once commenced . Bro . Ferry , had prepared a coloured diagram sixteen feet in length , in the form of a river and its tributary streams , which chart he divided into three divisions : firstly , Cloudy Traditions ; secondly , Traditional , Historical , and Operative Masonry commingled ;
and lastly , Speculative Masonry from the important year of 1717 .
The whole occupied 50 minutes , at the close of which the applause was long continued , and it was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a vote of
thanks to be lecturer be entered upon the minutes of the lodge . Afterwards the brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where Bro . Clemow had prepared for them a most enjoyable dinner .
