MASONIC CEREMONIES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA It is not often that the Craft in the cities of the far West have two days of Masonic celebration together , but such was the case on July 17 th and 18 th last , in the City of Nanaimo . On the first-mentioned day , the M . W . G . M ., assisted by other ollieers of the Grand Lodge of British Columbia constituted Doric Lodge ,

No . 18 , and installed the following officers : Bros . W . H . Sandow Perkins , W . M . ; Fred . McBain Young , S . W . ; Robert Scott , J . W . ; Rev . D . A . McRae , Chap . ; M . R . Counter , Treas . ; J . H . Pleace , Sec ; James Crosson , D . of C . ; Wm . H . Morton , S . D . ; ' F . Meakin , J . D . ; Dr . Smith Davis and T . Wylie , Stwds . ; Alex . Anderson , I . After the installation ceremonies , which were performed in a most impressive manner , the W . M ., on behalf of the brethren , presented to Bro . Craig , P . D . D . G . M ., who had occupied the East during the time the lodge had been under dispensation , with a handsome gold watch and chain , suitably engraved , as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by the Craft in Nanaimo , and as a token of their appreciation

•The Iodge was then closed , and the Grand Lodge and visitors were entertained at a banquet in the Windsor Hotel . After full justice had been done to the inner man , Bro . PERKINS , W . wherever Masons are , the daughter of a Mason , the sister of a Mason , the mother and grandmother of Masons , and the supporter and encourager of our Institutions in one of its noblest branches in the motherland , viz ., the Masonic Charities . After this toast the WORSUU'I- UL MASTER proposed "The Health of the M . W . G . M . of the Grand Lodge

of British Columbia . " In replying , the M . W . G . M ., Bro . SIBREE CLARKE , M . He wished Doric Lodge every success and felt sure that if it prospered during the next year as it

had during the one gone by , the first of its existence , it would have nothing to be ashamed of at the next meeting of Grand Lodge . Bro . WOLFE , P . G . M ., also responded in a few wellchosen words . Bro . CRAIG , P . D . D . G . M ., then proposed "The Sister Lodges , " which was ably responded to by many

of the visitors . The next toast on the list was " The Past Masters , " which was proposed by Bro . Rev . D . A . MCRAE , and responded to by Bros . CRAIG , BATE , FRAME , and others . The t 6 ast of " The Visitors " brought a host of able speakers to their feet . Bro . Judge HARRISON , P . J . G . W ., Representative of

the Grand Lodge of England , & c , then rose to his feet , and proposed " The Health and Prosperity of Doric Lodge , " and in a few concise remarks traced the progress of Masonry in British Columbia since the days when he first received light in one of the old Scotch lodges in Victoria , down to the formation of the Grand Lodge of British Columbia in 18 70 , and to

its present prosperous condition . The W . M ., Bro . PERKINS , in responding , thanked the brethren for their attendance , and also the members of Doric Lodge for the honour they had done him in electing him to the chair , and hoped that he would be able to keep Doric Lodge up to the high standard that Masonry had attained elsewhere in British Columbia .

H . PLEACK , Sec , and responded to in a speech full of affection and humour and beautifully combined from Bro . J . E . R . TAGART , Org . The evening was brought to a pleasant close by the

singing of "God Save the Queen" and then"Auld Lang Syne . " Music was furnished by the Corley String Band , and the speeches were interspersed by songs and recitations from many of the brethren . On the second day the M . W . G . M . laid the foundation-stone of a new Presbyterian Church . -Grand Lodge was opened in the Masonic Hall at 3 p . m ., with the following Grand Officers : Bros .
