The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , Bro . E . N . Beningfield was passed to the Second Degree . It was decided that the Iodge shall not meet in J uly , but in October instead . After the name of a

candidate for initiation had been submitted , the lodge was closed . Later in the day the brethren sat down to an excellent dinner , under the presidency of the LP . M ., Bro . Coxon . The usual toasts were given , "The Health of the absent W . M . " being heartily received . The visitors , who responded individually to the toast of their health , expressed themselves as being pleased with what they had witnessed in the lodge and the warm

welcome they had received . The musical portion of the evening's entertainment was ably carried out by Bros . Moore , Beningfield , Kennedy , Wye , and Hipwell . Bro . W . E . Goodwins , Org ., accompanied with his usual ability , and also contributed vocally . A very pleasant evening was spent , and regret was expressed that the VV . M . had unavoidably been detained in the country , and consequently unable to take part in it .

DIDSBURY . Doric Lodge ( No . 2359 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge was held on Saturday , the pth inst . There was a large attendance of brethren as usual . Bro . George Alfred Myers , P . M ., W . M ., presided . The lodge was opened , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Towell presented to the lodge a

lifelike portrait of Bro . Fred . Stretch , P . M ., and Bro . Fred . Stretch presented one of Bro . Towell , both of which were joyfully accepted , as _ being good ornaments to the lodge . The lodge was opened by Bro . J . A . Macnab , VV . M ., supported by his officers , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Trim was invested as Steward , and Bro . Lowe presented with his certificate from Grand Lodge , after which Bro . Coxon was passed to the Second Degree by the VV . M ., the charge being given by Bro . Davey , S . W ., and the second tracing board bv Bro .

Booty , J . VV . Very considerable interest was then given to the meeting by a lecture from Bro . Thos . Holland , P . M . 172 , P . Z ., P . P . G . D . C , on " The Great Pyramid of Egypt in connection with Freemasonry ; its Rituals and Emblems " —a subject on which he had spent considerable time and study . The time at his disposal proved much too short for

the information he had to impart , the completion of the lecture having to bc deferred to a future meeting . A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Bro . Holland for the pleasure he had given the brethren , to which he responded . "Hearty good wishes" having been expressed , thelodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned for refreshment .

The usual Masonic toasts were duly honoured , " The Health of the W . M . " being proposed by Bro . Rice , P . P . G . D ., who congratulated the VV . M . upon the high honour that day conferred upon him , and said he felt sure from his knowledge of Bro . Tonkin that he would be a worthy

successor of a long line of eminent Past Masters who had preceded him in the chair , and had no doubt but that the lodge would prosper under his guidance . The Worshipful Master replied in a few well-chosen words . . ....

REDHILL . Royal Albert Edward Lodge ( No . 1362 ) . —On Saturday , the 2 nd inst ., the members of this lodge held their quarterly meeting in the Market Hall . Bro . VV . Markham , Worshipful Master , took the chair , and the business of the meeting was , after the confirmation of Ihe minutes of the last meeting , " to receive the reports of

the meeting of the Permanent Committee of August ioth and 17 th respectively , relative to the motion of Bro . E . G . Feild , I . P . M ., passed at the last quarterly lodge meeting on June 3 rd : ' That in compliance with the recommendation from the meeting on improvements , it is desirable to form a proper lodge of instruction in connection with this lodge , and that the necessary steps be taken for carrying into effect this proposition . ' To elect a Tyler in place of

Bro . C . K . Heather , resigned , as provided for in Rule 140 of the Book of Constitutions ; that Arthur Room , caretaker , Market Hall , Redhill , aged 22 , be balloted for , and if approved be initiated as Serving Brother in the place of Bro . C . K . Heather , resigned . " After the business of the lodge , the brethren dined together in the Market Hall , refreshments being provided by Bro . W . Laker .

SALFORD . Newall Lodge ( No . 1134 ) . —The regular meet , ing of this lodge was held at Adelphi House , on Tuesday , the 5 th instant . Bro . E . Webb , W . M ., presided . The working tools were presented to the candidate by Bro . T . E . Barker , Sec , and the charge was very impressively given by Bro . J . Robertshaw , P . M . Hro . the Rev . G .

Leighton , at the request of the W . M ., kindly acted as Chaplain . Bro . E . E . Holliday , P . M ., Charity Steward , moved the following resolution , viz .: " That this lodge do present from its general funds the sum of 50 guineas , or such other sum or sums as may be deemed advisable , to the Royal Masonic Institution fur Girls , or such other Masonic Charity or Charities as may be agreed upon by a

majority of the brethren of the lodge then present and voting . " This was seconded by the W . M . Bro . Drury , and was unanimously carried . The usual proclamations were made , and " Hearty good wishes " were tendered by the visitors , and , the business being ended , the lodge was closed .

The brethren- adjourned to the banqueting hall , where an excellent supper , provided by Bro . Turner , the Hall Steward , and Mrs . Turner , awaited them , and to which hearty justice was done . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given in a very hearty manner , and responded to with much heartiness .

"TheNewIy-imtiated Candidate s Health" was proposed by Bro . Hutchinson . Bro . Cawood responded , and expressed the great pleasure it gave him on being admitted a member of the Order . The brethren then parted , having spent a very happy evening .

SOUTHALL . Jersey Lodge ( No . 2163 ) . —A regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Railway Hotel on Monday , the 4 th inst ., when there were present Bros . W . A . Cocks , W . M . ; Howard H . regret that Bro . J . R . Whittle , a candidate for the Third Degree , was unable to be present owing to serious illness . A business engagement also prevented the attendance of Bro . Tidmarsh , P . M ., Prov . J . G . D ., Secretary of thelodge . A hearty vote of sympathy with Bro . Whittle was unanimously passed . The lodge then proceeded to elect a VV . M . for the ensuing year . Bro . Mead , S . W ., not having completed his year in the chair of the Royal Union Lodge

would not stand for election this time , and the choice of the brethren unanimously fell upon Bro . VV . Freemantle , J . W „ who returned thanks for the honour thus conferred upon him . Bro . A . J . Hanson was unanimously re-elected to the office of Treasurer , and Bro . G . L . Duffin to that of Tyler . It was unanimously agreed to present Bro . VV . A . Cocks , the retiring W . M ., with a Past Master's jewel , as a slight recognition of his services , and , on the proposition of Bro .

Mead , S . W ., a sum ot money was voted for that purpose . The visitors tendered " Hearty good wishes , " and the lodge was closed . Refreshment followed labour . The usual loyal toasts were duly honoured . In responding for "The Provincial Grand Officers of Middlesex , " Bro . Howard H . Room , P . G . Sec , regretted he had not been able to attend the meetings of the lodge so

frequently as he could have wished . The chief reason was that they fell on an evening in the week that generally was an inconvenient one for him . However , he knew that the lodge was in good hands . He considered the province exceedingly fortunate in having so distinguished a Mason as Bro . Lord George Hamilton appointed to rule over it . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master was untiring in the discharge of the duties of his office , and the other Provincial Grand Officers were always ready in their respective

positions to accord him their support . At the last Provincial Grand Lodge he was very pleased to see one of the principal collars given to the Secretary of the Jersey Lodge , who well deserved the honour . Bro . Room concluded by expressing his satisfaction at the manner in which the S . W . had retired from the contest in the election of W . V 1 . Other toasts followed , and before the brethren dispersed the W . M . presented each with a portrait of himself taken in Masonic clothing , as a memento of the very pleasant year they had all spent together .

WOLVERHAMPTON . St . Peter ' s Lodge ( No . 419 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , the 7 th inst , at the Stat and Garter Hotel , when there were present Bros . F . T . Beck , W . M . ; E . Berry , S . W . ; T . Seddon , Chap . ; E . F . Coleman , Sec . ; T . C Bigwood , S . D . ; VV . Skett , J . D . ; C . A . Newnham , P . M ., P . G . Treas ., D . C . ; T . E . Lowe , I . to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason , the work being done most admirably by the W . M . Councillor A . Hollingworth was proposed as a candidate for initiation , and the W . M . gave notice to propose Mr . T . Dobbs as a candidate at the next meeting . Several other items of business having been concluded , the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to supper , and afterwards they were treated to a musical evening of a high class , for which special thanks were due to Bros . S . Dean , Org ., and W . Howell .

The Queen has been graciously pleased to send 290 bottles ot wine and 4 oIbs . of cast linen for the use of the patients in the London Hospital . According to previous arrangements , the Queen laid the foundation-stone of the new parish church at Crathie on Monday . Her Majesty was accompanied by the Princess Beatrice and the Duchess of York , the Duke of York , the

Duke and Duchess of Connaught and their children , a " the Princess Victoria of Battenberg . Sir Henry Ponsonby and several members of the household were in attendance , while the clergymen who took part in the ceremony were her Majesty's Chaplains , the Rev . Drs . Norman MacLeod im

and J . M . Mitchell . An address was presented to Queen , who graciously acknowledged it , and also a 'j !? to be used in the function . At the close of the proceedings the Queen and the members of her family . returned to tne Castle . The cost of the church is estimated at between £ 5000 and £ 6000 .

candidate for initiation had been submitted , the lodge was closed . Later in the day the brethren sat down to an excellent dinner , under the presidency of the LP . M ., Bro . Coxon . The usual toasts were given , "The Health of the absent W . M . " being heartily received . The visitors , who responded individually to the toast of their health , expressed themselves as being pleased with what they had witnessed in the lodge and the warm

welcome they had received . The musical portion of the evening's entertainment was ably carried out by Bros . Moore , Beningfield , Kennedy , Wye , and Hipwell . Bro . W . E . Goodwins , Org ., accompanied with his usual ability , and also contributed vocally . A very pleasant evening was spent , and regret was expressed that the VV . M . had unavoidably been detained in the country , and consequently unable to take part in it .

The time at his disposal proved much too short for

majority of the brethren of the lodge then present and voting . " This was seconded by the W . M . Bro . Drury , and was unanimously carried . The usual proclamations were made , and " Hearty good wishes " were tendered by the visitors , and , the business being ended , the lodge was closed .

The brethren- adjourned to the banqueting hall , where an excellent supper , provided by Bro . Turner , the Hall Steward , and Mrs . Turner , awaited them , and to which hearty justice was done . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given in a very hearty manner , and responded to with much heartiness .

"TheNewIy-imtiated Candidate s Health" was proposed by Bro . Hutchinson . Bro . Cawood responded , and expressed the great pleasure it gave him on being admitted a member of the Order . The brethren then parted , having spent a very happy evening .

would not stand for election this time , and the choice of the brethren unanimously fell upon Bro . VV . Freemantle , J . W „ who returned thanks for the honour thus conferred upon him . Bro . A . J . Hanson was unanimously re-elected to the office of Treasurer , and Bro . G . L . Duffin to that of Tyler . It was unanimously agreed to present Bro . VV . A . Cocks , the retiring W . M ., with a Past Master's jewel , as a slight recognition of his services , and , on the proposition of Bro .

Mead , S . W ., a sum ot money was voted for that purpose . The visitors tendered " Hearty good wishes , " and the lodge was closed . Refreshment followed labour . The usual loyal toasts were duly honoured . In responding for "The Provincial Grand Officers of Middlesex , " Bro . Howard H . Room , P . G . Sec , regretted he had not been able to attend the meetings of the lodge so

frequently as he could have wished . The chief reason was that they fell on an evening in the week that generally was an inconvenient one for him . However , he knew that the lodge was in good hands . He considered the province exceedingly fortunate in having so distinguished a Mason as Bro . Lord George Hamilton appointed to rule over it . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master was untiring in the discharge of the duties of his office , and the other Provincial Grand Officers were always ready in their respective

positions to accord him their support . At the last Provincial Grand Lodge he was very pleased to see one of the principal collars given to the Secretary of the Jersey Lodge , who well deserved the honour . Bro . Room concluded by expressing his satisfaction at the manner in which the S . W . had retired from the contest in the election of W . V 1 . Other toasts followed , and before the brethren dispersed the W . M . presented each with a portrait of himself taken in Masonic clothing , as a memento of the very pleasant year they had all spent together .

The Queen has been graciously pleased to send 290 bottles ot wine and 4 oIbs . of cast linen for the use of the patients in the London Hospital . According to previous arrangements , the Queen laid the foundation-stone of the new parish church at Crathie on Monday . Her Majesty was accompanied by the Princess Beatrice and the Duchess of York , the Duke of York , the

Duke and Duchess of Connaught and their children , a " the Princess Victoria of Battenberg . Sir Henry Ponsonby and several members of the household were in attendance , while the clergymen who took part in the ceremony were her Majesty's Chaplains , the Rev . Drs . Norman MacLeod im

and J . M . Mitchell . An address was presented to Queen , who graciously acknowledged it , and also a 'j !? to be used in the function . At the close of the proceedings the Queen and the members of her family . returned to tne Castle . The cost of the church is estimated at between £ 5000 and £ 6000 .
