MANCHESTER . —Lodge of Integrity ( No . , 6 ) .-iThe installation of Bro . Joseph Senior took place and the St . John ' s Festival celebrated at the Freemasons ' Hall , Cooper-street , on VVednesday , the 31 st ult . We have on a previous occasion referred to the continued prosperity of this lodge , its admirable working , and true Masonic hnsnitalitv . and we have now great pleasure in recording

its charitable acts . The lodge disposes annually of a

total of 427 votes for the Masonic Institutions , all but 16 being in perpetuity , and for which the sum of £ 1149 . ' ° . has been given , and this amount is exclusive of various donations that have been given to the Manchester Infirmary , the National Lifeboat Institution , Hospital Sunday Fund , Commercial Travellers' Schools , & c „ and it is therefore obvious that this , figuratively speaking , grand lodge has

acted nobly towards the cause of charity and set a praiseworthy example for others in the province to follow . Amongst the brethren present were Bros . J . M . Sinclair , W . Bro . G . F . East , P . M ., delivered the three addresses in a masterly manner and concluded the ceremony with prayer . On the motion of the W . M ., seconded by Bro . J . M . Sinclair , Bro . J . W . P . Salmon , P . M ., was again appointed as Charity representative of the lodge . It vvas also resolved that a soiree in connection with the lodge be held on the 2 nd of March . After hearty good wishes had been expressed by the

numerous visitors the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . We had almost omitted to state that the Board of Installed Masters numbered 37 . The brethren , numbering & S , afterwards celebrated the Festival of St . John at a banquet which was admirably served under the able superintendence of Bro . Phillips , who generalised the staff of waiters with precision and skill . When the banquet vvas finished the toast list was proceeded

with . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Queen and the Craft , " * ' H . R . H . the M . W . G . M ., Bro . Albert Edward Prince of Wales , H . R . H . the Princess of Wales and the rest of the Royal Family , " supplementing each toast with a few appropriate remarks . Bro . Wm . Siddeley , S . W ., proposed "The Health of the Right Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon , M . W . Pro Grand

Master , " after which Bro . J . M . Sinclair , I . P . M ., proposed " The Health of the Earl of Lathom " and in the course of his remarks alluded to the illness of the noble Earl , and trusted he might soon be permitted to resume those active Masonic duties for which he was renowned . Innroposing " The Health of the R . VV . P . G . M ., Col . Lc Gendre N . Starkie , " the W . M . said they were all so well acquainted with the satisfactory manner in which Col .

Starkie fulfilled the duties of his high office that to comment at any length upon them would be like painting the lily , he would therefore content himself by calling upon the brethren to drink his health . The invitation was warmly responded to by the brethren . After which the Worshipful Master proposed "The Healths of the V . W . Deputy P . G . M ., Bro . George Mellor , and the rest of the Present and Past Provincial Grand

Officers , " which vvas also cordially responded to . In reply to the toast Bro . J . E . Lees , P . G . Treas ., said he felt great pleasure in being present with them that day , and witnessing the installation ceremony which had been so ably performed by Bros . Wildgoose and East , who were however always proficient in any ceremony they had to perform . Bro . Lees concluded by expressing his sincere thanks for the invitation he had received .

Bro . John Chadwick , P . G . Sec , also replying to the toast , said he could say nothing but in commendation of the working he had witnessed , or of the efforts which the lodge bad made from time to time in the cause of charity , and there vvas consequently nothing but commendation due . Bro . Chadwick concluding said that whenever he spoke abroad of a pattern for good working and an example for charity , he always mentioned the Integrity Lodge ,

and he wished it in all sincerity every success . Bro . George F . East in proposing " The Health of the W . M . " said he experienced very great pleasure in so doing because he felt no W . M . ever more worthily occupied that position than Bro . Senior , who had by his genial disposition and kindly manner endeared himself to all who knew him , either in or out of the lodge , and in so zealously fulfilling his Masonic duties had done all a

brother could do . Bro . East continuing said the brethren had all heard how nicely their W . M . had sang the beautiful song a short time ago , and many of them like himself were aware how ably Bro . Senior had contributed to the harmony of the lodge ever since he became a member of it . Bro . East went on to say that he felt sure the Past Masters of the lodge would do all in their power to support and assist Bro . Senior in his position , and that the officers would

unite together with the same object , and he felt convinced their VV . M . would be second to none who had preceded him , and none would have done their duty more satisfacfactorily . The toast was drunk with great enthusiasm , after which Bro . J . W . P . Salmon sang " Here ' s to his health in a song . " Bro . Senior in reply said he rose to thank the brethren very heartily indeed for the warm manner in which they

had responded to the toast of his health . He was thoroughly sensitive of the important duties attached to the office of VV . M ., but he assured them he had the interest of 1 G 3 at heart , and with the assistance of the P . M . ' s and the officers he would do his utmost to make himself vyorthy of his position , and cultivate that good feeling which he believed existed amongst them all , thereby illustrating that beautiful passage of the ritual which says " My hand given

to Master Mason shall be a sure pledge of brotherhood . " Bro . Senior in conclusion , said he trusted they would all try to live up to Masonry , and he hoped that at the expiration of his year of office it might be said of him that be had been a better man than any of his predecessors . Bro . loseph Wildgoose , P . M ., P . G . J . D ., in proposing " The Healths of the Visiting Brethren " said he could assure them they were heartily welcome and that the

members of the lodge vverc at all times pleased to sec visitors . Bros . Richd . Timperley , P . G . S . D . ; Edward Simpson , P . P . G . D . Cheshire ; and D . M . Kapagore , P . M . 1189 , Bombay , responded . In proposing "The Health of the l . P . M . ( Bro . J . M . Sinclair ) , and the P . Ms , of the lodge , " the Worshiptul Master said , in reference to the I . P . M ., no brother had worked more diligently for the lodge than Bro . Sinclair ,

whose working during his year of omce left nothing to be desired and pleased all who witnessed it . The VV . M . continning , said it had been all along Bro . Sinclair ' s ambition to have the right men in the lodge whom none would be ashamed of meeting outside . With regard to the P . Ms , they were all good and tried men , and the ajipearance of ten P . Ms , round the table that evening testified to the great interest they had taken in the lodge . In conclusion ,

Bro . Senior called upon the brethren to cordially respond to the toast . Bro . J . M . Sinclair in reply said although his reign was over it vvas a great satisfaction for him to know that before his sun had gone down a substantial sum had been given to charity of nearly £ 90 , and although he had now become one of the upper house he did not intend to remain inactive ,

but should in conjunction with the other Past Masters render the W . M . all the assistance he could . On behalf of the Past Masters he begged to thank the brethren for drinking their healths . "The Masonic Charities" were ably commented ujion by Bro . J . VV . P . Salmon , P . P . G . D . C , who reminded the brethren that strenuous efforts must be made between the

present time and next June , when the Boys' Festival would take place , towards subscribing a large sum to that Grand Institution , and informed the brethren that the success which had hitherto attended the election of a boy from the Province of East Lancashire would in future be greatly impeded unless a large sum was raised , which would require the individual efforts of every brother .

Bro . Joseph Wildgoose responded to the toast . Other toasts were proposed and responded to , and one of the largest and most successful meetings we ever attended was brought to a close . During the evening some excellent songs and recitations vverc given by Bros . J . E . and B . Williams , J . Senior , J . D . Smith , and J . H . Greenwood .

DERBY . —Hartington Lodge ( No . 10 S 5 ) . —A very distinguished gathering took place at the Masonic Hall , on VVednesday , the 7 th inst , the occasion being the anniversary of the above lodge and the installation of its VV . M . for the ensuing year . The lodge vvas opened by

Bro . Manton , the retiring Master , when Bro . W . Butterfield , S . W ., was presented by Bro . Moore , P . P . G . R ., and Bro . Russell . P . G . J . D .. for the benefit of installation , which ceremony was performed by Bro . Manton , assisted by Bros . Moore and Russell , in a most efficient and impressive manner .

'I he newly installed master invested his officers as follows : Bros . Hart , S . W . ; Popplewell , J . W . ; Russell , P . M ., Treasurer ; Wallis , P . M ., Sec ; Carr , S . D . ; Richardson , J . Manton on behalf of the lodge a beautiful Past Master's jewel in recognition of his able services to the

lodge as W . M . during the past year . The lodge vvas then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room where a repast vvas provided in excellent style by Bro . Popplewell , J . W . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given . The toast of the evening , ' [ The Health of the W . M . " was proposed by the S . W . in a very able speech , and received bv the

brethren with great enthusiasm . Bro . Butterfield is known to a very large Masonic circle . As Preceptor of the lodge of instruction he is highly esteemed for his correct working , and he is , no doubt , destined to hold a prominent position in the Craft Next perhaps in importance vvas the toast of " The Officers of the Lodge . " The W . M . vvas complimented on the

selection of his officers and it vvas confidently anticipated that the chair of the lodge would not lack a suitable occupant for some time to come . The great number of visitors from the other lodges in the town and neighbourhood and also from a distance was highly complimentary to Bro . Butterfield , and also evinced the good fellowship that exists between the Hartington and sister lodges .

Our space is too limited to give the names of all those present , and it is a difficult matter to make a selection from such a large assembly of Masons of high rank . Bro . G . F .

H . Greenwood .
