LEIGH . Marquis of Lome Lodge ( No . 1354 ) — The installation of the W . M . of the above lodge took place on Wednesday afternoon , the Gth inst ., when Bro . T . The brethren of the

lodge mustered in good force , and thc visitors present were Bros . Betley , P . M . Lindsay Lodge , Prov . A . G . S . ; Bennie , Makerfield Lodge ; Clayton , P . M ., P . P . G . D . ; Walshaw , J . D . ; Green , I . G . ; and Travers , Mather , and

Tyidesley , " Stewards . The brethren had previously elected Bro . Starkie , Treasurer , and Bro . Shavy , Tyler . After the installation , the brethren dined together at the Courts' Hotel , the repastbeingservedin Bro . R . Greenough ' s usual excellent style . The usual loyal ancl Masonic toasts vvere duly proposed and responded to .

The W . M ., in replying to the toast of his health , said it had been remarked by a previous speaker that the Past Masters vvere the backbone of a lodge . Hc admitted the truth of that to a certain degree , but thought that the officers vvere also part of the backbone , and hoped they would assist him in the work of the lodge , and also that the Past Masters would attend regularly to give him their advice when

arose . The evening vvas spent in a pleasant manner vvith songs , toasts , and social intercourse .

NORTH WOOLWICH . Henley Lodge ( No . 1472 ) . — The usual monthly meeting of the above prosperous lodge was held at the Three Crowns , on Tuesday , the 5 th inst . Bro . C H . Canning , W . M ., presided , being supported by the following officers : Bros . A . T . Ives , P . M . ; E . West , P . M ., P . P . S . G . D . Herts ; Dr . VV . Vance , P . M ., Treas . ; C . Jolly , P . M ., Sec . ; C Wood , S . W . ; B . Curtis , J . D ., acting J . W . ; C . Fowling , S . D . ; J . Glading , I . G . ; J . Delo , D . C ; and some 50 members of the lodge and

visitors . The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , the ballot vvas taken for Messrs . C . F . Hingst and H . Hayes , and proved unanimous , and Mr . Hayes being in attendance , vvas duly initiated . Bro . Laughlin , an initiate of the Corinthian Lodge , vvas , at the request of the W . M . of that lodge , passed , and Bro . Wooster , of the mother

lodge , raised , the whole of the Three Degrees being worked by the VV . M . and his ofiicers without a single hitch . The lodge vvas then closed , and the brethren sat down to a superb little supper , admirably served by the host , Bra . W . Richardson . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts vvere afterwards duly honoured , being interspersed vvith some excellent harmony .

PARKGATE . Dee Lodge ( No . 157 6 ) . —A regular meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , the 7 th instant , at the Union Hotel . The W . M ., Bro . Jas . Clarke , presided , and there vvere present Bros . Hon . H . Holbrook , P . M ., P . P . D . G . M . British Columbia ; S . VV . Ramsden , P . M ., P . S . G . D . ; J . Barnes , P . M . P . P . G . Std . Br . ; G . B . Richmond , I . P . M . ;

J . Morris , P . M ., Treas . ; R . G . Hawkins , S . VV . ; and a large attendance of brethren . The principal business of the evening vvas the presentation of a handsome marble timepiece tothe I . P . M ., which had been subscribed for exclusively by his Masonic sons , of whom there vvere ten . During Bro . Richmond ' s year of office , the Dee Lodge had vastly improved its position , for when he was

elected to the chair a considerable debt was due by the lodge , whereas at the end of his term this had practically ceased to exist . His rendering * of the ceremonies was most impressive , and vvill not soon be forgotten . His Masonic children conceived the idea of themselves presenting him with a mark of their esfeem , and accordingly subscribed to the presentation , which vvas made at the last meeting . Tlie timepiece was a

very handsome one , and bore the following * inscription " Dee Lodge , 157 6 . Presented to Bro . George 15 . Richmond , I . P . M ., by his ten Masonic sons , as a token of their filial appreciation of his Masonic skill and worth . Parkgate , 7 th November , 1 SS 9 . " The presentation was made by Bro . Dr . Madden , one of the initiates , in an appropriate ancl feeling speech . The W . M . and the Treasurer ( Bro . J . Morris )

spoke of the pleasure it gave them to see that mark of appreciation of Bro . Riclimond ' sservices , andsaid the lodge generally would have been most happy , had they been allowed , to subscribe also . Bro . Richmond , who on rising to reply , was most cordially received , said the honour which had been conferred upon him was a unique one , for , so far as they could discover no such presentation had been made to a

Past Master before . Other Past Masters had had presentations made to them , but he believed no other Past Master had had a presentation subscribed for exclusively by his children . He felt very proud indeed of so great a distinction , and he felt very proud also to think that he had such initiates . By that presentation they had taken thc lead in a new departure in Freemasonry , for the example they had

set was sure to be widely followed . He should always highly prize their handsome gift , which he should value not alone for its monetary value , but chiefly because he believed it represented on the part of his initiates a promise and a pledge that throughout their Masonic career they vvould use their utmost endeavours to promote the prosperity of their mother lodge , in whose welfare they were all so profoundly interested .

The lodge was shortly afterwards closed , and the brethren adjourned to a substantial repast , served in Mrs . Acton ' s best style . A pleasing feature of the after dinner proceedings vvas the reception given to Bro . S . W . Ramsden , P . M ., who vvas recently appointed Senior G . Deacon of the province

and whose name vvas coupled vvith the toast of "The Provincial Grand Lodge . " This is the last meeting of the lodge until March next , and vvas a most pleasant conclusion of the year ' s Masonic work .

SALFORD . Newall Lodge ( No . 1134 ) . —The installation meeting of this prosperous lodge took place at Freemasons' Hall , Adelphi-street , on Tuesday , the 5 th instant . There was a very numerous attendance of members and

Provincial Meetings.

visitors . The installation of Bvo . T . McClelland , S . W . and W . M . elect , by Bro . Samuel Ayland , P . M ., seemed to cause special interest . The lodg * e vvas opened by Bro . Ayland , VV . M ., and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The Auditors' report vvas submitted to the brethren , and was found to be very satisfactory , having a considerable balance in hand , and not a single subscription

owing . Bro . McClelland . S . W ., having been presented by Bro . John Waring , P . M ., to the Installing Master , he vvas duly installed into the chair . The Worshipful Master invested his officers , and they vvere addressed by Bro . John Waring , P . M . The address to the VV . M . vvas delivered by Bro . John Barker , P . M ., P . P . G . Treas ; tothe Wardens by Bro . Hy . Mainwaring ,

P . M . ; and to the brethren by Bro . Wm . Nichol , P . M . The working tools were presented respectively by Bros . Nichol , Barker , and Ayland ; ancl the proclamations ancl salutations were conducted by Bro . John Holroyd , P . M ., P . P . G . S . of W ., in a most praiseworthy manner . In fact , the whole of the work throughout was of such a standard as is rarely met with , and great praise is due to all who took part in it . At

the close of the ceremony the W . M . said his first duty was a very pleasant one indeed , and that was to ask Bro . Samuel Ayland , I . P . M ., to accept from the brethren a most beautiful Past Master ' s jewel , in recognition of the great energy ancl zeal he had shown for the lodge , not only during his year of office , but for many years previous , and asked him to accept it in the same spirit in which it vvas offered , not

for its intrinsic value , but as a bond of union between him and every member of the lodge , all of whom had willingly contributed towards it with great pleasure , and wished him long life to wear it , ancl that he might have every happiness . Bro . Ayland , vvho spoke vvith much emotion , thanked the brethren for the handsome present , and he said they must

accept the will for the deed , as his feelings would not allow him to say what he really felt . He had also presented to him by Bro . John Holroyd , P . M ., P . P . G . S . of VV ., a Past Master's collar ancl handsome silver jewel . The following is a list of officers for the ensuing year : Bros . S . Ayland , I . P . M . ; A . H . Duffin , S . VV . ; G . S . M . to the lodge , and asked his acceptance of an illuminated and handsomely framed address . Tlie lettering and adornment was very tasteful . The name and number of the lodg * e , with a picture of Hadrian , vvas upon the design . The address was read by Bro . Marshall .

Ihe Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., acknowledging the welcome and the address , congratulated the lodge upon its steady progress , its excellent balance-sheet , and their assistance to the Masonic Charities , particularly the Durham Masonic Education Fund .

" This is the last meeting of the lodge until March next , and vvas a most pleasant conclusion of the year ' s Masonic work .

the close of the ceremony the W . M . said his first duty was a very pleasant one indeed , and that was to ask Bro .

M ., P . P . G .
