The musical programme was ably carried out by Bros . Tom Taylor , A . his seat asl . P . M ., was presented with ahandsome and welldeserved jewel in recognition of his past year ' s labours . The officers for the current year were appointed in the following order , viz ., Bros . W . B . Mirle , S . W . ; H . Hibberd , J . W . ; J . T . Rowe , P . , on investment , was addressed by the new Master in appropriate language , and with a confidence which augurs well for the chair work during his term of office . Bro . Lane completed an admirably conducted ceremony by a perfect rendering of the customary address . The election of an Audit Committee completed the agenda of business , and nothing further offering , " Hearty good wishes " were expressed , and the lodge was closed .

The banquet was in every way worthy of the lodge and of the well known establishment in which it was served , and left nothing wanting to gratify those who partook of it , as well the numerous guests as the hosts themselves . The usual toasts were duly honoured , Bro . Binckes responding for " The Grand Officers , " and numerous Past Masters for "The Visitors . " We were unable to remain until the final toast , but up to the point of our departure the thorough harmony and good

fellowship which pervaded the company , and the quiet order and regularity of the entire proceedings , both at labour and refreshment , made our visit and that of all those with whom we subsequently conversed , one of the most agreeable Masonic re-unions we had shared in for some time . We b-lieve the "Charities" were not forg Men , and doubtless the same good fellowshi p continued until "nod w shes for " Poor and distressed " gave the final signal for dispersion .

M ., who afterwards installed Bro . R . J . Campbell as W . M . of the lodge in his usual fluent and impressive

style . The following brethren received the collars of office : Bros . Henry Young , S . W . ; John Insch , J . W . ; J . E . Walford , P . M ., Treas . ; Edwin George , P . M ., Sec . ; Thomas B . Pugh , S . D . ; \ V . J . Sparrow , ] . D . ; R . W . Huntley , I . G . ; A . G . Caws , D . C . ; H . E . Ogden , Stwd . ; and J . J . Marsh , Tyler . Bro . J . H . Clare received the collar of I . P . M ., and a handsome Past Master ' s jewel was presented to him in recognition of the courteousneis and

amiability which distinguished his occupancy of the Worshipful Master ' s chair . The names of several intending initiates and joining members were given in , and when the lodge was closed , a very superior banquet was provided . The proposition of the toasts , which came on in due course , was distinguished by great brevity , and the interpolation of an unusally large supply of beautiful vocal and instrumental music , the executants being Bros . J . VV .

Sparrow , A . C . Blunderfield , A . F . Hardyment , F . Fighiera , H . M . and VV . W . Hind , Walter Latter , R . A . M ., P . P . G . Org ., Musical Director , VV . J . Harris , and Charles Wood . Bro . Clare , I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " and said the brethren had known him many years , and they all liked him . They knew he had the interests of the lodge at heart , and in the new W . M . he was sure they were starting now on a very successful year .

The W . M . opened his reply by a declaration of policy , which was that as "brevity was the soul of wit , " at the end of his year of office the brethren would have to admit that he had been the wittiest of Masters . That night , however , in particular , as there was so much music on the programme , he would be exceptionally brief in his remarks , and he would simply thank the brethren for so cordially drinking the toast . He hoped some night , when there was not such a

large programme , to tell them a little more about himself . After some music , the W . M . proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Clare , " who was what they might call a champion . They could not help liking him , and they did like him , for he was a genial , good fellow . Bro . Clare said he wished to be as brief as the W . M ., and he thanked the brethren most heartily for their kindness in voting him the jewel , and so well supporting him

during the year . TheW . M ., in proposing "The Past Masters , " said he did not know much of the possession by other lodges of Past Masters , but in the Marquis of Ripon Lodge there were so many and so excellent , that they could take them from the beginning to the present time , and they were all good men and true . No matter what was required of them the assistance was always ready . He then referred to the work of Bros . Tovell , Gray , George , Poulton , Dutton ,

Fisher , and Clare , making a feeling allusion to Bro . Poulton ' s great loss in the death of his wife . Bro . Tovell said lie had been in the lodge iS years , and he was the only one left of the first initiates . During that time he had only missed three attendances , as they might see by the books . Coming to the lodge was one of the the luxuries he looked forward to . He was always happy in the lodge and comfortable among the brethren . The

visitors came and were very friendly with them , and a man must be very cynical indeed if he could not enjoy such meetings . There was one thing that had damped his spirits that night—Bro . Taylor was not there ; but as his brother , the Mayor of Chelmsford died that morning at half-past four , it was utterly impossible for him to come . Afier thanking the brethren again , he said he trusted life might be spared to him many years to enjoy these pleasant

evenings in the Marquis of Kipon Lodge . Bro . Gray , P . M ., also responded , and expressed the great pleasure he feltin seeing the different brethren coming forward and qualifying themselves for office . He assured the W . M . of his readiness at all times to render any assistance he could if it would promote the prosperity of the lodge either in its working or in its support ot the Charitable association connected with it . It was desiraole that

the brethren should know of this association , which had already paid 50 guineas to the Charities . By this means tney got votes as Life Governors . He also hoped the brethren would attend the lodge of instruction on Monday evenings at eight at the Lord Stanley , Paragon-road , Marestreet , Hackney . After the toast of " The Visitors" had been proposed , drunk , and responded to , the W . M . gave " The Treasurer and Secretary . "

Bro . Edwin George , P . M ., Sec ., in reply , said to his regret the t reasurer , Bro . Walford , had been obliged to leave before this toast was proposed , and the brethren were di-prived of the benefit of hearing a very able response to it . But for himself he ( Bro . George ) , in replying for the portion of the toast which more particularly related to him , could assure the brethren that he was oniy luo glad to be able to be of use to the Marquis of Kipon Lodge ; it was a great pleasure and no trouble . The Tyler ' s toast brought the pleasant proceedings to a close .

Montague Guest Lodge ( No . igoo ) . —Tu members of this highly efficient lodge held their installatio meeting at the Inns of Court Hotel on the 12 th inst ., , " in addition to the usual routine of the evening , Bro n ' Philippe was duly installed W . M . by the retiring W . M ' Bro . Hemvood . The ceremony was most efficiently carried out , but owing to the late serious illness of Bro . Philm „„

the ceremony was curtailed . The brethren and the visitors ' of whom there was a large gathering , expressed their greatest satisfaction and pleasure at seeing Bro . Phili ppe occupy the chair , he being held in the greatest esteem both for his upright manner of conducting the affairs of the Craft as well as for his generous support of the Charities . During the evening a sumptuous banquet was spread and

, partaken of by about 50 of the brethren , who expressed their warmest praise of the arrangements generally . The menu card was a special and unique feature in the programme , being frontispieced by miniature photos of trie officers , whose names followed in the text with an appro , priate quotation from theimmortal Bard , theselectionbeing particularly apt in each case , and paid high tribute to the

past catering for the brethren by pointing prominentl y to one brother as " a goodly portly man i' faith and a corpu . lent , " & c . The centre of the book was graced by a fullpage portrait of the W . M . —an excellent production , while the end described a ducal menu , followed by toasts interspersed with the titles of songs and the artistes , a separate volume being handed to each brother of the songs and

recitations that were pleasingly and ably rendered by Madame Florence , and her elegantly attired and amiable daughter , Miss Ethel Winn , and Bros . R . Groome and F . Bevan , with Bro . Turle Lee presiding at the grand piano , and Mr . Chas . Fry , the eminent provider of recitations . During the evening the usual toasts were given , and heartily responded to , and a sympathetic address was given

by Bros . Henwood and Brooks , who expressed their hearty sympathy with the W . M . in his illness , and carried the lodge with their regrets at his enforced absence . The speech was concluded with the chorus of "He's a jolly good fellow , " which poured forth with such emphasis as to leave no doubt it was heartily felt .

We regret to learn Bro . Philippe is suffering from a spasmodic disease of his heart , which renders it necessary for him to abstain from any undue amount of excitement or fatigue , but we are pleased to be able to state that the work through which he passed has not had the least injurious effect upon our esteemed brother , who expresses himself as better for the event .

The beautiful ceremony was most ably and efficiently performed by Bro . Lane , who , at its conclusion , received the acknowledgments of all present , and on taking

his seat asl .

Sundry communications having received attention the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet ; a very agreeable evening resulting to the entire satisfaction of all present .
