Masonic Notes .

Before these lines reach our readers , the sad news of the death of the Heir Presumptive to thc throne will have been sped throughout the world , and will have created universal and wide-spread sorrow . Under any circumstances , the shock

would be severe , but , coming- as it does almost on thc eve of a marriage , thc prospect of which had called forth much more than the conventional rejoicing * over the match , it is doubly so . Every Englishman was glad that an English princess had been chosen to ( ill so exalted a position , and that the choice had fallen on the daughter of thc amiable and beloved Duchess of Teck . * : > : 1

To thc nation the Duke was known as a kindl y and genial English gentleman , without any pretentions , but as one who had done his best to ( jualify himself for the great position apparently in store lor members 01 the masonic

nun . iraiernily had probably more favourable opportunities of becoming nctiuatnlcd with his personality than many others . Me appeared to have inherited from his illustrious father a love for thc Craft , which was shown on all occasions when opportunity offered ,

notably on the occasion of the Provincial Grand Mastership of Berkshire becoming vacant about a year ago , when the Duke was installed in the office so long held by the late Sir Daniel Gooch . * * »

In the expressions of sympathy with the Prince and Princess of Wales which will pour in from all parts of the world , none will be more heartfelt and genuine than those from his brethren of the

Craft . The Grand Master of English Freemasons has endeared himself to all of us to an extent that can scarcely be understood beyond thc circle of Masonry , and thc great sorrow that has overtaken his Royal Highness and the illustrious famil y

whose joy has been so suddenly turned into mourning , will be shared alike by thc Entered Apprentice and the rulers of the Craft . * * *
