said . He thought they were very fortunate in getting such a successor to the late Earl of Lathom . The motion was carried . Bro . ROBERT GREY , P . G . W ., moved : " That Bro . Walter H . Jessop , M . A ., M . B ., F . R . C . S E ., be elected Honorary Surgeon Oculist , in place of Bro . Jabez Hogg , F . R . C . S ., deceased . " He said the brethren knew how much they regretted
the loss by death of Bro . Jabez Hogg . They knew how indefatigable he was in looking after the children when occasion called upon him . He thought , however , that Bro . Walter Jessop would be as indefatigable ; he was one of the first oculists we had in the country ; he was senior oculist at St . Bartholomew ' s Hospital , and a higher testimonial than that it would be difficult to get . Bro . Jessop took great interest in Masonry , and he , and his wife too , were Life Governors of the Girls' Institution .
Bro . T . H . GARDINER seconded . Like Bro . Grey , he was grieved to hear of the death of Bro . Jabez Hogg . Unfortunately , they could not continue their work for ever , and the best thing they could do was when a vacancy occurred to fill it up in the best manner possible . The brethren had heard from the Chairman what was the capacity of Bro . Jessop for the post . In addition to his large experience at St . Bartholomew's Hospital and his private practice , he worked
many years at Moorfield ' s Hospital . In Bro . Jessop he ( Bro . Gardiner ) took great personal interest , because he assisted at his initiation in the Buckingham and Chandos Lodge in 1887 . Ten years afterwards Bro . Jessop passed the chair in that lodge ; he was an active Royal Arch Mason and in the Side Degrees . They could not have a better man , both as an expert in his profession and as an eminent man in Masonry .
The motion was carried . On the motion of Bro . A . C . SPAULL , seconded by Bro . C . PULMAN , the following recommendation of the General Committee was adopted : " That the iS eligible candidates remaining from the last election together with the 15 whose petitions have been since approved , be placed upon tbe list of candidates for tbe October Election , and that 16 vacancies be declared . "
The CHAIRMAN announced that the Earl of Dartmouth , Prov . G . Master for Staffordshire , would preside at the 112 th anniversary festival in May next . A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings .
