CONSECRATION OF THE TOOWONG LODGE , No . 2306 . The consecration and constitution of a new lodge , at Toowang , Queensland , working under the United Grand Lodge of England , took place on January gth , at the Toowong School of Arts , in the presence of So or 90 brethren , representing a large number of lodges . The new upper room at the Toowong School of Arts has

been leased by the members of the Toowong Lodge from the School of Arts Committee for two years , and has been fitted up as a permanent lodge room in a singularly handsome style , at the expense of the new Master . The ceremonies began shortly before 8 o ' clock by the announcement of the District Grand Master of Oueensland ( the Hon . A . C . Gregory , C . G . M ., M . L . C ) and the

Officers of the District Grand Lodge . They were received , and the D . M . G . at one took his seat on the dais . efficiently rendered by a small choir , under the direction of Bros . S . Kaye and P . Atkinson , D . G . Organist . The lodge having been constituted according , to ancient form , the installation of the W . M . elect , Bro . Richard Gailey , was proceeded with and completed , and subsequently the newly-installed Master , assisted by Bro . Bar nett , invested those officers of the lodge who were present .

The following is a complete list of the officers : Bros . J . VV . Stack , S . W . ; j . A . Hamilton , J . W . ; VV . Kitson Batley , Sec . ; S . Kaye , Org . ; the Hon . W . H . Wilson , M . L . C , S . D . ; F . D . G . Stanley , J . D . ; W . A . Johnson , I . G . ; and A . Harlen , Tyler . The final charge was finely delivered by Bro . Barnett , whose excellent elocution materially contributed to the success of the ceremony .

At the conclusion of the ceremony an adjournment was made to the large hall , where a sumptuous banquet was served . After the usual loyal toasts , " The Health of the D . G . M . of the English Constitution " was proposed by the WORSHIPFUL MASTER . The toast was enthusiastically honoured , and in rising to

respond , Bro . the Hon . A . C . GREGORY was again warmly greeted . In responding he referred to the difference between Masonry in the early days of the colony , when it was with difficulty one lodge could be maintained , and Masonry at the present time , when in the suburbs lodges were being formed as strong , if not stronger , than the lodges in the early days . He congratulated the Toowong

Lodge on possessing such a fine muster-roll of good and earnest / Masons , and hoped that the success of its future career would fully realise the most sanguine expectations . In response to the toast of " The D . G . M . of the Scottish , and the P . G . M . of the Irish Constitution , " Bro . T . UNMACK , P . G . M . of the I . C ., replied . He had been greatly impressed by the manner in which the ceremony

had been carried out . There was one point which had already been touched upon , and which he thought of the greatest importance to Masons in general . It was the remark that quality not quantity should be the aim of every lodge . Too much care could not be exercised in admission into the Craft , and all brethren should pride themselves upon the strength of their efficiency rather than

of their numbers . Suburban lodges were a great convenience to brethren , who often found it difficult to go all the way into town of an evening , and he hoped they would continue . A healthy spirit of emulation would be engendered , and the Craft would greatly benefit by it . The toast of "The W . M . " was very warmly received , and was responded to by Bro . R . GAILEY . In the course

of his remarks he said that on the occasion of the next meeting of the lodge he would be allowed to hand over to the custody of the officers all the furniture , ornaments , & c , of the lodge room , so that the lodge might start free of debt . He hoped that when he did so lhe brethren would accept the gift and acknowledge it by using the articles well and faithfully , in honour of the Craft . He

thanked the . many visiting brethren for attending , and hoped that the sentiments they had expressed for the success of the Toowong Lodge would be realised . The toast of " The Visiting Brethren " was replied to by Bro . MacDonnell , P . D . G . M . ; Bro . J . D . Reeve , P . M . of the . Victoria Lodge ; Bro . the Hon . T .

Macdonald-Paterson , M . L . C . ; Bro . A . M'Nish Fraser , of the Albion Lodge ; Bro . A . Morgan , M . L . A . of the Warwick Lodge ; Bro . J . T . Briggs , P . M . of the Queensland Lodge , Ipswich ; and Bro . J . B . Dixon , P . P . G . P ., of Durham , England . The Tyler's toast on this occasion , proposed by the J . W ., closed the list .

ALEXANDRIA . —Zetland Lodge ( No . 1157 , E . C ) . —The regular monthly meeting of this lodge was held on the 12 th ult ,, in the new Masonic Hall , Okella Ratib Pascha . TheW . M ., Bro . Peter Towrest , occupied the chair , supported by the officers and an unusual large number of members and visitors , the following lodges being represented : Bulwer , 106 S , Brownrigg of Unity ,

1424 , Huyshe , 1099 , Union of Malta , 407 , Wayfarers , 1926 , Inhabitants , 153 ( E . C ) , Albert Edward , 707 ( S . C ) , Stella d'Alessandria ( Arabic ) , and Throva Pompeia ( Italian ) . The preliminary business of reading the minutes being disposed of , the VV . M . announced that theprincipal business of the evening was the presentation of a Past Master's jewel to the l . P . M ., Bro . Sergt .-Major G . F . Hathaway ,

O . S . C ., as a mark of the appreciation on the part of the members of the manner in which he had performed his duties during his year of office . Tho jewel , which was of very handsome design , and an exquisite specimen of the goldsmiths' art , manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , London , bore the following inscription : " Presented to W . Bro . George Faulkner Hathaway , P . M ., as a mark of

esteem and regard by the members of Zetland Lodge , No . 1157 , Alexandria , Egypt , 1 S 88 . " It was presented by Bro . Towrest , VV . M ., who , in felicitous terms , complimented our brother on the satisfactory and praiseworthy manner in which he had performed his duties and

completed his term of office . He had made his mark and had secured , what the presentation represented , the esteem and regard of his brethren ; he wished him happiness and pleasure in its use , and they all united in the hope that the G . A . O . T . U . might of his Providence grant him long life and health to wear it .

Bro . Hathaway , in an evidently feeling manner , thanked the lodge most heartily for the handsome memento of their good feeling just manifested . He felt it almost impossible to make a speech or describe' his feelings . His heart failed him in the attempt . The words of the VV . M ., although few , had been pointed and forceful , and every syllable has gone direct to his heart . He was confident

they expressed the sincere and unanimous wish of the brethren . It would be his constant aim to merit a continuance of their favourable opinion . He should ever wear the jewel with pride and satisfaction . He had tried always to do his duty , remembering that fidelity to principle brought the sure reward of a good conscience . He urged

the members to activity , and counselled those who were ambitious for office to thoroughly prepare themselves in their present stations for all the possibilities of preferment . He wished them and the lodge success and blessing , and said he trusted that , when their duties here should be completed and T . G . A . O . T . U . should call them to the rest

above , no cloud might enshroud their Masonic fame or taint rest upon the memories of the past . Bro . Wicklen , R . VV . M . 707 , wished to add afew words in support of what had already been said . He had found him whom they had met to honour a true and constant brother and friend and a most willing helper , and he was sure the lodge had done well in recognising such service ,

and he had the greatest pleasure in joining in the expression of their good wishes . Bro . Frederick Warwick , l . P . M . 707 ( S . C . ) referred to the invaluable assistance rendered by their brother to the Scotch lodge ; his constant attendance , and unfailing willingness to serve any office or perform any duty . He thought that the lodge had only just been in time , for ,

had they much longer delayed , the Scotch brethren might have been tempted to present him with a jewel themselves . The business being concluded , " Hearty good wishes " were tendered from the lodges represented . The lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to

the banqueting room , where a cold collation was served . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , and a very pleasant evening was spent , the party breaking up near midnight gratified at the opportunity afforded them of shewing honour to a highly-esteemed and zealous ruler of the Craft .

grace the occasion . Covers were laid for nearly 80 guests . At the conclusion of the elegant and most splendid repast , superintended by Bros . Buttrick , D . hours of the morning . The following were among the ladies present : Mesdames R . Campbell , C . A . Williams , E . R . Davison , Z . A . Williams , B . Dawodu , J . A . Savage , F . G . Joaquin , H . Coker , F . and H . Benjamin , and others . Too much cannot be said with regard to the orderly manner in which things were conducted , not to mention the pains taken by the host , as also the Committee appointed for the management of all the proceedings of both banquet and soiree . To Bro . Buttrick , in particular , for the exertion manifested towards bringing the whole affair to a most paramount success .

MHOW . —Malwa Chapter ( C . I ., No . 1994 ) . The installation of Principals took place at Bombay , on December 22 nd last , and gathered a special interest from the fact that the chapter had , with difficulty , been kept going during the past year . Comp . Malranie , Z ., however , had determined it should not expire , and , in spite of the departure of many members , just managed to keep it alive , Now several new members have joined , and there is every prospect of a more prosperous term . The new Principals are Comps . Rev . A . H . Etty , Z . ; Sergt . F . H . Hall , H . ; and Khan Bahadur Sorabjee , J . They were installed by Comp . Proctor , who well fulfilled the ceremony . Comp . Etty had previously received the Degree of " Ex . Monitor , " being an English companion , and not , therefore , having received it before .

The Craft lodges in Mhow ( English , Malwa , and Scotch , St . Paul ) held a joint meeting on St . John ' s Day , when the two W . M . ' s were severally installed . They were Bro . Willis , W . M . of the English lodge , who nominated and invested Bro . Etty as Chaplain , and Bros . Cabbon and AdsheadasS . W . andJ . W . ; and Hall , VV . M . of theScotch lodge , who nominated and invested Bros . 1 . C Burton MH

Morevvanji hdalji as his S . W . and J . W . The brethren of both lodges had previously attended a special service in the Station Church , conducted by Bro Etty , P . M ., P . D . G . C of Bengal , whose sermon on this occasion we give in another column . The alms collected were given to the Mhow Native Christian Church of E . Orphanage .

efficiently rendered by a small choir , under the direction of Bros .

Orphanage .
