Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The lodge was opened in due form by thc W . M ., and the minutes of the last lodge were read and unanimously confirmed . Ballots were then taken for Bro . Taylor , as a joining member , and Messrs . Rhodes and Gardner , as initiates —the latter as a serving brother . The voting proved all three to have been unanimously elected . Messrs . Rhodes and Gardner were initiated separately by the VV . M . in his usual masterly and impressive style . Bro . Smith gave the

charge in a very able manner , showing by his delivery how completely he had mastered his subject . Bro . Hopkinson then gave the illustration of the tracing board in such a manner as to elicit the warm approval of the brethren . The lodge having been closed , the brethren adjourned to an excellent repast , served by Bro . Davies , the host , and spent a very pleasant evening , Bros . Woolgar , Rudge , Martin , and Isley enlivening it with songs , and Bro . Harris with a recitation given as only he can give it .

SOUTHAMPTON . — Albert Edward Lodge ( No . 17 S 0 ) . —Bro . James Ireland was installed last week as W . M . of this lodge by the R . W . the Prov . Grand Master , Bro . VV . VV . B . Beach , M . P ., who was attended by several of his Prov . Grand Officers , representatives of the Royal Gloucester , New Forest , Southampton , Shirley , and Clausentum lodges being also present . The following

After ¦ the investiture the lodge voted ten guineas to the Royal

Masonic Institution for Girls , to be added to the list of W . Bro . J . Robertson , P . M . 130 , who will attend the next festival as Steward ; and a similar sum to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , to be placed on the list of VV . Bio . Miles , P . M . 130 , who will act as one of the Stewards

at the festival in February . A Past Master ' s jewel was voted to W . Bro . Walton for the manner in which he had discharged the duties of the chair during the past year . The banquet was served by Bro . T . Dartnall , the new W . M . presiding , and the Prov . G . M ., with his officers , being among the guests .

HENLEY-ON-THAMES . — Thames Lodge ( No . 1895 ) . —A meeting was held on Monday , the 5 th inst ., at the Masonic Rooms . Present : Bros . B . Hunn , P . P . G . D ., W . M . ; F . Marsh , P . G . Stwd ., S . VV . ; Rev . A . R . Pritchard , P . G . C , J . W . ; W . A . Simmons , Sec . ; C . A . Robinson , S . D . ; C Bye , J . D . ; E . Carlisle , M . A ., I . G . ; G . O . Willis , Stwd . ; R . Rogers , Tyler ; J . McBean , T . Sheward , J . Whitehead , J . VV . Rhodes , and VV . H . Harrison . " Visitors : Bros . Williams , 105 G ; and Wickens ,

1710 . Bros . Whitehead and Sheward were passed to the Second Degree , and Mr . H . C . Bulkeley was initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry . The VV . M . announced that he intended to represent the lodge at the Benevolent

Institution Festival in February , and Bro . the Rev . A . R . Pritchard accepted the Stewardship of the Girls' in May . " Hearly good wishes " were given by the visitors , and the brethren adjourned to supper at the Red Lion Hotel , where a pleasant evening was spent .

MALDON . —Blackwater Lodge ( No . 1977 ) . — The monthly meeting of this Essex lodge on the 5 th inst ., was availed of for the presentation to VV . Bro . Thomas Eustace , of Colchester , of a mark of the respect in which he is held by the brethren , and of appreciation of his efforts for the prosperity of the lodge as its first Master . The presentation took the form of a valuable gold watch ,

which in the unavoidable absence through illness of the present VV . M ., Bro . Alfred Richardson , was handed to Bro . Eustace by Bro . Robt . Smith , S . VV ., who in a few well-chosen words spoke of the hard work Bro . Eustace had done for the lodge ; how much its present prosperity was due to him , and how much the brethren were indebted to him for with such regularity coming sixteen miles every

month to fulfil the duties of the chair . Bro . Eustace , who was very much moved , thanked the brethren fcr their great kindness . What he had done had been a labour of love , and his work had been rendered lighter by the hearty support he had always received from his ofiicers and the brethren generally . He assured them he should always

value most highly their handsome present , and it would become an heirloom in his family . The watch bears the following inscription : " Presented to VV . Bro . T . Eustace , P . P . G . S . B ., by the Blackwater Lodge of Freemasons , No . 1977 , for valuable services rendered as first Master . Jan . 5 th 1 SS 5 . "

M . for the ensuing week , and appointed his officers in rotation .

Bro . G . Coleman , W . M . of the mother lodge , for the very excellent manner in which he had rehearsed the ceremony of installation , which was seconded by the J . VV . and carried unanimously . Bro . G . Coleman made a suitable reply . Bros . Fowles , C . Ralph , and Frank Gulliford were elected Auditors ; the audit to take place at the next meeting , in accordance with the bye-laws . Bro . Ed .

Jacobs , P . M ., gave notice that the annual supper in connection with the Lodge of Instruction would take place in March at the Criterion , Piccadilly . Bros . Ed . Jacobs , P . M ., and Fowles having been voted tellers , a ballot then took place for £ 5 5 s . for one of the subscriberships to the Royal Masonic institutions , out of the funds of the Lodge of Instruction , which was declared to be in favour of Bro . Frank Gulliford .

Nothing further offering for the good of rreemasonry , the lodge was then closed in ancient form with peace and harmony , and adjourned to the following Thursday evening . The brethren expressed themselves as having spent a most agreeable and instructive evening .

WEST SMITHFIELD LODGE ( No . 1623 ) . — There was a capital meeting on Monday , the 12 th inst ., at the Clarence Hotel , 88 , Aldersgate-street , E . C . Bro . G Higgins was the VV . M ., and was well supported as follows Bros . VV . MacKay , S . W . ; S . Rcnaut , J . VV . ; VV . Jolly , sen ., acting Sec . ; Aynsley , S . D . ; R . F . Brickdalc , j . D . j VV . A very pleasurable feature of the meeting was the welcome presence of the esteemed Preceptor of the lodge , Bro . VV . Pennefather , P . M . 1623 , Src , who has sufficiently recovered from a severe illness to be again in his position among the brethren , much to their gratification . During our worthy brother ' s regretted absence the duties of the Preceptor have been discharged by the W . M . of the parent

lodge , Bro . G . II . Stephens , who also was present on the occasion under notice . After the usual formalities , the ceremony was carefully worked and well by Bro . Higgins , who gives great promise ' being a capital worker in the mother lodge . Indeed , u .. r Bro . Pennefather ' s able tuition there are many lay mem . ersof the mother lodge fully capable of undertaking any of the duties of the lodge . Bro . Jolly , sen ., acted as candidate . Bro . Higgins having

vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Aynsley , this brother worked the ceremony of passing , Bro . Brickdale being the candidate . Bro . MacKay was elected VV . M . for the next meeting , and the lodge was then closed with hearty congratulations to'Bro . Pennefather upon his recovery , and resuming his duties as Preceptor of the lodge . Brethren are cordially invited to attend on Monday evenings at seven o ' clock .

UBIQUE LODGE ( No . 1789 ) . —A meeting was held on the 9 th inst ., at the Crown and Anchor , 79 , Eburystreet . Present : Bros . Brindley , W . M . ; Taylor , S . VV . ; Hayes , J . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Wade being the candidate . Bro . Wade being a candidate to be passed to the Second Degree answered the usual questions and was entrusted . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Bro . Taylor was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing week . All Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed in perfect harmony .

ALL SAINTS CHAPTER ( No . 1716 ) . —The January meeting of this chapter was held at the Bow Vestry Hall , Bow-road , E ., on the Sth inst ., when , notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather , a good evening ' s work was successfully performed under the skilled presidency of the M . E . Z ., Comp . F . A . White . After . the confirmation of the minutes , and the adoption of the balancesheet , which showed that the chapter had now been successfully steered through all its difficulties , ballots were taken for Bros . Cooper , 1056 , and Forbes , 1805 . Both

being unanimous , the two brethren were duly exalted into Royal Arch Masonry , the ceremony being most impressivel y and solemnly rendered by the M . E . Z ., Comp . F . A . White , who was assisted by Comps . F . J . Hunt , H . ; T . Griffiths , P . Z ., acting as J . ; and J . House , S . E ., acting as P . S . After the adoption of a motion as to future dates of meeting , and the nomination of a Committee to draw up a book of bye-laws for the government of the chaprer , it was closed in due form .

COLNE . —Cana Chapter ( No . 116 ) . —The annual installation meeting of this centenary chapter was held at the Swan Hotel , on Thursday , the Sth inst . There were present Comps . John Bollard , P . P . G . St . Br ., Z . ; Henry Booker-Carey , H . ; James Townsend , J . ; James H , Sillitoe , P . Z ., P . G . T . ; ' Thos . Mason , PA , P . P . G . S . N . ; Thomas Varley , S . E . ; Geo . 2 nd Asst . Soj . ; J . R . Hartley , and others . After the chapter had been opened the minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . John VV . Hartley , who had been previously elected , was exalted to the Supreme Degree of a R . A . Mason by the M . E . Z ., both that worthy companion and the P . S . performing their duties in a most praiseworthy manner . At the conclusion of the exaltation ceremony , Comp . J . H . Sillitoe installed

Comp . H . Booker-Carey as Z . ; Jas . Townsend , H . ; and Thos . Varley , J . ; he also invested the officers as follows : Comps . Geo . Townsend , S . E . ; Jas . Smallpage , S . N . ; E , Bird , P . S . ; J . J . Hartley , ist Asst . Soj . ; and j . R . Hartley , 2 nd Asst . Soj ; the others being unavoidably absent . The M . E . Z . before closing the chapter proposed , and Comp . Townsend seconded , " That a vote of thanks be accorded to Comp . Sillitoe for the many services he had

rendered to the chapter , " which was carried , and ordered to be entered upon the minutes of the meeting . Comp . Sillitoe duly acknowledged the compliment , and then made a strong appeal on behalf of the Masonic Charities , which will no doubt be responded to in due course . The chapter was closed in solemn form , when the companions adjourned to the festive board , where a pleasant evening was spent .

CAMDEN CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT ( No . 704 ) . — A convocation was held at the Moorgate Tavern , Moorgate-street , on Tuesday evening , the Gth inst ., when there were present Comps . Edmunds , M . E . Z . ; Gregory , H . ; Carter , j . ; Slyman , S . E . ; J . E . Sheffield , S . N . ; B . Storr , P . S . ; and a large attendance of

companions . This was the first meeting held at the above house since its removal from the Junction Hotel , Junctionroad . The ceremony of exaltation was ably sustained by the respective officers present ; and we kindly invile all Royal Arch Masons to pay this chapter a visit , being satisfied they will gain that instruction so much needed by many , thereby qualifying them for the various offices in their respective chapters ,

NORTH LONDON CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT ( No . 1471 ) . —A convocation was held at the Alwyne Castle Tavern , St . Paul ' s-road , Canonbury , N ., on Thursday , the Sth inst ., when there were present Comps . H . E . Dehane , Z . ; W . Radcliffe , H . ; G . VV . Knight , J . ; J . E . Sheffield , S . E . ; E . M . Money , S . N . ; T . C . Edmunds , P . S . ; VV . T . Dahnell , A . S . ; G . Gregory , P . Z . ; and A . Bird .

The minutes were read and confirmed , and the ceremony of exaltation was rehearsed , Comp . Gregory being the candidate . " Hearty good wishes " were accorded by all to H . R . H . Prince Albert Victor Christian Edward on the attainment of his majority . Comp . Radcliffe gave notice of motion that he would propose next convocation that the second annual gathering of the companions should take place at a suitable time and place , and the chapter was closed in peace and harmony .

BRO . W . MORRIS . The funeral of Bro . W . Morris , of the Toxteth Lodge , No . 135 G , took place on Wednesday , the 7 th inst ., at St . James ' s Cemetery , Liverpool , and the attendance of about 200 persons showed how sincere and wide-spread was the esteem cherished for the memory of the deceased . The Rev . J . Barnes-Lawrence , of St . Luke's , was the officiating clergyman . The chief mourners were Mrs . Morris , Mr .

and Mrs . A . Woolnch , Mr . John Taylor ( Oswestry ) , Mr . R . Elliott , and Mr . VV . Davies . Deceased was the J . MALDON . —Blackwater Lodge ( No . 1977 ) . — The monthly meeting of this Essex lodge on the 5 th inst ., was availed of for the presentation to VV . Bro . Thomas Eustace , of Colchester , of a mark of the respect in which he is held by the brethren , and of appreciation of his efforts for the prosperity of the lodge as its first Master . The presentation took the form of a valuable gold watch ,

which in the unavoidable absence through illness of the present VV . M ., Bro . Alfred Richardson , was handed to Bro . Eustace by Bro . Robt . Smith , S . VV ., who in a few well-chosen words spoke of the hard work Bro . Eustace had done for the lodge ; how much its present prosperity was due to him , and how much the brethren were indebted to him for with such regularity coming sixteen miles every

month to fulfil the duties of the chair . Bro . Eustace , who was very much moved , thanked the brethren fcr their great kindness . What he had done had been a labour of love , and his work had been rendered lighter by the hearty support he had always received from his ofiicers and the brethren generally . He assured them he should always

Jacobs , P . M ., gave notice that the annual supper in connection with the Lodge of Instruction would take place in March at the Criterion , Piccadilly . Bros . Ed . Jacobs , P . M ., and Fowles having been voted tellers , a ballot then took place for £ 5 5 s . for one of the subscriberships to the Royal Masonic institutions , out of the funds of the Lodge of Instruction , which was declared to be in favour of Bro . Frank Gulliford .

Nothing further offering for the good of rreemasonry , the lodge was then closed in ancient form with peace and harmony , and adjourned to the following Thursday evening . The brethren expressed themselves as having spent a most agreeable and instructive evening .

A very pleasurable feature of the meeting was the welcome presence of the esteemed Preceptor of the lodge , Bro . VV . Pennefather , P . M . 1623 , Src , who has sufficiently recovered from a severe illness to be again in his position among the brethren , much to their gratification . During our worthy brother ' s regretted absence the duties of the Preceptor have been discharged by the W . M . of the parent

lodge , Bro . G . II . Stephens , who also was present on the occasion under notice . After the usual formalities , the ceremony was carefully worked and well by Bro . E . Z ., Comp . F . A . White . After . the confirmation of the minutes , and the adoption of the balancesheet , which showed that the chapter had now been successfully steered through all its difficulties , ballots were taken for Bros . Cooper , 1056 , and Forbes , 1805 . Both

being unanimous , the two brethren were duly exalted into Royal Arch Masonry , the ceremony being most impressivel y and solemnly rendered by the M . E . Z ., Comp . F . A . Sillitoe duly acknowledged the compliment , and then made a strong appeal on behalf of the Masonic Charities , which will no doubt be responded to in due course . The chapter was closed in solemn form , when the companions adjourned to the festive board , where a pleasant evening was spent .
