Lord Brassey , and author of" The Voyage of the Sunbeam , " died on the 14 th September of fever , contracted on the coast of Australia , and was buried at sea . The deceased was married to Bro . Lord Brassey in i 860 , and leaves four children to mourn her loss .
Bro . P . L . Simmonds , P . M ., and G . Steward of the Mark Degree , has just brought out a most interesting work ( published by Dean and Sons , Fleet-street ) . It is entitled "The Biitish Roll of Honour , " and gives a descriptive account of the various recognised Orders of Chivalry , and their insignia , Home and Foreign , with the names and addresses of some 4000 or 5030 Englishmen living who ate members of these Orders .
Bro . Dr . Richardson will deliver a course of eight lectures on " Physiology , " in the Memorial Hall , Farringdon-street , on Friday evenings , commencing to-day ( Friday ) . The instructions of so distinguished a teacher will be of value to all persons , and will have attractions for any who desire to know how rightly to treat the fearfully and wonderfully made body which each one calls his own . Each lecture will last from 8 to 9 .
At a private meeting ol the Eastbourne Town Council , held on Monday last , Bro . Alderman W . E . Morrison was , by an unanimous vote , offered the Mayoralty for the ensuing year ; on his declining the honour , Bro .
Alderman Boulton was chosen as Mayor , he having already occupied that position in 1885-6 . It is a fact worthy of notice that in Eastbourne the Mayor , deputy Mayor , all the aldermen , the town clerk , the borough surveyor , and the borough accountant are all members of the Craft .
Bro . Alderman Whitehead has twice recently appealed to the public for funds for the poor-box at the Guildhall . We are glad to note that the last appeal has had good effect . Besides a response of nearly £ 100 , a number of letters for various hospitals have been sent in . Of all benevolent agencies , the boor-boxes at the various
courts are the best and most economically managed . Not a penny is spent for working , while the knowledge of the officials of nearly the whole of the persons who come for relief ensures the money going in the right direction . As usual there is a strong list of vocalists and instrumentalists , comprising many old favourites and some new to fame . We can speak of Bro . Seymour Smith ' s annual entertainment as one of the most enjoyable we have the privilege of attending , and we trust it will be supported , as on former occasions , most generously .
The Royal Somerset Lodge , No . 973 , has celebrated the Jubilee year in a very praiseworthy manner , the brethren having given handsome donations to the Masonic Charities . The amounts subscribed are as follows : —To the Girls' School , X ' 63 ; to the Boys' School , £ 42 ;
to the Benevolent Institution for Men , £ 21 ; for Women , £ 21 ; making a total of £ 147 . The chief worker in the collection of this , and to whom its conception was due , was Bro . A . G . Hayman , the Charity Organisation Steward of the lodge .
LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF DUMFRIES POST-OFFICE . —The foundation stone of this important building is to be laid to-morrow ( Saturday ) afternoon , first by Bro . Villiers , Provincial Grand Master of Dumfriesshire , assisted by members of the Provincial Grand Lodge and
daughter lodges , and perhaps a deputation also from the Grand Lodge . The procession will be formed at the militia barracks at hall-past two o'clock . It will be headed by the militia band and ihe town council ( with the Provost in his official robes ) , and other bodies will take part in it .
To-morrow ( Saturday ) Bro . Lord Mayor Hanson will receive the Elcho Challenge Shield , which was won this year by the English eight at Wimbledon . The shield will be formally hung in the Guildhall by a detachment of the Tower Hamlets Engineers , of which Bro . Sir A . Kirby is Colonel commanding , and will remain in its place till won by the Irish or Scotch team at some future meeting of the National Rifle Association , when it will be removed to Dublin or Edinburgh as the case may be .

Bro . Sir Morell Mackenzie , who has latel y arrived in London from the Continent , reports very favour , ably of the present condition of the Imperial Crown Prince of Germany . Bro . Sir E . B . Malet , British Ambassador at Berlin , and the Lady Ermyntrude Malet , have left England , after their brief visit , and reached Berlin on Tuesday , where the Ambassador will resume his duties .

MASONIC CHARITY IN WEST LANCASHIRE . — On the 7 th inst ., a meeting of the Court ot Governors of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held at headquaiters in Hope-street , Liverpool , and during the proceedings a very large sum was voted towards the education , maintenance , and clothing of the children ol deceased Freemasons . The officers of the executive were
then proposed for re-election , when a reference was made to the death of Bro . Dr . M 'George , one of the medicil officers , who had long and faithfully served the Institution , and Bro . Dr . Henry Pitts , P . P . G . S . B ., was elected in his stead . Bro . Martin stated that he would like to resign in favour of some other brother who would worthily . perform the duties of Honorary Secretary , but the feeling of the
meeting was unanimously against this step , and he consented to serve again . A very conspicuous feature in the evening ' s business was the reading of a list of Jubilee contributions from the Hartington Lodge , No . 1021 , amounting to the handsome sum of £ 107 . The usual Committees were appointed , and votes of thanks to the Chairman and officers concluded the proceedings .

TERRY ' S THEATRE . —The Sub-Committee on Theatres , sitting at the office of the Metropolitan Board
of Works , on I uesday , recommended the -granting of the certificate for the above-named theatre . The certificate will be sealed to-day ( Friday ) , and the theatre will open on Monday next . VVe regret to hear that R . W . Bro . Lord De Tabley , Pa ^ t P . G . M . Cheshire , lies in a dangerous condition at his seat , Tabley Hall , Knutsford , and that there is
but little , if any , hope of his recovery . His lordship , who some time since resigned the Prov . G . Mastership of Cheshire , is 77 years of age . Bro . Frank R . Lawrence , Grand Master of Masons of New York , the famous debt-reducer of his Grand Lodge , is very handsomely represented by an engraving in the Jubilee issue of the London Freemason .
Bro . Lawrence was made a Mason in Excelsior Lodge , No . 195 , of New York , in 1 S 74 , and is now serving for the third year as Grand Master ot Masons—an unusal honour justly accorded him by his brethren . —Keystone . Northampton , on Monday next , the 17 th inst ., when R . W . Bro . the narl of Euston will be installed as P . G . Master of the province , in succession to R . W . Bro . the Duke of Manchester , resigned . Provincial Grand Lodge will be opened at 2 p . m ., and the ceremony will be performed by R . W . Bro . General Brownrigg , C . B ., P . G . M . of Surrey , who will be assisted in his duties by several Grand Officers .
Bro . the Earl of Euston , Prov . Grand Master designate of Norths and Hunts , is an initiate and present W . M . of the Lodge of Fidelity , No . 445 , Towcester , and Prov . S . G . W . of Norths and Hunts . His lordship is eldest son of the Duke of Grafton , and we doubt not will materially assist in piomoting the success of the Craft in the province he is about to preside over . We wish him all success in his new position .
Bro . Seymour Smith announces his annual benefit concert to take place at South-place Institute , Moorgate-street , to-morrow ( Saturday ) . As usual there is a strong list of vocalists and instrumentalists , comprising many old favourites and some new to fame . We can speak of Bro . Seymour Smith ' s annual entertainment as one of the most enjoyable we have the privilege of attending , and we trust it will be supported , as on former occasions , most generously .
The Royal Somerset Lodge , No . 973 , has celebrated the Jubilee year in a very praiseworthy manner , the brethren having given handsome donations to the Masonic Charities . The amounts subscribed are as follows : —To the Girls' School , X ' 63 ; to the Boys' School , £ 42 ;
to the Benevolent Institution for Men , £ 21 ; for Women , £ 21 ; making a total of £ 147 . The chief worker in the collection of this , and to whom its conception was due , was Bro . A . G . Hayman , the Charity Organisation Steward of the lodge .
LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF DUMFRIES POST-OFFICE . —The foundation stone of this important building is to be laid to-morrow ( Saturday ) afternoon , first by Bro . Villiers , Provincial Grand Master of Dumfriesshire , assisted by members of the Provincial Grand Lodge and
daughter lodges , and perhaps a deputation also from the Grand Lodge . The procession will be formed at the militia barracks at hall-past two o'clock . It will be headed by the militia band and ihe town council ( with the Provost in his official robes ) , and other bodies will take part in it .
To-morrow ( Saturday ) Bro . Lord Mayor Hanson will receive the Elcho Challenge Shield , which was won this year by the English eight at Wimbledon . The shield will be formally hung in the Guildhall by a detachment of the Tower Hamlets Engineers , of which Bro . Sir A . Kirby is Colonel commanding , and will remain in its place till won by the Irish or Scotch team at some future meeting of the National Rifle Association , when it will be removed to Dublin or Edinburgh as the case may be .

On his return to London from Scotland , the Prince of Wales started for Newmarket to attend the Houghton Meeting , and is expected back in town to-dav ( Friday ) . ' H . R . H . the Prince of VVales has concluded his visit to the Queen at Balmoral , and left for London , vid Aberdeen , on Monday .
Bro . Sir Morell Mackenzie , who has latel y arrived in London from the Continent , reports very favour , ably of the present condition of the Imperial Crown Prince of Germany . Bro . Sir E . B . Malet , British Ambassador at Berlin , and the Lady Ermyntrude Malet , have left England , after their brief visit , and reached Berlin on Tuesday , where the Ambassador will resume his duties .
Bro . the Lord Mayor of London ( Sir Reginald Hanson , Bart . ) will formally open the new paik at Kil . burn , which has been conveyed to the Corporation of London by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners , on Saturday next , the 22 nd inst .
The Prince of Wales has consented to visit Falmouth on the 2 nd November , when his Royal Highness will receive an address from the inhabitants , and will lay the foundation-stone of a new church . On the following day he will be present at the consecration of Truro Cathedral , of which his Royal Highness laid the first stone .
Bro . J . D . Collier , who has acted as Secretary of theMontague Guest Lodge , No . 1900 , since itwas founded , was on Wednesday evening installed as W . Ihe stone will be laid with Masonic ceremonial , and his Royal Highness will have the assistance of sundry Grand Officers as well as of the Prov . Grand Lodge of Norths and Hunts .
MASONIC CHARITY IN WEST LANCASHIRE . — On the 7 th inst ., a meeting of the Court ot Governors of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution was held at headquaiters in Hope-street , Liverpool , and during the proceedings a very large sum was voted towards the education , maintenance , and clothing of the children ol deceased Freemasons . The officers of the executive were
then proposed for re-election , when a reference was made to the death of Bro . Dr . M 'George , one of the medicil officers , who had long and faithfully served the Institution , and Bro . Dr . Henry Pitts , P . P . G . S . B ., was elected in his stead . Bro . Martin stated that he would like to resign in favour of some other brother who would worthily . perform the duties of Honorary Secretary , but the feeling of the
meeting was unanimously against this step , and he consented to serve again . A very conspicuous feature in the evening ' s business was the reading of a list of Jubilee contributions from the Hartington Lodge , No . 1021 , amounting to the handsome sum of £ 107 . The usual Committees were appointed , and votes of thanks to the Chairman and officers concluded the proceedings .
Bro . the Rev . E . J . Fessenden , Incumbent of Chippawa , Niagra Falls , a member of the Committee of the Church Emigration Society , was one of the named speakers on " Emigration" at the Church Congress , Wolverhampton , and in the course of his address bore testimony to the value of the Society ' s woik in bringing into close contact the home and Colonial clergy for the
purpose of directing English emigrants to the places where theirlabour is required , and having their temporal as well as their spiritual wants looked after on their arrival in the Colony .
