thirtyfour pages of text . Few of our readers will appreciate the interest vvhich Masonic students take in these lists , but those who do will covet this volume for their libraries . For instance , the important question of whether Philadelphia was the mother city of Masonry in America may be settled by an engraved list . The lists themselves are very quaint , each lodge showing the sign of the tavern at

which it met , and most of the lodges being named from the tavern , as No . 2 , Bull and Gates ; No . 7 , Rummerthe design being a goblet ; No . 8 , Devil Tavern—the design being a picture of the Devil ; the name of this last , however , was Union Lodge . The earliest American lodge in this list is No . 126 , St . John's Lodge , at Boston . It met at the Bunch of Grapes Tavern at that time , but

the sign is not given . It is on account of this lodge that the work is dedicated to Bro . Lawrence . A few copies of this volume can be had of Bro . Wm . THE UNEMPLOYED IN EAST LONDON . —At a time when much thought is being given to this matter , a practical suggestion may be of service . Last year more than £ 300 , 000 worth of foreign matches were purchased by inconsiderate consumers in this country , to the great

injury of our own working people , so true is it that "evil is wrought by want of thought , as well as want of heart . " If all consumers would purchase Bryant and May's Matches , that firm would be enabled to pay £ 1000 a week more in wages . — -ADVT .

We are pleased to notice that the movement to establish a United Grand Lodge of New Zealand is taking definite shape . Branches of the Masonic Union are being formed in the different provinces , and meetings held in the principal cities to discuss the quebtion , and the proposal has met with a very fair share of favour and support . HOLLOWAV ' S PILLS . —Health or Wealth . —No sane person vvould hesitate an instant in the choice between these two conditions . Now is the season to secure the former , either by restoring or confirming it . These Pills expel all impurities from the system which fogs , foul vapours , and variable temperatures engender during

winter ; this medicine also acts most wholesomely upon the skin by disgorging the liver of its accumulated bile , and by exciting the kidneys to more energetic action ; it increases the appetite for food and strengthens the digestive process . The stomach and liver , vvith which most disorders originate , are fully under the control of these regenerative Pills , vvhich act very kindly yet more efficiently on the tenderest bowels , —ADVT ,
