ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .
The Quarterly Court of Subscribers to this Institution was held on Thursday , at Freemasons' Hall . Bro . Henry Smith , P . G . D ., Deputy P . G . M . West Yorkshire , Vice-Patron and Treasurer of the Institution , presided , and he was supported by Bros . Capt . Homfray , Geo . Everett , Peter de Lande Long , E . M . Money , C . E . Keyser , A . C . Spaull , and Sir John B . Monckton .
After the minutes had been read and confirmed , Bro . HEDGES stated that he had received letters from the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , Earl Amherst , and Col . lames Peters , thanking the Committee of the Institution for electing them as Trustees . Bro . J AMES BRETT , in rising to move the re-election of Bro . Henry Smith as Treasurer , said it afforded him
great pleasure to do so . Bro . Smith was so well known that it was unnecessary to say much in recommending to the brethren that they should re-elect him . Bro . Smith was a great supporter of that and the other Institutions of Freemasonry , besides which he has presided over these quarterly meetings for a long time . Bro . WALTER HOI'EKIKK seconded tho motion , which
was then put , and unanimously carried . Bro . HENRY SMITH thanked the brethren for this renewed mark of their confidence in him . Bro . PETER DE LANDE LONG , P . G . D ., moved : " That the rank of Vice-Patron be conferred upon Bro . Jabez Hogg , P . G . D . ( Honorary ( Dentist ) in recognition of the eminent services rendered by him for many years
past to the Institution . " He said that Bro . Hogg for 20 years had devoted himself to the interests of the Insitution , besides which he had always been a strong supporter of everything that was for the good of Masonry . Under those circumstances the time might be considered to have come when his services should be recognised in a public manner , and it was with this view that the present motion was submitted to the
brethren . Bro . GEORGE EVERETT , P . G . T ., seconded the motion . The motion was adopted ncnt . con . Scrutineers for the election were appointed , and the election of 19 girls out of an approved list of 29 candidates was proceeded with . After the declaration of the poll , the thanks of thc meeting to the Chairman of the day and the Scrutineers of votes , were passed unanimously .

The minutes of the March Committee having been read and verified , the SECRETARY reported the deaths of two male annuitants and two male candidates . The Warden's report for the past month was read , and that of the Finance Committee read , adopted , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . Bros . Farnlield ,
Newton , and Kempton were appointed a Committee to draw up the annual report . The applications of three widows forthe half of their late husband ' s annuities were granted , and the Committee adjourned , alter passing a vote of thanks to the Chairman .

The members of the Grunt Western Railway staff at Smitlilicld , on the occasion of the retirement of Bro . J . D . Smith , after a period of 42 years' service , wishing to mark their appreciation and esteem , assembled at the VVhite Swan Hotel , Tudor-street , Whitefriars , on
the 8 th inst ., under the presidency of J . C . KlNGETT , Esq ., the Superintendent , who in presenting the testimonial , which consisted ot a beautifully executed vellum framed in oak and bronze , thanked Bro . Smith for his long and faithful service , highly complimenting him upon Ins irreproachable character , sterling honesty , and undoubted attention to business and the interests
of the great company he had represented in all parts of London for a period of 42 years , and trusted he would live many years to enjoy that retirement and rest from the worry and cares of business which he had so iustly earned . He therefore , in the names of his colleagues , asked him to accept an address , which he would read before he placed it in his hands .
Bro . SMITH , in reply , said . Mr . Kinjrett , brother officers and colleagues of the past and present , I hardly know how to find words to express what I would like to say , my heart is too full ; it carried him back many many years during which he had the honour and pleasure to serve thc Great Western Railway Company ,
When he looked at the testimonial before linn it spoke volumes , it made him feel young again , he had n # ver dreamt that he was so endeared to them as to deserve such kindness and words of praise from those of his colleagues who had just addressed him . forget this—one of the proudest moments of his lifesurrounded by his friends , both old and young ; to the older ones who would , like himself , soon be retiring , and the younger who had , he might say , their lives before them , he would desire nothing better than they should meet with that kindness they all had extended to him . value of the fund at the present time was . £ 116493 . 5 d ., an increase of ^ 100 16 s . iod . since last year , notwithstanding that they were maintaining 17 children on the fund . The concert given a few months since in the Guildhall resulted in an addition of £ 67 to the fund , and the individual subscriptions of members also showed an increase .
The Treasurer's and Auditors' reports were passed , and the Treasurer , Secretary , and Assistant Secretary were unanimously re-elected , the proposers and seconders bearing generous testimony to the great devotion and close attention to the work that was ungrudgingly given by Bros . Lord , Gover , and Dillon .
Bros . Allsford and Stanbury were elected as Auditors , and the Finance Committee was re-elected , but on thc Educational and General Purposes Committee several alterations were made , Bros . Strode-Lowe , Blackell , Stebbing , and Sweet being elected to succeed others who have previously served on the Committee .
For two vacancies on the fund there were five candidates , of whom three now made their third application , bringing forward to their credit the votes cast for them at the two previous elections . Bros . Allsford , Sweet , and John Griffin were appointed Scrutineers of the votes , and the election resulted as follows .: For the daughter of a deceased
brother of Ebrington Lodge 230 votes were brought forward , and to this number 604 votes were now added , making a total of 8 34 . For the son of a deceased brother of Metham Lodge 303 votes brought forward were now increased to 796 . These two were elected . A candidate from Torquay ( first application ) obtained 545 votes , and one from Princetown ( also a first application ) 113 votes . For the other candidates only 7 6
votes were recorded , including 28 brought forward . A motion , of which Bro . Lord had given notice , to vote a special sum to this last-named case was withdrawn , Bro . LORD explaining that from inquiries he had made he had come to the conclusion that if the money were voted some difficulty would arise as to the disposition of it . Votes of thanks to the Chairman and Scrutineers concluded thc business .

INSTALLATION OF THE PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER OF STIRLINGSHIRE .
On Tuesday , the 4 th inst ., there was a large gathering of brethren in Stirling on the occasion of the installation of Bro . George Christie , ex-Provost of Stirling , into the office of R . W . P . G . M . of Stirlingshire , which was rendered vacant through the
resignation of Bro . Shaw Stewart , M . P ., who has been chosen to succeed his father as Prov . Grand Master ol Renfrewshire West . On Tuesday , the 4 th inst ., there was a large gathering of brethren in Stirling on the occasion of the installation of Bro . George Christie , ex-Provost of Stirling , into the office of R . W . P . G . M . of Stirlingshire , which was rendered vacant through the
resignation of Bro . Shaw Stewart , M . P ., who has been chosen to succeed his father as Prov . Grand Master ol Renfrewshire West . The members of the Provincial Grand Lodge met in the Golden Hotel , and when thc lodge had been formally opened , the following deputation from the Grand Lod ge of Scotland was received : Bros , the Earl of Haddington , G . form in the Provincial Grand Lodge by the P . G . M . elect , who tendered to the M . W . the Grand Master thc emblem of authority , after which the Grand Master proceeded to instal the P . G . M ., which was done in a most impressive manner . In an able and eloquent speech he addressed the newly-installed P . G . M ., who briefly returned thanks . The Old Hundreth Psalm was sung , and the benediction pronounced by the P . G . Chapla ' ' A banquet afterwards took place .
