Masonic Notes .

The Special General Meeting ot the Governors of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution was held at Freemasons' Hall on Wednesday under the presidency

of Bro . J . A , Farnfield , Past A . G . D . C , Treasurer of the Institution . There was a very full attendance , but the suggested addition to the rule confe rring certain voting privileges on lodges , chapters , and other Masonic bodies was not brought forward , and the only

Masonic Notes.

result of the meeting was that a resolution was passed giving the Committee of Management power to fill vacancies on the House and Finance Committees as they may occur . This resolution will be submitted for the approval of Grand Lodge at the Quarterly Communication in March .

The regular meeting of the Committee of Management was held at the same place on the same day , and under the presidency of the same brother , and it was resolved that five additional annuities should be created on the Male Fund , raising the total of the

Male Annuitants to 200 . At the same time the lists of candidates were settled , the number on the Male Fund being set down at 61 , and on the Widows' Fund at 51 . The following vacancies were declared , namel y , on the Male Fund , 14 immediate , including the five additional

and the three deferred , or together 17 ; and on the Widows' Fund , seven immediate , and three deferred , Thus , of the present total of 112 candidates , there can be elected in May next only 27 . * * *

Very deep and general regret will be felt at the announcement , on the nth instant , of the sudden death of Bro . Col . Gerard Noel Money , C . B ., Provincial Grand Master , Grand Superintendent , and Provincial Grand Mark Master foi Surrey . Col . Money had seen a great deal of service , having served in the

second Burmese War ( 1853-4 ) , at tne sieges of Delhi and Lucknow , and in other operations during the Indian Mutiny , in the Cabul campaign of 1879-80 , and with Bro . General Lord Roberts ' s column that marched from Cabul to Candahar . He had received , in addition to the Companionship of the Bath , four war medals ,

with six clasps , and had been repeatedly mentioned in despatches . For the last four years he had been a conspicuous figure in Masonry , and had not onl y taken a very active part in the most important of Provincial and lodge functions , but last year was Chairman at the Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution ' ,

his last appearance ' at a Masonic gathering , so far as we know , having been at the installation meeting of the Savage Club Lodge on Tuesday , the 5 th instant . His loss will be severely felt by our Surrey brethren , to whom he had greatly endeared himself by hi « geniality and kindness , and for whose ability as a ruler they had the greatest respect . Our deceased brother

was a very intimate friend of the late Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , G . Secretary , and , like him , was a member of her Majesty ' s Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms . We tender our respectful sympathy to the family and friends of our deceased brother . The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon , a report of which , with a list of brethren present , will appear in next week's issue .

» » » We feel sure that our readers will fully sympathise with the widow and friends of Bro . James Salmon , A . G . D . C . of England , and a prominent member of the Craft in the Provinces of Cheshire and North Wales

in the loss they have just sustained by his death . Bro . Salmon , both as a citizen and a Mason , was highly respected by all who had the privilege of his acquaintance . He was one of the most zealous members of our Order in Cheshire , and the congratulations he received on all sides when in April last his Royal

Highness , the M . W . Grand Master , was pleased to bestow upon him the purple ot Grand Lodge , bore eloquent testimony to his merits . We unite with all who knew him in offering our sincere and respectful condolence to the widow and friends who are mourning his loss .

» As will be seen from the report we publish elsewhere , the annual meeting of the Drury Lane Lodge , No . 2127 , on Tuesday , the 12 th instant , passed off , as usual , most successfully , and Bro . Oscar Barrett , the newly-installed W . M ., may congratulate himself on

an inauguration of his year of office not less brilliant than has been the lot of even the most distinguished among his predecessors in the chair of this influential and popular lodge . There is , of course , no doubt whatever that a great part of this success is due to the splendid arrangements made by Bro . J . H . Matthews ,

Past D . G . D . C ., but the general popularity of the lodge itself , of the founders , and of the new W . M ., and the deep interest which is taken in everything connected with the drama , were not without their influence . At all events , the meeting passed off splendidl y , and we congratulate the ludge on having added one more to the list of ib numerous installation triumphs .
