BANK OF ENGLAND LODGE ( No . 263 ) . — The insiallation meeting of this lodge was held at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , on Thursday , tbe Sih inst . More than usual interest was attached to the proceedings from the fact that a well-known member of the Committee of the Lodge of Emulation—Bro . Sudlow , P . G . Stwd . Kent—was to be inducted into the Master's chair , and the promise of good working during the evening and
throughout his year of office will , we feel sure , be fully realised . VVe offer our congratulations to Bro . Sudlow on his becoming the W . Matthew occupied the chair , and the VV . M . elect , Bro . Clay Sudlow , was duly installed in the chairof King Solomon . Bro . Sudlow having already passed the chair in another lodge , the full ceremony was not performed , but the necessary portion was ably rendered . The
W . M . then appointed his ofiicers as follows : Bros . Lieut .-Col . Jas . Peters , P . G . S . B ., I . P . M . ; Joseph P . Clayton , S . VV . ; Alfred Pocock , J . VV . ; E . B . M ., already balloted for , was invested as Treasurer . The W . M . then presented to the retiring VV . M ., Bro . Col . Peters , in the name of the lodge ,
a handsome Past Master's jewel , in recognition of his services during the past year . The gift was appropriately acknowledged by the recipient , who thanked the brethren not only for the gift , but for the uniform good feeling and assistance he had received during his year of office . The ballot was then taken for a candidate , who was afterwards admitted and initialed into the ancient mysteries in a manner that must have given the utmost gratification to all
present . There being no further business , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a choice banquet . The Worshipful Master , in proposing the toast of " The Queen and the Craft , " gracefully alluded to the interesting event that was being celebrated that day , viz ., the coming of age of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales , an occurrence which appealed to the loyalty of all good Masons . The toast of "The M . VV . thc Grand Master" was next
given , and further expressions of loyalty and affection were uttered by the VV . M . on the event just alluded to , and the following telegram , expressing the unanimous feeling of all present , was sent to his Royal Highness : " The VV . M . and Brethren of the Bank of England Lodge most respectfully and fraternally tender their hcaity greetings to the Most Worshipful Grand Master upon the joyful occasion of the coming of age of his eldest son . "
The toast of " The Pro Grand Master and other Grand Officers" followed , the VV . M . remarking that Masonry had attained a great degree ol popularity under the benehcent rule of the Prince of VVales , who had been ably supported by his ofiicers . It was a sufficient answer to cavillers who said there was nothing in Freemasonry , that the Heir
to the Throne was at their head , and a nobleman of tbe intelligence and influence of Lord Carnarvon was the Pro Grand Master . They had four Grand Ofiicers who were members of the lodge , two of whom were present , viz ., Bros . Col . Peters , P . G . S . B ., and Craven , G . Stwd . With regard to Col . Peters , it was well known that the sword of

G . L . was never carried in such a military and proper manner as svhen in the fnnds of the gallant colonel . Bro . Craven briefly responded on behalf of the Grand Officers . Col . Peters next proposed " The Health of the W . M ., " and , in doing so , said that it was a toast lhat would be well and heartily received by all present . It vvas dillicult for him to find words in which to speak of the merits of the
VV . M . ; as to his working of the beautilul ceremonies of their Order , there could be but one opinion . In his ( the speaker ' s ) visits to different lodges he saw much good working ; but he had never seen the chair occupied by a better worker than Bro . Sudlow . Bro . Sudlow , in reply , said words quite failed him to return thanks for the more than kind way in which Colonel Peters had proposed the toast , and he heartily thanked the
brethren for their reception of it . It seemed but the other day he had to return thanks for the honour they had done him in electing him as a joining member , and now he had to thank them for being placed in the highest position at their disposal . The honour and credit of that old lodge was now in his hands , and he would endeavour to carry out his duties in a manner that would not detract from its high repute .
The Worshipful Master then proposed "The Health of the Past Masters . " One often heard , he said , the Past Masters described as the backbone of the lodge . The backbone of the Bank of England Lodge was a very short one , but very strong . In Bro . Haly they had a Past Master who had served the lodge faithfully , both in the chair and as Treasurer , for several years . Bro . Matthew , who during the time he Was in the chair had extra work to do , had now
added to their obligations by undertaking the office of Treasurer . Of Bro . Peters it was unnecessary to say much . He had done a great deal for the lodge by introducing many excellent members , and their gratitude to him must be increased by the knowledge that he would help them with his counsel in the future . Col . Peters , in reply , said he was proud of No . 26 3 as his mother lodge . He had seen many members come in
and go out , but they still preserved their positicn in the roll of London lodges , and he could say for himself and the other Past Masters that they were at all times willing to render all help to the W . M . and his officers . The VVorshipful Master then said that they had now come to what might be justly called the toast of the evening —that of " The Initiate . " It was always an important one in every lodge when they welcomed the advent of a new
member . In Bro . Holland they had a brother who would do honour to the Bank of England Lodge , and he believed he would not himself regiet the step he had taken . He ( the VV . M . ) believed he had caught the spirit of Masonry , and would look back to the ceremony of that evening with much pleasure . Bro . Holland , in reply , said it was with feelings of appreciation and gratitude that he rose to reply to the toast . It
had long been his ambition to join the grand Craft—among which he numbered many relatives . There had always been , he must admit , a kind of nervous feeling in the back ground as to what the ordeal might be , but he had been exceedingly fortunate in securing the sponsorship of his friend , Col . Peters , and he had to thank him for introducing him to such an excellent lodge , where the impressiveness of the ceremony was greatly enhanced by the
admirable way in which the VV . M . had performed it . He felt that that evening had opened to him a new career , and he fully intended to become a working Mason . "The Visitors " was the next toast which the W . M . had to propose , remarking that it was always a favourite one in the Bank of England Lodge , and , indeed , in every other lodge which believed in hospitality . He welcomed them heartily , and said he should fail in his duty if he did not
pive them all , in the name of the lodge , a cordial welcome . Every visitor that came into the lodge , he said , should not only be welcomed by the brother who had invited him , but by the W . M . and every member . There was nothing more dispiriting than being received coldly , and having to fall back entirely on the one friend who had accompanied him . They had some twenty-two visitors that evening—a goodly number—and he would ask Bros . Glover , P . M . Prince of
Wales Lodge ; Tanqucray , of the Eastes Lodge ; and VV . Lake , P . P . G . Reg . Cornwall , to respond . Bro . Glover said he thanked the W . M . for the very kindly way in which the VV . M . had spoken of the visitors , and he felt it no easy task to return thanks for such a long array . As an old Mason it was no idle complirrent to say how gratified he had been at the work of the lodge that evening , and he considered it a great pleasure to be
present . Their welcome at the banquet had only equalled the reputation the Banki of England Lodge had always possessed for hospitality , and he most heartily thanked the VV . M . and members for thc treat that had _ , been afforded them . Bros . Tanqueray and Lake also responded . The toasts of " The Installing Master , " responded to by Bro . Matthew , and " Thc Officers of the Lodge " brought
a very agreeable evening to a close . The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . Fountain Meen , assisted by Bros . R . Hilton and Coates . ————YARBOROUGH LODGE ( No . 554 ) . —The anniversary festival of thc above old lodge was celebrated on Thursday , the ist inst ., at the Green Dragon , Stepney . The lodge was opened by Bro . J . Lineker , VV . M ., who was
well supported by his officers , and Past Masters , and brethren . There being no other ceremonial working , Bro . John Taylor , S . VV . and W . M . elect , was presented by Bro . j ' . J . Berry , P . M ., as D . of C , for the benefit of installation , which ceremony was undertaken and ably rendered by Bro . J . G . Stevens , P . M . Bro . Taylor was accordingly obligated , and a Board of Installed Masters was formed , and Bro . Iaylor was duly inducted into the chair of K . S .
in ancient form . Among the numerous Past Masters and other Worshipful brethren present was our esteemed Bro . T . J . Barnes , P . M ., the veteran Preceptor , whose presence in re-established health was hailed with pleasure by all . Bro . Taylor was next saluted in the several Degrees , and Bro . Stevens concluded his duties as Installing Master by a capital rendering of the ancient charges , and the VV . M .
appointed his ofiicers as follows : Bros . J . Lineker , I . P . M . ; F . Baylis , S . W . ; A . Symes , J . W . ; J . G . Stevens , P . M ., Treas . ; G . Ward Verry , P . M ., Sec ; VV . upon the capital form in which the accounts were again rendered , and the report was unanimously adopted . The lodge being closed , the brethren sat down to a really first class banquet , served by Bro . A . Walker , the host , in his best style , in the large and commodious banqueting saloon . Indeed , it is not often that such superior and appropriate surroundings for the properly holding of lodge
meetings are to be met with as the Yarborough Lodge enjoys . After the banquet the usual toast list was honoured , and the proceedings were enlivened by some good songs , and Bro . Lineker , I . P . M ., gave a powerful reading . Bro . Seddon , P . M ., Organist , contributed the accompani . ments in the manner for which he is so greatly celibiated . During the proceedings a handsome Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . J . Lineker , the outgoing
Master . Altogether the proceedings werehighly successful . Among the numerous visitors were Bros . H . Buckle , J . VV . 1421 ; H . Conolly , 1507 ; G . H . Stephens , W . M . 1 G 23 ; C . 1 . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , one brother was raised to the Third Degree
in an able manner by the . VV . M . I he election of W . M . resulted unanimously in favour of Bro . Stranger . Bro . VV . Mann , was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . The sum of ten guineas was voted to the list of Bro . Stranger as Steward to the R . M . B . I . Festival of 1 SS 5 . A Past Master ' s jewel having been voted by acclamation to
the VV . M . in recognition of his services during the past year , and the petition of a distressed brother to the Board of Benevolence having been signed , the lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned to refreshment . The usual toasts followed and were duly honoured . The proceedings , which were throughout of an enjoyable nature , then terminated .
CHISWICK LODGE ( No . 2012 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge , which was consecrated a year ago , was held on Monday last at the Bolton Hotel , Dukeroad , Chiswick , under the presidency of Bro . George Everett , VV . M . There was a very large attendance of members of the lodge and visitors . Among the latter were Bros . F . VV . Walden , 975 ; E . A . Tilbury , 975 ; A . Simner ,
J . VV . 177 ; R . Hayes , 73 and 1767 ; D . lhring , 1445 ; H . A . Stunt , S . W . 1320 , S . D . 1 G 41 ; Charles Cordingley , P . M . 45 ; J . A . Hare , A . W . S . 19 S 7 ; W . M . first raised Bios . C . Packer and J . H . D .
Meyer to the Third Degree . He afterwards initiated Messrs . A . F . M . GammeU and John Rowlings , and then installed Bro . Charles Henry Everett , S . W . and W . M . elect , as Master of the lodge . The brethren appointed as officers of the lodge for the ensuing twelve months were : Bros . George Gardner , S . W . ; Richard Harvey , J . VV ., * Dr . Lawrence , M . D ., P . M ., P . L ., Treasurer ; Harry Price ,
Secretary ; VVm . Gomm , S . D . ; VVm . A . Dowling , J . D . ; Harry Furze , I . G . ; Rickerman , P . M ., Organist ; John Hrown , D . C ; Alfred Strong , VV . S . ; J . Rowe , lyler . Dr . Lawrence thought a vote of thanks should be given to Bro . George Everett for having so admirably performed the very arduous duties he had undergone during the past year , and he moved accordingly .
The VV . M . seconded the motion , which was carried unanimously . Bro . G . Everett , I . P . M ., acknowledged the compliment . It was not the first lime the Treasurer had spoken so kindly of him , but he thought it was more than he deserved , though he had tried to do his duty , and as far as health and strength permitted he hoped he had done it . He had
begun well , continued well , and ended fairly well , and he had done what every Master ought to do , he had installed his successors . Bro . Everett then referred to the services rendered by Bro . Ferguson to the lodge on more than one occasion , and thanked him for having performed the duties of W . M . once when he ( Bro . Everett ) was too ill to attend . On the present occasion
he had acted as Director of Ceremonies , and for these services he now thanked Bro . Ferguson . Another subject he had to mention . Bro . George Gardner , S . VV ., last year stood as Steward of this lodge for the Girls' School , and took up an excellent list , headed by ten guineas voted by the lodge . This year he was representing the Aged Freemasons , and no doubt he would take
up an equally good list . He ( Bro . Everett ) therefore proposed that the list should be headed by a vote from the lodge of ten guineas . The motion having been seconded by the Treasurer , was carried unanimously . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet . The usual toasts were afterwards proposed and honoured . Bro . George Everett , I . P . M ., proposed "TheW . M ., "
and complimented him on the excellent start he had made . The brethren were somewhat nervous before he went into the chair , fearing that he would be too modest , having so recently come to so high a position . But they had nothing to fear on that score , because the VV . M . had shown that he was not too modest , and was ready to carry out the work of the lodge . That was exactly the man they wanted to have in the chair , and he ( Bro . Everett ) found he was bequeathing to the new W . M . a position he ought to esteem . Taking into consideration that the lodge was only

to the Throne was at their head , and a nobleman of tbe intelligence and influence of Lord Carnarvon was the Pro Grand Master .

Bro . Taylor was next saluted in the several Degrees , and Bro . upon the capital form in which the accounts were again rendered , and the report was unanimously adopted .
1 . in an able manner by the . VV .
Simner ,

M . first raised Bios .
