The annual conference and dinner of the Chambers of Shipping of the United Kingdom , vvas held in the Cannon-street Hotel , on Friday , the Sth instant , among those present at the latter being Bros . Sir John E . Gorst , O . C , M . P ., the Lord Mayor , Sir George Elliot , Bart .,

M . P ., Sir E . J . Reed , K . C . B ., M . P ., and others . Bro . Sir George O . Trevelyan , Bart ., M . P ., was present at a meeting of the Woiking Men ' s Club of Bridgeton . Glasgow , and expressed his satisfaction at learning lhat the club was strictly non-political .

The Kennell Club opened their 32 nd annual exhibition of sporting and other dogs at the Alexandra Palace on Tuesday , the entries being 1379 , and including some of the finest specimens of dogs in the kingdom . Notwithstanding the intense cold , the attendance of visitors was very large . On Saturday evening last , Prince Albert Victor

of Wales , vvho is stationed at York with his regiment ( the ioth Hussars ) , presented the prizes to the successful students of the York Institute . Bro . the Dean of York , vvho is President of the Institute , received his Royal Highness , and , the prizes having been distributed , a vote of thanks , on the motion of the Lord Mayor of York , was passed to the Prince by acclamation for his kindness in attending .

The whole of Mr . Walter Gilbey ' s stud of shire bred horses vvas disposed of by auction at Elsenham Hall , near Bishops Stortford , on Tuesday , the Prince of Wales ond Bros . Lord Egerton of Tatton , Lord Wantage , and Lord Hertford being among the buyers . The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon have arrived at their town house in Portman-square from their

Italian villa at Porto Fino , near Genoa , where they have been staying since December . Lord Carnarvon is somewhat unwell , and under medical care . The marriage of Lord William B . Nevili , fourth son of the Marquess of Abergavenny , with Mdlle . Lerisa M . C . de Murrieta , elder daughter of the Marquis and Marchioness de Santuree , was solemnised at the Oratory ,

Brompton , on Tuesday , the Prince and Princess of Wales with Prince George and the Princesses of Wales being present at the ceremony . Their Royal Highnesses were also present at the wedding breakfast given by the Marquis and Marchioness de Santuree at their residence , Carlton House-terrace , among the other distinguished guests being Bro . Lord and Lady Suffield , Bro . Lord Alcester , Bro .

The annual general meeting of the Governors of the London Fever Hospital vvas appointed to be held at the Freemasons' Tavern on Thursday , the 14 th inst , under the presidency of Dr . Buchanan , F . R . S ., F . R . C . P ., Medical Officer to the Local Government ; Board , and a

Vice-President of the Hospital . We gather from the report that the income of the Institution is about £ 7000 . and the expenditure about £ 10 , 000 , and as the Hospital is the only one in the Metropolis vvhich is especially available by trade employees , school teachers , governesses ,

clerks , & c , vvho , on payment of a small fee ( 3 guineas ) , are treated for as long a time as may be necessary vvith the utmost skill and care . It is certainly an Institution which deserves a generous measure of support , and we strongly recommend it to the notice of our readers and the public generally .

General Lord Wolseley presided at the annual meeting , on the Sth inst ., of the West Greenwich Working Lads' Institute and Ragged School , and in the course of his address , laid particular stress on the necessity for physical training . The Prince of Wales has contributed 100 guineas towards the fund , which is being raised for adapting Norwich Castle and its adjacent buildings to receive the

collections of the Norfolk and Norwich Museums , and to provide a gallery for the exhibition of paintings and other works of art . Previous to his departure for South Australia , Bro . the Earl of Kintore will be entertained at a farewell dinner by the members of the Junior Constitutional Club , of whose Committee he has been chairman since its foundation . Monday , the 25 th inst ., is the day chosen for the banquet .

I tie Duchess of Albany , who has been staying in Germany for some time past , arrived in London on Friday , the Sth inst ., and at once drove to Buckingham Palace . The following day her Royal Highness left London for Ooborne , on a visit to her Majesty . Bro . Lord Mayor Whitehead has just been presented by the King of Servia with the insignia of the

Grand Cordon of the Royal Order of St . Saoa , in recognition of his services in the cause of education . The insignia were handed to his lordship by the Secretary of the Servian Legation in Londbn , on Friday , the Sth inst . Bro . Henry Irving , who is an honorary member of the Scottish Society of Literature and Art , Glasgow , has forwarded a donation to the library of 25 volumes , among

them being editions of " Don Quixote " the " Wellington Despatches , " and " Shakespeare . " ' Bro . Col . Edis presided at the annual dinner of the 20 th Middlesex ( Artists ) Rifle Volunteers , held at the Criterion , on Saturday last , Bro . General Lord Wolseley being present as one of the guests . M . Waddington , French Ambassador in London ,

presided at the 21 st Anniversary Festival in aid of the funds of the French Hospital and Dispensary , which was held at Willis ' s Rooms , St . James's , on Saturday last , vvhen the subscriptions vvere announced as amounting to over £ 2000 . Bro . Sir P . Cunliffe Owen was one of the guests , and Bro . the Lord Mayor , vvho was to have attended , sent word to the effect that he was too unwell to fulfil his engagement .

The 14 th ordinary general meeting of the shareholders of Messrs . Perry and Company , Limited , will be held at the company's offices , 3 6 , Lancaster-street , Birmingham , on Tuesday , lhe 19 th instant , when the Directors will present their report ot the operations for the past year , and other business will be transacted . The audited statement of accounts shows that after satisfying every liability ,

the profits for the year ended the 31 st December last , amounted to £ 14 , 746 16 s . Sd ., and out of this the Directors recommend a dividend of 2 . { - per cent ., making 5 per cent , for the year on preference shares , and 7 per cent , for the six months , making vvith the interim dividend of 3 per cent , paid already , a total of 10 per cent , for the year on ordinary shares , the amounts thus appropriated , and a

further £ 2500 carried to the reserve account ( and thus raising it to £ 4 8 , 000 ) , there will remain a balance to be carried forward , with the next year ' s profit and IOFS account ° f £ ' 55 9 s . Sd . This shows that the company is in a very flourishing condition . The Duke of Cambridge has consented to preside at the annual festival vvhich will be held at the Hotel Metropole on the 2 nd April next in aid of the Royal

Westminster Opthalmic Hospital . The institution is greatly in need of funds , and an urgent appeal will be made on the occasion . Parliament will re-assemble for the dispatch of business , on Thursday next , the 21 st instant , and the Prime Minister and the First Lord of the Treasury have issued their invitations for the Ministerial banquets , vvhich are usually held the evening previous to the meeting .

On Tuesday , the Mayor of Hartlepool received a communication to the effect that Prince Albert Victor of Wales has generously acceeded to the request that he will visit the town and open the new municipal buildings . The day fixed for the ceremony , which vvil be observed as a general holiday , is the ist ot May . The Prince of Wales , who was accompanied b y Prince George of VVales , and attended by Lord A .

Somerset and Col . Stanley Clarke , left London for the Riviera on Tuesday . His Royal Highness travelled by the South Eastern Railway and vvas met at Charing Cross Station by Bro . Sir Edward Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., and vvas accompanied on his journey as far as Paris by Bro . Sir Arthur Sullivan , and Mr . R . Sassoon . The Prince of Wales will take up his quarters at the Bristol during his brief stay in Paris , vvhich he will leave to-day ( Friday ) and will remain about three weeks in the Riviera .

THE SPORTSMAN ' S EXHIBITION . —This popular fixture is this year arranged to open on April 4 th at the nevv "Central Hall , " Holborn , W . C . ( opposite the Inns of Court Hotel ) , and in its new locale will doubtless attract a great many more visitors even than in former years . There is no doubt that for an exhibition of this class a hall easy of approach is a great desideratum , and this

point has now been fully met , as the "Central Hall" is within easy walking distance either of the City or the West End , and is in direct omnibus communication with every railway terminus in London , and the increased facilities of approach are sure to have a most beneficial

effect on the attendance . The "Central Hall has been designed especially vvith a view to the ; requirements of trade exhibitions , and is lighted throughout by electricity . Mr . Harry Etherington , the original promoter , is still the manager , and the offices of the exhibition are 43 , Nevv Oxford-street , VV . C .

The Lecture is a survival of an old form of " working , " now obsolete , and vvas given to illustrate customs and ceremonies of the past now but little known , save amongst Masonic archaeologists .

Sunday last , the ist inst ., was the 49 th anniversary of the Queen ' s marriage with the late Prince Consort , who died on the 14 th December , 1 S 61 , so that her Majesty has been a widow for upwards of 27 years . The ball held at the St . George ' s Hall , Stonehouse , on the 6 th inst ., in aid of the Mark Masonic Benevolent Fund , was very attractive . This is the second

vvhich has been held under the direction of a committee at the invitation of Bro . Crouch , whose zeal for Mark Masonry is well known throughout the Western Counties . The committee vvere successful last year in securing for Lodge Friendship a Life-Governorship of the Fund , and the committee have every reason to believe that they will be able thisyear to place Mark Lodge Sincerity in a similar position . Thc room vvas specially decorated with flowers ,

mirrors , plants , Sic . On the 27 th ult ., at the Grosvenor Hotel , Blackburn , in connection vvith the Lodge of United Brethren , Bro . Chas . Hindle was installed as Worshipful Master by Bro . T . T . Mercer , P . M . ; and Bro . W . Lamb , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., invested a number of officers . A supper vvas also provided , and an interesting programme rendered .

( The Quarterly Communication of the Grand Lodge of Scotland was held in Edinburgh on the 7 th inst . There vvas an exceptionally large attendance , upwards of 400 brethren being present . The Grand Master , Sir Archibald Campbell occupied the Throne . We shall give a full report next week .

ThejOld Masonians announce another Social Smoking Concert ( the sixth ) for to-night ( Friday . ) Judging from the programme we should say it will be one of the bestof the series . The Chairman for the evening is Mr . R . Stanley Chandler . On the 29 th ult . a meeting of the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge of West Yorkshire was held at the Masonic Rooms , Doncaster , for the purpose of consecrating

a new lodge called the Danum Lodge of Mark Master Masons . Brethren vvere present from Sheffield , Leeds , Wakefield , Barnsley , Crowle , York , Grimsby , & c , about 60 being in attendance . The ceremony of consecration vvas performed by the R . W . P . G . M . of West Yorkshire , Bro . Chas . Letch Mason , P . M ., assisted by Bro . the Earl of Euston , S . G . W ., and others . The brethren afterwards dined together , Bro . Mason presiding .

The Academy of Art and Science , Frentano , in Naples , under the direct patronage of their Majesties the King of Italy and the Emperor of Brazil , has awarded the golden medal , first-class , with crown and ribbon , to Miss Annie E . Holden , daughter of Mr . Angus Holden , of Bradford , for her artistic services in singing , rendered for benevolent and charitable purposes , and has

at the same time elected her an honorary member of the said academy . Mr . Yorke Stephens will commence his third provincial tour on Monday next with the new drama " True Heart , " by Mr . Henry Byatt ( author of " The Brothers , " & c ) , originally produced at Leamington vvith great success . The company will be a powerful one , and

special scenery has been painted by Mr . Richard Douglas . On account of the great success which attended the production of " The Policeman , " at Terry ' s Theatre , it has been determined to repeat the performance on Tuesday afternoon , March 5 th , and thus afford an opportunity to the vast number of persons vvho were unable to obtain

admission on the last occasion , to now witness Messrs . Helmore and Phillpott's Farcical Rally . Mr . Halliwell Phillips ' s sealed legacy to the trustees of Shakspere ' s birthplace was found on Wednesday to consist of 1 S 6 volumes , handsomely bound , consisting for the most part of manuscript notes and ancient black letter extracts , intended to illustrate the works of the

Vice-President of the Hospital . We gather from the report that the income of the Institution is about £ 7000 . and the expenditure about £ 10 , 000 , and as the Hospital is the only one in the Metropolis vvhich is especially available by trade employees , school teachers , governesses ,

clerks , & c , vvho , on payment of a small fee ( 3 guineas ) , are treated for as long a time as may be necessary vvith the utmost skill and care . It is certainly an Institution which deserves a generous measure of support , and we strongly recommend it to the notice of our readers and the public generally .

Bro . General Lord Wolseley presided at the annual meeting , on the Sth inst ., of the West Greenwich Working Lads' Institute and Ragged School , and in the course of his address , laid particular stress on the necessity for physical training . The Prince of Wales has contributed 100 guineas towards the fund , which is being raised for adapting Norwich Castle and its adjacent buildings to receive the

collections of the Norfolk and Norwich Museums , and to provide a gallery for the exhibition of paintings and other works of art . Previous to his departure for South Australia , Bro . the Earl of Kintore will be entertained at a farewell dinner by the members of the Junior Constitutional Club , of whose Committee he has been chairman since its foundation . Monday , the 25 th inst ., is the day chosen for the banquet .

I tie Duchess of Albany , who has been staying in Germany for some time past , arrived in London on Friday , the Sth inst ., and at once drove to Buckingham Palace . The following day her Royal Highness left London for Ooborne , on a visit to her Majesty . Bro . Lord Mayor Whitehead has just been presented by the King of Servia with the insignia of the

Grand Cordon of the Royal Order of St . Saoa , in recognition of his services in the cause of education . The 14 th ordinary general meeting of the shareholders of Messrs . Perry and Company , Limited , will be held at the company's offices , 3 6 , Lancaster-street , Birmingham , on Tuesday , lhe 19 th instant , when the Directors will present their report ot the operations for the past year , and other business will be transacted . The audited statement of accounts shows that after satisfying every liability ,

the profits for the year ended the 31 st December last , amounted to £ 14 , 746 16 s . Sd ., and out of this the Directors recommend a dividend of 2 . { - per cent ., making 5 per cent , for the year on preference shares , and 7 per cent , for the six months , making vvith the interim dividend of 3 per cent , paid already , a total of 10 per cent , for the year on ordinary shares , the amounts thus appropriated , and a

further £ 2500 carried to the reserve account ( and thus raising it to £ 4 8 , 000 ) , there will remain a balance to be carried forward , with the next year ' s profit and IOFS account ° f £ ' 55 9 s . Sd . This shows that the company is in a very flourishing condition . The Duke of Cambridge has consented to preside at the annual festival vvhich will be held at the Hotel Metropole on the 2 nd April next in aid of the Royal

Westminster Opthalmic Hospital . The institution is greatly in need of funds , and an urgent appeal will be made on the occasion . Parliament will re-assemble for the dispatch of business , on Thursday next , the 21 st instant , and the Prime Minister and the First Lord of the Treasury have issued their invitations for the Ministerial banquets , vvhich are usually held the evening previous to the meeting .

On Tuesday , the Mayor of Hartlepool received a communication to the effect that Prince Albert Victor of Wales has generously acceeded to the request that he will visit the town and open the new municipal buildings . The day fixed for the ceremony , which vvil be observed as a general holiday , is the ist ot May . The Prince of Wales , who was accompanied b y Prince George of VVales , and attended by Lord A .

Somerset and Col . Stanley Clarke , left London for the Riviera on Tuesday . His Royal Highness travelled by the South Eastern Railway and vvas met at Charing Cross Station by Bro . Sir Edward Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., and vvas accompanied on his journey as far as Paris by Bro . Sir Arthur Sullivan , and Mr . R . Sassoon . The Prince of Wales will take up his quarters at the Bristol during his brief stay in Paris , vvhich he will leave to-day ( Friday ) and will remain about three weeks in the Riviera .

THE SPORTSMAN ' S EXHIBITION . —This popular fixture is this year arranged to open on April 4 th at the nevv "Central Hall , " Holborn , W . C . ( opposite the Inns of Court Hotel ) , and in its new locale will doubtless attract a great many more visitors even than in former years . There is no doubt that for an exhibition of this class a hall easy of approach is a great desideratum , and this

point has now been fully met , as the "Central Hall" is within easy walking distance either of the City or the West End , and is in direct omnibus communication with every railway terminus in London , and the increased facilities of approach are sure to have a most beneficial

effect on the attendance . The "Central Hall has been designed especially vvith a view to the ; requirements of trade exhibitions , and is lighted throughout by electricity . Mr . Harry Etherington , the original promoter , is still the manager , and the offices of the exhibition are 43 , Nevv Oxford-street , VV . C .

The Lecture is a survival of an old form of " working , " now obsolete , and vvas given to illustrate customs and ceremonies of the past now but little known , save amongst Masonic archaeologists .

Sunday last , the ist inst ., was the 49 th anniversary of the Queen ' s marriage with the late Prince Consort , who died on the 14 th December , 1 S 61 , so that her Majesty has been a widow for upwards of 27 years . The ball held at the St . George ' s Hall , Stonehouse , on the 6 th inst ., in aid of the Mark Masonic Benevolent Fund , was very attractive . This is the second

vvhich has been held under the direction of a committee at the invitation of Bro . Crouch , whose zeal for Mark Masonry is well known throughout the Western Counties . The committee vvere successful last year in securing for Lodge Friendship a Life-Governorship of the Fund , and the committee have every reason to believe that they will be able thisyear to place Mark Lodge Sincerity in a similar position . mirrors , plants , Sic . On the 27 th ult ., at the Grosvenor Hotel , Blackburn , in connection vvith the Lodge of United Brethren , Bro . Chas . Hindle was installed as Worshipful Master by Bro . T . T . Mercer , P . M . ; and Bro . W . Lamb , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., invested a number of officers . A supper vvas also provided , and an interesting programme rendered .

On the 29 th ult . a meeting of the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge of West Yorkshire was held at the Masonic Rooms , Doncaster , for the purpose of consecrating

a new lodge called the Danum Lodge of Mark Master Masons . Brethren vvere present from Sheffield , Leeds , Wakefield , Barnsley , Crowle , York , Grimsby , & c , about 60 being in attendance . The brethren afterwards dined together , Bro . Mason presiding .

The Academy of Art and Science , Frentano , in Naples , under the direct patronage of their Majesties the King of Italy and the Emperor of Brazil , has awarded the golden medal , first-class , with crown and ribbon , to Miss Annie E . Holden , daughter of Mr . Angus Holden , of Bradford , for her artistic services in singing , rendered for benevolent and charitable purposes , and has

at the same time elected her an honorary member of the said academy . Mr . Yorke Stephens will commence his third provincial tour on Monday next with the new drama " True Heart , " by Mr . Henry Byatt ( author of " The Brothers , " & c ) , originally produced at Leamington vvith great success . The company will be a powerful one , and

special scenery has been painted by Mr . Richard Douglas . On account of the great success which attended the production of " The Policeman , " at Terry ' s Theatre , it has been determined to repeat the performance on Tuesday afternoon , March 5 th , and thus afford an opportunity to the vast number of persons vvho were unable to obtain

admission on the last occasion , to now witness Messrs . Helmore and Phillpott's Farcical Rally . Mr . Halliwell Phillips ' s sealed legacy to the trustees of Shakspere ' s birthplace was found on Wednesday to consist of 1 S 6 volumes , handsomely bound , consisting for the most part of manuscript notes and ancient black letter extracts , intended to illustrate the works of the
