MASONIC CALENDARS . SUSSEX . The lir 3 t to be published for 1 S 92 , issued in the month of December last , is the " Masonic Almanac " for the Province of Sussex , by authority ot H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , P . G . M ., the Prov . G . M ., the D . Prov . G . M . being the Rt . Hon . Sir W . T . Marriott , O . C ., M . P . The name of

the editor does not transpire , but doubtless we shall not err in crediting the indefatigable Prov . Grand Secretary , Bro . V . P . Freeman , with that duty . At all events the work is well done , in accordance with all that emanates from that active and well managed province . The special features of its compilation have been noted several times in the Freemason , so that we need only now state it has been edited

on the same lines as its immediate predecessor , and is brimful of information respecting the personnel , statistics , finances , officers and the Charities in connection with Sussex , all being most systematically arranged in a very handy form , and should be much prized by the Fraternity , so ably provided for by this neat and correct little annual . There are 27 lodges in Sussex , with 1311 members ; 9 chapters and 245 companions ; and S Mark lodges .

BERKSHIRE . Singular to state , the next in order of publication is for a province also favoured by having one of the Royal Family to preside over its interests , and is called " The Berkshire Masonic Register and Calendar for 1892 . " It is compiled and edited by Bro . John T . Morland , M . A ., the D . Prov . G . M ., and is its first appearance , the printer and publisher beinir Bro . G . ] . Cosburn , of Newbury , from whom copies

may be had , post free , for is . 3 d ., though it contains some 150 pages of closely printed matter . The province is not a large one ( 13 lodges and 537 members ) , yet it undoubtedly has one of the best Masonic directories published in England , and the editor has struck out a plan and a path for himself which rellects the greatest crediton his ingenuity and skill , the handsomely printed register being literally a

guide to the province , not only with respect to its present condition , but also as to its past history . The "Sketch of Freemasonry in Berkshire , 1725-1891 , " is a model of its kind , and with valuable tables extends to some 2 G pages , and in that respect is far ahead of any other directory , even for the large provinces . The particulars thus afforded are both valuable and interesting , and should

alone lead to this excellent annual being largely subscribed for by brethren out of the province ; whilst so numerous are its other features respecting the local lodges , chapters , and other Masonic bodies , that we shall not be surprised to hear of a second edition being called for , as the brethren in Berks naturally will at once secure copies for themselves , so that unless the edition is unusually large it cannot fail to be soon exhausted . The register of members of the Province

of Berkshire and of the Mark Province of Berks and Oxon , with the Masonic bodies to which they belong , is arranged on quite a new system , and we are glad also to note the complete list of subscribers to the Central Masonic Charities and the '' Mark Benevolent Fund . " Bro . Morland assuredly will receive a hearty welcome into the corps of editors of English Masonic Calendars , and will be placed in the front rank by all who know how to appreciate his industry , zeal , and accuracy as the compiler of this most useful Register and Calendar .

Steele , l . P . M . A very satisfactory balance-sheet was unanimously adopted , and the lodge was closed . A banquet was held at the Holborn Restaurant , and the usual toasts were subsequently honoured . Bro . Hastings Miller , G . S . B ., replying for " The Grand Officers , " thanked the W . M . and brethren for the kindly manner in which the toast had been received . It was some

years since he had visited that lodge , and he had thoroughly enjoyed himself that evening . The W . M . had said that the Grand Officers did all they could for Freemasonry , and , speaking personally , he ( Bro . Miller ) could say that for the past 23 years his life had been bound up in Masonry , and his was not an isolated case . It took a long time to work up to the position of Grand Officer , but when attained

it was an honour to the brother and to the lodge with which he was connected . Bro . R . Steele , l . P . M ., then said it fell to his lot to propose the toast of " The W . M ., " and he could assure them it gave him very much pleasure to do so . He had known Bro . Evans , the W . M ., for some time , and was sure he had been working up for the position , and would perform his

duties in a manner that would give satisfaction to all . Bro . J . B . Evans , W . M ., said it was with feelings of the greatest pleasure that he rose to return his sincere thanks for the hearty manner in which they had drank his health , and the kind wishes expressed would stimulate him to carry out his duties to their satisfaction . Of course , a great deal of his success would depend upon the assistance he received

from the officers in carrying out their duties , and he hoped and trusted they would assist him in every possible way in the lodge and at the banquet table . While he had their confidence in carrying out the duties of the lodge , he also hoped to enjoy their confidence in other matters necessary to be done for the observance of order and decorum . If he was thus supported he should do all he could—it would

be impossible to raise the prestige of the lodge—to uphold its grand position and reputation . "The Initiate" having been heartily honoured , the W . M . gave "The Visitors" in cordial terms , and warmly welcomed the Go visiting brethren present . Bro . Hudson , P . P . G . W . Sussex , in response , saidhehad heard how this lodge received its visitors , and at last he had

been enabled to visit it . He was especially pleased to attend , as he remembered the time when the W . M . had not the opportunity of being called brother . He knew , however , that when Bro . Evans entered Freemasonry he would prove an excellent Mason , and in the position into which he had been installed that evening he would do credit to the lodge . He wished the W . M . health and strength to

perform his duties , and was sure that 12 months hence there would be even a larger gathering present to congratulate him than there was that evening . It would be a considerable time before he ( Bro . Hudson ) forgot the installation of his old friend into the chair of the Old Concord Lodge . Bros . Terry and Lucas having also replied , the W . M . briefly proposed "The Past Masters , " for which Bra .

Steele , l . P . M ., returned thanks . Other toasts were given , and a successful meeting terminated with the Tyler's toast . Under the direction of Bro . Turle Lee , an excellent programme of music was well carried out , the artistes being Miss Annie Matthews , Miss Annie VVilan , and Bros . J . Gawthorp and Sutton Shepley .

DomatlC Lodge ( No . 177 ) . —The installation meeting of this centenary lodge was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . Lodge was opened , and the minutes confirmed , after

which Bro . G . Clark was raised to the Third Degree , and Bro . T . S . Smith passed to the Second Degree . Bro . H . N . Price , P . M ., then assumed the chair , and installed Bro . E . A . G . Smith as W . M . in an able manner , enjoyed by all present . The following officers were appointed and invested : Bros . A . Piper , S . W . ; J . Barnett , jun ., P . M ., J . W . ; G . Goodfellow , l . P . M ., by the W . M ., and was suitably acknowledged .

Lodge was then closed , and a banquet followed , which was well served under the superintendence of Bro . Clemow . The usual toasts were subsequently honoured , and a selection of music rendered under the direction of Bro . Riechelmann , Org ., assisted by Madame Riechelmann , Miss Hipwell , and Bros , loseph Hav and Bob Rae .

" The Queen and the Craft " and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " were heartily received , after which Bro . W . J . Ferguson , P . M ., proposed "The Grand Officers , " coupling with it the name of Bro . G . Everett , Grand Treasurer .

Bro . Geo . Everett , G . 'Treas ., said hc felt very highly thc privilege of responding to so important and popular a toast as that of the Grand Officers , It seemed but yesterday they deplored the loss of a member of the Craft , who held the important position of Pro Grand Master . They had now to deplore the loss of a brother beloved by the whole
