We are glad to find that our hopes in respect of the Mark Benevolent Fund Festival have been realised , and that the total of Donations and Subscriptions approximates more closely to the record Return of 1897 than to that of last year . Ths Board of Stewards is substantially more numerous than in lSy ** , and—though this by no means follows as a matter of course—the amount raised is substantially greater . There were in all 150 who acted as Stewards on Wednesday , of whom five were ladies and 145 brethren , the amount obtained by their combined efforts being £ 207 ; - ios . Od . 1 London returning C 584 18 s ., and the Provinces , Foreign Stations , and other Degrees , . C 14 SS 12 s . 66 . Under the head of
LONDON will be four . d grouped together the ladies to the number of five ; the General Board , except as regards the lists which are entered elsewhere , 28 representatives of 20 lodges and the G . Turning to THE PROVINCES , of which there are 34 in all , though only 30 sent up Stewards , the total as we have said , is ^ 1488 12 s . 6 d ., obtained by the efforts of some 100 Stewards . Four of the half-dozen lodges in BERKS AND OXON were represented by as many Stewards ' , whose lists totalled up to . £ 39 7 s . 6 d ., and Bro . J . Balfour

The Chairman s Province of ESSEX sent up a contingent of five Stewards , among whom were the Earl of Warwick , Prov . Grand Master , and Bro . T . J . Railing , who acted as Steward for the Constantine Lodge , No . 145 , Colchester , with three brethren hailing from two other lodges . The total amounted to . 1 * 10 5 , and , considering that the Province was only constituted as such a few weeks ago , we consider this a most satisfactory Return .
The Province of GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND HEREFORDSHIRE sent up three Stewards , namely , Bros . Vassar-Smith , Prov . Grand Master ; Baron de Ferrieres , Past Prov . Grand Master ; and Benj . Lucas , W . There are Mark festivals at which the Province of KENT has figured to greater advantage , but there can be no question that its Returns compare very favourably with those of last year , when its Prov , Grand Master

The Chairman s Province of ESSEX sent up a contingent of five Stewards , among whom were the Earl of Warwick , Prov . Grand Master , and Bro . T . J . Railing , who acted as Steward for the Constantine Lodge , No . 145 , Colchester , with three brethren hailing from two other lodges . There are Mark festivals at which the Province of KENT has figured to greater advantage , but there can be no question that its Returns compare very favourably with those of last year , when its Prov , Grand Master
