Fernee and E . T . Brown , Stwds . ; and G . Harrison , Tyler . The usual addresses were then impressively rendered by the Installing Officer , Bro . Kasner , P . M ., to whom a hearty vote of thanks was accorded for his kindness in performing the ceremony . The names of the several gentlemen for

initiation having been received , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial and excellent banquet . " The Queen and the Craft" was , as usual , the first toast , BrorFislier , W . M ., remarking that he esteemed it an honour to have the privilege of proposing that toast at the commencement of the jubilee year of her Majesty's reign . He alluded to some of the beneficial changes that

had taken place during the past 50 years , and said he was convinced that her health would be received that night with the usual hearty welcome , for her Majesty had grown in the esteem and love of her people , who revered her more than ever . "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , " and "The Pro G . M ., the Dep . CM ., and the rest of theGrand Officers , " having been duly honoured , Bro . Acworth ,

I . P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " and observed that the gavel had been entrusted to him to perform one of the most pleasant duties ol an I . P . M ., that of asking the brethren to drink to the health of the brother who presided over them . His words were inadequate to satisfactorily perform the task , but he was sure , from what they had already seen of Bro . Fisher , that they would have a very efficient W . M . during the forthcoming year . They

would remember the time with pleasure when their present W . M . gained the first rung of the ladder , but their pleasure would be three-fold now that he had attained to the dignity of the chair . They all heartily wished him a prosperous and happy year of office , and were convinced that the lodge would continue to progress under his able guidance . Bro . J . W . Fisher , VV . M ., in reply , said he could not express as he would wish his feelings of gratitude for the

manner in which his health had been proposed , and so cordially received by the brethren . The warmth of his reception had done him good , and given him fresh courage . Years ago he had looked forward to the position he now held as the pinnacle of his hopes and desiies . He had looked upon the office of Master of the lodge as a position surrounded wfth a halo of bright beauty and almost of glory ; but he now found that "hope told a flattering

tale , " and that it was more arduous than he had anticipated . To some extent that feeling had remained with him now that he found how ably he was being supported by the brethren , from whom , he was sure , he should receive every comfort and support during his year of office . It was necessary that he should have their help and sympathy , in order to promote a feeling of unanimity in the lodge . He begged them to accept his best thanks , and assured them he would ,

to the utmost of his ability , promote the welfare of Freemasonry in general , and of that lodge in particular . The Worshipful Master next said he had a toast to propose that would at once commend itself to their hearty approval . It was " The Health of Bro . Acworth , the I . P . M . " There had been many distinguished Past Masters in the lodge ; but there was none to whom they were more indebted than Bro . Acworth . The prosperous condition of

the lodge was principally owing to the exertions made by that brother during his term of office . It afforded him sincere pleasure to now present Bro . Ackworth with the jewel voted by the Iodge . By reference to their programmes , they would find the Shakespearian quotation attached to that toast was " Degrees and offices purchased by the merits of the wearer . " That was true of every P . M . of the lodge ; but was specially applicable to the preesent

instance . He was sure they would all join with him in wishing Bro . Ackworth health and strength to enjoy his well earned repose , and trusted the jewel would be handed down as a heirloom to his children as a memento of his pleasant connection svith the lodge . Bro . E . J . Acworth , I . P . M ., replied , and said that when he was installed he looked upon that day as one of the happiest in his life ; but he thought that the present

occasion was an equally happy one . He thought when he undertook thc duties of the chair that he had undertaken a very responsible task ; but he now considered it a very great pleasure to have presided over them , and the pleasure had been considerably enhanced by their approval . It was a recompense to him to think he had performed his duties to their satisfaction , and he was more than satisfied . He trusted now that he was I . P . M . that the future would be as

pleasurable as the past . He rejoiced that they were in such a prosperous condition , for it was a great satisfaction to a W . M . to preside over a lodge that was prospering . He sincerely thanked them for the hearty support accorded him during the past year , and also for the jewel , which he knew carried with it their kind regards and affection . "The P . M . ' s" was next given by Bro . Fisher , W . M ., who testified to the good work done by the P . M . 's . There

was , hrst , the father of the lodge , Bro . Beasley , whom the brethren were always happy to see present , and he was assured they would join with him in saying "God bless him . " There were several others present that evening , including Bros . Kasner , Burr , Seaward , and Dyer ; and he could safely say that the lodge was proud of its P . M . ' s . It was necessary for the proper working of the lodge that the VV . M . should receive the support and guidance of the

brethren who had passed through the chair ; and he should look to those brethren who now sat on his left at the table to assist him with their counsel and advice . Bro . Beasley , P . M ., returned his sincere thanks for the manner in which the toast had been received . He congratulated the VV . Master on attaining the chair , and also the lodge in liaving elected a brother second to none in the possession of those qualifications which at all times

characterise Freemasonry . Bros . Kasner , Burr , and Seaward also responded , and expressed their willingness to render every assistance to the W . M . during his year of office . The VV . M . then proposed " Ihe Visitors , " and said they were always pleased to welcome brethren from other lodges , for they strove to carry out the biblical injunction and

" let brotherly love continue . " He was pleased to see so many brethren present , and he could say no more than repeat another of the quotations from the immortal bard , and say , " All our friends are welcome . " Bro . A . Strong , VV . M . 2022 , in response , returned thanks on behalf of the visiting brethren for their magnificent reception . Thc only reason he could assign for his
