his endeavour to fulfil the duties to the satisfation of the brethren . During the evening an excellent concert was given by the Akando Glee Singers , and the retiring Stewards , Bros . King and Waddington , were heartily thanked for th ? perfect , ess of their arrangements for the comfort of the brethren .

CHERTSEY . Abbey Lodge ( No . 2120 ) . —On Wednesday evening , the 6 th inst ., there was one of the most numerous assemblages of brethren that has ever taken place in the Masonic Hall , the occasion being to assist in the installation of Bro . Thomas Dix as W . M . of the lodge for the ensuing year . The duties of the I . P . M ., Bro . C Welch ,

were well and thoughtfully carried out , indeed , so much so that he received the praise of Bro . Col . Noel Money , Prov . G . M . It should be here stated that , according to routine , the Master ' s chair should this year be occupied by Bro . James Webb , but as he at the present time holds the office of W . M . of the Bisley Lodge , he could not accept both honours without a special dispensation from the G . M . The

The banquet took place at six o ' clock and was served in Bro . Mason ' s very best style , and this is saying a good deal . Besides the officers mentioned above , there were also

"The Provincial Grand Master" was replied to by the Prov . G . M ., and that of "The Deputy Prov . G . M ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " by Bro . Tyler .

The toast of " The Worshipful Master was proposed by the l . P . M ., the W . M . responding in suitable terms . "The Visitors" was then proposed by the W . M ., and responded to by Bro . Lancaster , P . P . G . S . B ., while that of "The Charities " was responded to Bro . A . VV . Crewdson , P . M .

The next toast was that of "ihe Treasurer and Secretary , " which was responded to by Bros . Leigh Bennett , P . M ., P . P . J . G . W ., and H . J . Bidwell , P . M ., P . P . G . D . C . Officers had proved themselves worthy brethren , and had rendered

M . of Cornwall , " to which Bro . Geo . Perkins , VV . M . 1205 , replied . Bro . R . Robinson Rodd , jun ., S . W ., then' proposed

"The Health of the W . M . " He said that Bro . 5 . H . R . Gibbens had proved himself a good and worthy Mason , and had carried out his work earnestly and thoroughly . He was echoing not only the sentiments of the Past Masters ond officers , but all the members of the lodge , in expressing a hope that he would have a most successful year of office . The W . M ., who was most cordally received , in reply ,

said he trusted they were banded together for the good of the Order . He would do his best to rule the lodge impartially , having the interests of Masonry at heart . In submitting the toast of " The Past Masters , " Bro . Gib . bens associating the name of Bro . C . Luke , the I . P . M ., with the toast , congratulated him on the zeal and ability which he had shown during his . year of office . He had no doubt

the Past Masters would assist him to maintain the reputation and honour of the lodge . Bros . C Luke , I . P . M ., and VV . J . Parson P . M ., acknowledged the toast . Bro . S . Jew , P . M ., P . P . G . Treas ., in submitting "The Healths of the Treasurer and Secretary , " said fie would not sav thev were the best in the country , but he could

confidentially say they could not be excelled . As one who had filled the office of Treasurer for many years , he could say there was a more capable man than Bro . Spinney . With regard to the indefatigable Secretary there was no doubt whatever that it was due to his personal influence and energy that the lodge was raised to its present prestige . Bro . A . W . Spinney , as Treasurer , said he was pleased

to be able to report a satisfactory balance-sheet . Bro . C . II . Cooper , in reply , hoped , with all the visiting brethren , that the VV . M . would have a happy , successful , and prosperous year of office . Other toasts followed .

William Vernon proposed the toast of " The Worshipful Master , Bro . R . T . Hardy , " to whose personal character outside the lodge and his worth in Masonry he bore unqualified testimony , at the same time expressing his gratification at seeing him presiding over the lodge , in

which he would at once have some work to do . The high estimation in which Bro . Hardy is held was shown by the thorough heartiness with which the toast was received . The W . M ., having responded , proposed the toast of "The Visiting Brethren " ( taken early on account of some having to leave ) , Bros . Cull , Walters , Howson , and Kendrick responded . The toast Hst was then proceeded with in due course , and a most enjoyable evening spent .

Z ., " drew attention to the able and energetic work of Comp . Wyer for two years . He was willing at all times , and a man who would be a credit to any chapter . On that evening his careful work had been particularly noticeable . i

, omp . wyer suitably responded , and then propose "The H . and J ., " eulogising their past labours , and expressing a hope that they might have a good year in then new offices . Comps . J . W . Folkard , H ., and Harvey , J ,, made effective and suitable speeches in reply , thanking ' members for the confidence reposed in them . The M . E . Z . said that , while it was necessary to have new

blood into any body , it was unusually satisfactory to have such exaltees as Comp . Rafferty . He came as a well recommended candidate , and had paid great attention to the working . He wished him all success . Comp . J . Rafferty made an interesting reply , saying how glad he was to be among them on that occasion . He hope " to be a credit to the chapter . The M . E . Z . proposed " The Treasurer and S . E ., " re- ' ' ring to their respective labours , Comp . A . Robertson , Treasurer , said that , financial ^ the chapter was a success , as it was in everything else .

his endeavour to fulfil the duties to the satisfation of the brethren . During the evening an excellent concert was given by the Akando Glee Singers , and the retiring Stewards , Bros . King and Waddington , were heartily thanked for th ? perfect , ess of their arrangements for the comfort of the brethren .

CHERTSEY . Abbey Lodge ( No . 2120 ) . —On Wednesday evening , the 6 th inst ., there was one of the most numerous assemblages of brethren that has ever taken place in the Masonic Hall , the occasion being to assist in the installation of Bro . Thomas Dix as W . M . of the lodge for the ensuing year . The duties of the I . P . M ., Bro . C Welch ,

were well and thoughtfully carried out , indeed , so much so that he received the praise of Bro . Col . Noel Money , Prov . G . M . It should be here stated that , according to routine , the Master ' s chair should this year be occupied by Bro . James Webb , but as he at the present time holds the office of W . M . of the Bisley Lodge , he could not accept both honours without a special dispensation from the G . M . The

The toast of " The Worshipful Master was proposed by the l . P . M ., the W . M . responding in suitable terms . "The Visitors" was then proposed by the W . M ., and responded to by Bro . "The Health of the W . M . " He said that Bro . 5 . H . R . Gibbens had proved himself a good and worthy Mason , and had carried out his work earnestly and thoroughly . He was echoing not only the sentiments of the Past Masters ond officers , but all the members of the lodge , in expressing a hope that he would have a most successful year of office . The W . M ., who was most cordally received , in reply ,

said he trusted they were banded together for the good of the Order . He would do his best to rule the lodge impartially , having the interests of Masonry at heart . In submitting the toast of " The Past Masters , " Bro . Gib . bens associating the name of Bro . C . Luke , the I . P . M ., with the toast , congratulated him on the zeal and ability which he had shown during his . year of office . He had no doubt

confidentially say they could not be excelled . As one who had filled the office of Treasurer for many years , he could say there was a more capable man than Bro . Spinney . With regard to the indefatigable Secretary there was no doubt whatever that it was due to his personal influence and energy that the lodge was raised to its present prestige . Bro . A . W . Spinney , as Treasurer , said he was pleased

to be able to report a satisfactory balance-sheet . Bro . C . II . Cooper , in reply , hoped , with all the visiting brethren , that the VV . M . would have a happy , successful , and prosperous year of office . Other toasts followed .

Hardy , " to whose personal character outside the lodge and his worth in Masonry he bore unqualified testimony , at the same time expressing his gratification at seeing him presiding over the lodge , in

which he would at once have some work to do . The high estimation in which Bro . Hardy is held was shown by the thorough heartiness with which the toast was received . The W . M ., having responded , proposed the toast of "The Visiting Brethren " ( taken early on account of some having to leave ) , Bros . Cull , Walters , Howson , and Kendrick responded . The toast Hst was then proceeded with in due course , and a most enjoyable evening spent .

blood into any body , it was unusually satisfactory to have such exaltees as Comp . Rafferty . He came as a well recommended candidate , and had paid great attention to the working . He wished him all success . Comp . J . Rafferty made an interesting reply , saying how glad he was to be among them on that occasion . He hope " to be a credit to the chapter . The M . E .
