Both replied , the former speaking of the high position occuoied by Sussex in the Charities . Bro . Wickham , in proposing " The Health of the Worshipful Master , " said he had shown what excellent work he

was capable of doing by his skill that evening , and they would be sure of his d' ing himself credit and bringing credit to the lodge . Bro . Clarke , in responding , said he felt honoured in occupying thc position of Master . He had had 12 years apprenticeship , and knowing he had many good officers , he hoped at the end of his year of office it would be said he

had done his duty to the satisfaction of all . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Health of the Initiate . " They were all pleased to welcome the son of a founder of the lodge , who had always commanded the respect of the brethren .

"The Visitors , " "The Past Masters , " and other toasts followed . The harmony of the lodge was contributed to by Mrs . Galloway and Miss Ada Clarke ( daughter of the W . M . ) , both ladies being in fine voice , the other vocalists being Bros . C . McKenzie and ] . Howe .

Canon Tristram , D . D ., unfurled the ne v banner . The speech of the esteemed canon was remarkable for its historic and Masonic character , and was listened to with the greatest interest . A vote of thanks having been awarded to Bro . the Rev . Canon Tristram , Bio . Barton , P . M ., proposed a vote of thanks to the ofiicers of Prov . Grand Lodge for their attendance , which was se ; onded by Bro . A . Jobling , I . P . M . Bro . Aid . T . G . Mabane , P . J . G . W .,

responded , and Bro . R . Hudson , P . G . S ., presented to the W . M . a cabinet photograph of Bro . Sylvester Reed , of Whitby , who is still living , and was J . W . of the Lion Lodge at the time of the consecration of the Tees Lodge in 1845 . The VV . M . accepted the photograph on behalf of the lodge . Thanks were also passed to thc W . M . for presenting the banner to the lodge , and the lodge was afterwards closed .

'The photograph is from a picture of dc Molai ( taken shortly before his martyrdom ) , which is in the possession of Sir Knight Shanks , and is the only likeness of the Grand Master now extant . |) , j Molai is represented in thc habit of the Order , with the l . alin Cross ( red ) c inspicuous in front , the hands being bound , and crossed on his chest . Clarke , in responding , said he felt honoured in occupying thc position of Master . He had had 12 years apprenticeship , and knowing he had many good officers , he hoped at the end of his year of office it would be said he

had done his duty to the satisfaction of all . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Health of the Initiate . " They were all pleased to welcome the son of a founder of the lodge , who had always commanded the respect of the brethren .
