THE UNEMPLOYED IN EAST LONDON . —At a time when much thought is being given to this matter , a practical suggestion may be of service . Last year more than £ 300 , 000 worth of foreign matches were purchased by inconsiderate consumers in this country , so true is it
that " evil is wrought by want of thought , as well as want of heart . " If all consumers would purchase Bryant and May ' s Matches , that firm would be enabled to pay £ 1000 a week more in wages , and large numbers of the unemployed of East London would thus be provided with work , instead swellining the ranks of pauperism . —ADVT .

regular , and by implication , that certain other bodies of a similar character were irregular . Our belief is that a Grand Lodge has nothing whatever to do with any other Degrees than those of Craft Masonry , the Degree of the Royal Arch being necessarily included . This will give pleasure to a large circle , should the information prove correct . It is said many of the senior brethren are averse to the graceful art of dancing , but then the younger men delight in the whirl of the intoxicating waltz , and expect that they will win the day .
The Lord Mayor , Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Gray , and Bro . Sheriff Newton have accepted invitations to dine with the Markets' Committee at the Guildhall Tavern on Wednesday , the 27 th instant . MASONIC PRESENTATION . —The Ship and Turtle , Leadenhall-street , was the scene of a goodly gathering of the members of the Temple Lodge , No . 101
on Tuesday , the 5 th inst ., when Bro . J . Bond , proprietor of the Station Tavern , Camberwell New-road , was presented with a gratifying testimonial . This consisted of a gold decoration bearing tne silver cross keys , emblematic of the office of Treasurer , which Bro . Bond has held for more than 20 years . The following is the inscription : " Presented to Bro . fas . Bond , P . M ., in recognition of his

Scottish Freemasonry in India , has caused through his secretary a circular to be issued to all the Masonic lodges in India under his jurisdiction to go into Masonic mourning until March 31 next , as a mark of respect to the memory of Bro . J . Y . Lang , Depute Grand Master , " whose genial qualities and exalted principles endeared him to all . " We learn that H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , District
Grand Master of Bombay and its Territories , sent a telegram Irom an out-station to Sir Henry Morland , expressing his grief and sympathy with the Grand Lodge in the heavy loss sustained by them in the sad death of Bro . Lang , Depute Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry in India . Bro . Lord Herschell has returned from India .
Bro . Sir Somers Vine , Assistant Secretary of the Imperial Institute , arrived at Brisbane on Monday , and was expected to leave in the course of the week forSyoney , Melbourne , and Adelaide . THE BOHEMIANS . —The social club , as it is termed , apparently bids fair to be the club of the future , the latest addition being the Bohemians , in connection with the Bohemian Musical Society , who held their opening dinner on Wednesday night , at the Club-house , in Oxfordstreet , with Mr . Charles Williams in the chair , supported by Brcs . Lord Wolseley , General Sir Redvers Buller , Co ! .
Clerke , and several other military men . Lord Wolseley , in responding for " The Army , Navy , and Auxiliary Forces , " urged those opinions lor holding which , as he said , he and others had been called alarmists and panicmongers . A ietter was read from Lord Charles Beresford , who had lo attend , by Royal command , at the Colonial Institute . " Success to the Club " was proposed by Gen .
Sir R . Buller , and acknowledged by Col . Hare , the Secretary . " The Visitors" was responded toby Col . Gouraud . The club has been very successlully launched , and is in a district where the want of one has long been felt . It is intended to hold weekly concerts and periodical soirees , to which members can introduce ladies of their family . The
grand salon is a hne room , and , though not very lofty , seems well adapted for small musical entertainments , and as the direction of these is entrusted to that veteran Bohemian , Bro . E . J .
