who would rather every Masonic book and periodical were burnt than that a word about our doings should appear in print . But they constitute only a very small minority , the bulk of the brethren becoming daily more and more curious to read about our history and customs , and the patronage of all kinds of Masonic literature being commensurately greater . Apart from
the knowledge which it would be an act of disloyalty to his obligation for a Mason to divulge , there is a mass of Masonic literature which they who wish may read , and Bro . PARKER is probably not far out in his reckoning when he sets down the number ot works in which the object and

The musical arrangements , which were excellent , were under the direction of Bro . Wilkinson , assisted by Bros . Bryan , P . P . G . Org ., J . Sawyer , Hobart , and Marsden ,
The brethren having assembled in the lodge room , the Consecrating Officer , with his assistant officers , together with such other Prov . Grand Officers as were present , entered in procession , when the Presiding Officer took the chair and appointed his temporary officers as follows : Bros . J . H . Barrow , P . P . G . D ., S . The D . of C . then addressed the Consecrating Officer , and , by his direction , arranged the founders of tne new lodge in order , and then read the petition and the warrant , which had been granted by the M . W . G . M ., authorising the formation of the Scarisbrick Lodge , in answer to the prayer of the petition , and designating Bros . Herbert Kidson , P . M . 613 , VV . M . ; John B . Tne CONSECRATING OFFICER then enquired of the brethren ranged before him whether they approved of the officers named in the warrant ; and the brethren having signified their approval in Masonic form , the CHAPLAIN , at the request of the Presiding Officer , gave an impressive oration , expatiating on the leading principles upon which the Craft is founded , and of the brilliant illustration which those principles receive in the benevolent exercise of Masonic Charity , and the pure and disinterested
policy which form the basis of unanimity and goodwill ; and concluded by exhorting the members of the lodge now consecrated ever to strive and maintain these princip les in their active exercise and integrity , and trusted that each of its members would be a faithful exponent of the moral features of which he had briefly reminded them , and thus be as faithful in their transmission of these principles to posterity as antiquity had been faithful to them .
The Presiding Officer then proceeded to dedicate and constitute the lodge , and the ceremony was brought to a close with the final benediction . Bro . H . Kidson , P . M ., W . The Installing Mabter presented the VV . M . with the warrant and Book of Constitutions , and also gave the addresses to the W . M ., Wardens , & c .
The W . M . was appointed unanimously as Charity Representative for the ensuing year ; and we understand the founders have determined to devote the whole of the initiation and joining lees to Charity—thus affording a noble example which other lodges would do well to follow .
Two candidates proposed for initiation and four as joining members . It was announced by the W . M . that the whole of the officers' silver jewels and collars had been presented by Bro . J . Consecration Of The Scarisbrick Lodge, No. 2295, At Southport.
We cannot allow this occasion to pass without remarking upon the admirable way in which Bro . Goodacre performed the very important ceremonies of consecration and installation . All who witnessed it could not fail to be deeply impressed by the perfect and efficient manner in which they were rendered .
At the conclusion of all business , the lodge was closed , and the members with their guests adjourned to the Prince of Wales Hotel , where a most recherche banquet had been prepared by Ero . Wilkinson , the manager . The tables were profusely decorated with roses and other rare flowers and plants , which gave them a most brilliant and picturesque appearance . The usual loyal and Masonic toast list was gone through , and all were heartily given and responded to .
The pleasure of the evening was very greatly enhanced by songs , recitations , and glees ; and a treat was given to all present by a couple of solos on the pianoforte rendered in a masterly manner by Bro . A . E . Bartle . We may remark that the silver working tools and officers' jewels , alluded to above , and which are of exquisite design and workmanship , were specially manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , Little Britain , London , and 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester .
