successive occupants of the chair to follow them , and for him to make comparisons . It had been a custom when a brother had done his duty faithfully and well for the lodge to recognise in a small way the manner in which he had performed that duty . had never had a bad Master applied to him , for he had done his best , and trusted he had given satisfaction . Mackay , who had been re-elected Treasurer , was unavoidably absent through ill-health . Bro . Roach , I . P . M ., effectivel y rendered the usual addresses , and was presented by the VV . M . with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of services rendered during the past year . Letters of regret for non-attendance were received from several Grand Officers , and the lodge was closed .

After an excellent banquet , the customary toasts were heartily given and cordially received . Bro . H . VV . Roach , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " said they were indeed privileged to have such a Mason to preside over them as Bro . Lancaster , who had filled the chairs of two lodges , and was now a Provincial Grand Officer of Surrey . There was no doubt a prosperous

year was in store for the lodge , and the brethren would cordially drink the toast . Bro . J . B . S . Lancaster , I ' rov . G . S . B . Surrey , W . M ., in responding , said the l . P . M . had been very kind in his remarks , and the brethren had been good enough to enthusiastically receive the toast . An honour was done him at the first meeting held with a view to form that lodge ,

when it was suggested that he should be thc first S . VV ., but with that caution which shouid at all times characterise Freemasonry , comparisons were made , and it was found that if he accepted that post he would afterwards be occupying the chair of two Craft lodges at the same time , contrary to the Hook of Constitu : ions . Bro . R > ach then kindly changed offices with him , and that had resulted in

a service to the lod ^ e . They had as their , first W . M . a very deservedly popular and well-known member of the Craft—Bro . Paull , P . G . Stwd . —who was succeeded by the brother who had just vacated the chair . He ( the VV . M . ) was now in the chair of a Marl ; lodge and a Principal of two chapters , and Scribe E . of another , and that did not add to his working in the Craft . His present position

reminded him that some years ago he stood before a board —not as now on the square—but he got over the difficulty , and pulled through in a modified degree . He hoped to pull through his present difficult position by their kind assistance . He desired to make the lodge a success as far as he could , and to deserve the enthusiasm and hearty reception accorded him .

The VV . M . then introduced an innovation into thc lodge in the form of a Charity box , and expressed the hope that it would be well supported at every meeting . In giving "The Past Masters , " the IV . M . said they had only two Past Masters , and it would be difficult to say anything too good of them .

Bro . IT . Vv " . Roach , I . P . M ., in response , thanked the brethren for the very handsome jewel presented to him for his services during the year . It was a great pleasure to preside as their VV . M ., and he only wished his reign had been more prosperous . Bio . Paull , P . M ., P . G . Stwd ., also replied .

successive occupants of the chair to follow them , and for him to make comparisons . It had been a custom when a brother had done his duty faithfully and well for the lodge to recognise in a small way the manner in which he had performed that duty . At the last meeting therefore they voted a Past Master's jewel to Bro . Musson , to whom he now had the pleasure of presenting it . It gave him extreme pleasure to make the presentation , and he hoped

the l . P . M . would live long to wear it . Bro . G . Musson , I . P . M ., returned thanks for the kind remarks of the W . M ., and the cordial reception of the toast . Although he had not broken the record of Bro . Holland , P . M ., he had had a good and successful year of office . They would sec by the balance-sheet that the balance brought forward was the highest since the foundation of the lodge . He hoped the W . M . ' s remark that they

had never had a bad Master applied to him , for he had done his best , and trusted he had given satisfaction . He was proud to be a member of that lodge , and still more of being a Past Master of it . He thanked them for the jewel presented to him , which he should be proud to wear . The toast of "The Initiates" was next cordially honoured and appropriately responded to . , The Worshipful Master gave the visiting brethren a

hearty welcome in proposing " The Visitors , " and expressed his pleasure at seeing several brethren of the Brownrigg Lodge , the W . M . and Wardens of the Warrant Officers Lodge , and many visitors who had journeyed from Chatham . Bro . Hitchings , W . M . 2346 , in response , said the lodge he represented was supposed to be an offshoot of the Wanderers Lodge , but it now numbered 103 members , which spoke well'for the progress of Masonry . He

considered the working of the l . P . M . had been most creditable , and would show the brethren coming on in office what was required of them . Bro . VV . Simpson , VV . M . 1524 , also replied , and acknowledged his indebtedness to the Wanderers Lodge of Instruction , under Bro . Holland .

night that he was initiated in the lodge where he had spent the best and plcasantest part of his life , and he had not missed one meeting during that time .
