Our esteemed brother , the Rev . W . Tebbs , Incumbent of St . Matthews , Auckland , has been appointed District G . R . by R . W , Bro . G . S . Graham , District G . M . Auckland . The christening of the son of the Duke and

Duchess of Connaught will take place this ( Friday ) afternoon in the private chapel at Windsor Castle . The Bishop of London is expected to officiate at the ceremonial , which will be attended by the Queen , Princess Beatrice , the Duke and Duchess of Connaught , the Duke of Albany , and other members of the Royal Family .

The paragraph in our last referring to the Brixton Lodge of Installation vvas not quite accurate , the real reason for having no banquet being that the alterations at Brixton Hall not having been completed , and the VV . M . objecting to the members going some distance to the banquet , it vvas decided that the members should disperse after the meeting . The VV . M ., Bro . H . B . Marshall , then invited the members to the festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution on the 2 Sth inst .

Field Marshal His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge , K . G ., Sic , Sic , has kindly consented to preside at the 6 Sth anniversary festival of the Royal Caledonian Asylum , Holloway , N . ( where 150 Scottish orphans of soldiers , sailors , marines , & c , & c , are maintained and educated ) , to be held at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street , W . C , on Monday , April 23 rd .

It has been decided that the " Memorial Fund to the officers who fell in Afghanistan and South Africa " shall take the form of a mural tablet , sculptured in white marble , and placed in the Central Hall of the Royal Victoria Hospital , Netley . The subject of the tablet , which vvill represent medical officers and men of the Army Hospital Corps attending wounded on the field , has been designed and vvill be executed by Count Gleichen .

At the meeting' of the Executive Committee of the International iisheries Exhibition , held on Monday last , it vvas stated that the Governments of Russia , Spain , and France have intimated their intention to participate officially in the Exhibition , and have appointed Commissioners , and in , the case of Russia and Spain have

applied for a large quantity of space . In order to meet this sudden addition to their Exhibition the Committee have decided upon the erection of three more large buildings , providing an area of about 22 , 000 square feet , in addition to the buildings already erected , or proposed to be erected , and described in their recent report .

Messrs . W . and D . Downey have this week published two excellent photos of Krao , the " Missing Link . " As this person , for so we must call her , is all the rage just now , no doubt many who go to see her at the Aquarium will want to have her portrait as a memento . We are told she is an attractive and affectionate child , and by the carte-de-visite

she seems particularly so with Mr . Farini who brought her to this country . She is taken in his arms clinging to his neck . She is covered with long hair , and is in no way repulsive to look at or speak to . Probably this freak of nature will be well visited this season , and probably Messrs . Downey ' s will have a demand for their interesting publication .

Bro . the Bishop of Peterborough has given £ 100 to the Peterborough Cathedral Restoration Fund . The directors of the Bank of England met on Thursday last , and reduced the rate of discount to 3 J- per cent .

We regret to announce the death , quite suddenly , at Norwood , of Bro . Charles Alfred Coleman , of the Southwark Park Lodge and Organist of the Sidcup Lodge . Bro . Coleman was 49 years of age . We have been requested to correct a slight error

in Bro . Sillitoe ' s speech at Colne as to only one chapter being entitled to a centenary charter , the Chapter of Charity , Bristol , having had a warrant granted in November last and presented to them at the Provincial Grand Chapter meeting on the 1 st inst .

I he Walpole Lodge ot Mark Masters at Norwich is about to be resuscitated . A meeting will be held at 23 , St . Giles-street , Norwich , on Monday next . The M . VV . Grand Master , Lord Hennikcr , has promised to attend . Bro . Donald M . Dewar , Asst . Grand Secretary , will act as W . M .

It is with much regret that we announce the death , at the age of 59 , of Bro . Carr Culmer Gibbs , of the Pembroke Hotel , Bournemouth . Bro . Gibbs vvas much esteemed at Bournemouth , and twice served the office of W . M . of Kcrrt Lodge , No . 15 . He vvas also a member of the United Mariners Lodge , No . 30 , and Lodge of Hengist , No . 195 .

We are requested to remind the brethren in the neighbourhood of Dunmow , Essex , that Bro . James Stevens , P . M ., P . Z ., will deliver his lecture explanatory of the ritual and ceremonies of the First Degree in the Rosslyn Lodge , No . 1545 , at the Saracen ' s Head Hotel , Dunmow , on Tuesday evening next . Lodge will be opened at six p . m ., by Bro . H . E . Dehane , the VV . M ., and

it is expected that the lodges at Colchester and Chelmsford will be , with others in the locality , well represented . A correspondent writes asking us to caution the public in general and the Craft in particular , against the insidious solicitations of a brother (?) of the name of Chadwick , who has been victimising in a most heartless manner sundry brethren in the Hampshire district . Any help given

him is practically useless—it is so much thrown away . He has been in the theatrical profession , and his wife is travelling with him , and both being of ahumoroustemperament , are likely to impose upon and take advantage of the younger of our brethren . Bro . G . K . Johnson , C . C , P . G . S ., has been appointed chairman of the Finance Committee of the Guildhall School of Alusic .

An Exhibition of trophies , relics , and articles of interest in connection with the Egyptian and other recent campaigns was opened by the Duke of Cambridge at Humphrey ' s Hall , Albert-gate , on VVednesday . The receipts from the exhibition will be devoted to the Egyptian War Fund . Amongst the visitors were Bro . Lord and Ladv

Wolseley , the Duke and Duchess of Tcck , Sir H . and Lady Rawlinson , Lord Northbrook , the Marquis of Clanricarde , Bro . the Marquis of Tweeddale , Col . Milne Holme , M . P ., Col . the Hon . VV . Colville , and Count Herbert Bismark . During the afternoon the band ot the 1 st Life Guards played a selection of music , and during the evening the band of the 4 th Dragoon Guards vvas in attendance .

The Sportsman ' s Exhibition just closed at the Agricultural Hall has been extremely interesting to lovers of sport in all its phases . Guns , rifles , bicycles , tricycles , and saddles being amongst the numerous exhibits . Amongst the new patent fowling pieces is one which is sighted so that the left eye is used as well as the right , and can be fired very quickly . Also there is a

four-barrelled repeating gun , which is quite light to carry . Messrs . Aves and Moss exhibit a patent for hansom cab wheels , though suitable for carriages and tricycles as well . Its novelty is that friction is reduced to a minimum , and that the spring is round the tyre . Bro . Viscount Sherbrookc and several well-known persons in private and business life have examined this novelty with a view to adopting it . A company will be formed to work the patent .

The closing meeting of the committee entrusted with the arrangements in connection with the recent Masonic ball at the Town Hall , Liverpool , on the 1 ith ult ., vvas held at the Temple in Hope-street , on Friday evening , the gth inst ., under the presidency of Bro . Councillor E . Grindley . There vvas a numerous attendance of members . Bro . T . Whitehead , W . M . 241 , the honorary secretary ,

read a financial statement , which showed that the balance he had to hand over to the funds of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution amounted to £ 119 Gs . 9 d ., an announcement which vvas received with great gratification by the brethren . On the motion of Bro . G . Broadbridge , seconded by Bro . Dr . Bailey , a cordial vote of thanks vvas given to Bro . Councillor Grindley for the

exceedingly valuable services he had rendered as chairman of the Ball Committee in securing the success of the pleasant social assembly . The honorary secretary ' s indefatigable labours also secured asimilar well-merited compliment , and thanks to the vice-chairman ( Bro . H . A . Tobias ) , the honorary treasurer ( Bro . VV . H . Smith ) , the members of the committee , and the stewards , brought the proceedings to a close .

Richard Wagner , the eminent composer , died at Venice on Tuesday at the age of 70 . Lad y Monckton , wife of our distinguished brother the President of the Board of General Purposes , has been taking part in dramatic performances at Cheltenham in aid of the Gloucestershire society for the prevention of cruelty to animals . Bro . Lieut . Davis will on Tuesday be installed W . M . of the Burlington Lodge at the Albion Tavern .

Our esteemed brother , the Rev . W . Tebbs , Incumbent of St . Matthews , Auckland , has been appointed District G . R . by R . W , Bro . G . S . Graham , District G . M . Auckland . The christening of the son of the Duke and

Duchess of Connaught will take place this ( Friday ) afternoon in the private chapel at Windsor Castle . The Bishop of London is expected to officiate at the ceremonial , which will be attended by the Queen , Princess Beatrice , the Duke and Duchess of Connaught , the Duke of Albany , and other members of the Royal Family .

The paragraph in our last referring to the Brixton Lodge of Installation vvas not quite accurate , the real reason for having no banquet being that the alterations at Brixton Hall not having been completed , and the VV . M . objecting to the members going some distance to the banquet , it vvas decided that the members should disperse after the meeting . The VV . M ., Bro . H . B . Marshall , then invited the members to the festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution on the 2 Sth inst .

Field Marshal His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge , K . G ., Sic , Sic , has kindly consented to preside at the 6 Sth anniversary festival of the Royal Caledonian Asylum , Holloway , N . ( where 150 Scottish orphans of soldiers , sailors , marines , & c , & c , are maintained and educated ) , to be held at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street , W . C , on Monday , April 23 rd .

It has been decided that the " Memorial Fund to the officers who fell in Afghanistan and South Africa " shall take the form of a mural tablet , sculptured in white marble , and placed in the Central Hall of the Royal Victoria Hospital , Netley . The subject of the tablet , which vvill represent medical officers and men of the Army Hospital Corps attending wounded on the field , has been designed and vvill be executed by Count Gleichen .

At the meeting' of the Executive Committee of the International iisheries Exhibition , held on Monday last , it vvas stated that the Governments of Russia , Spain , and France have intimated their intention to participate officially in the Exhibition , and have appointed Commissioners , and in , the case of Russia and Spain have

applied for a large quantity of space . In order to meet this sudden addition to their Exhibition the Committee have decided upon the erection of three more large buildings , providing an area of about 22 , 000 square feet , in addition to the buildings already erected , or proposed to be erected , and described in their recent report .

Messrs . W . and D . Downey have this week published two excellent photos of Krao , the " Missing Link . " As this person , for so we must call her , is all the rage just now , no doubt many who go to see her at the Aquarium will want to have her portrait as a memento . We are told she is an attractive and affectionate child , and by the carte-de-visite

she seems particularly so with Mr . Farini who brought her to this country . She is taken in his arms clinging to his neck . She is covered with long hair , and is in no way repulsive to look at or speak to . Probably this freak of nature will be well visited this season , and probably Messrs . Downey ' s will have a demand for their interesting publication .

Bro . the Bishop of Peterborough has given £ 100 to the Peterborough Cathedral Restoration Fund . The directors of the Bank of England met on Thursday last , and reduced the rate of discount to 3 J- per cent .

We regret to announce the death , quite suddenly , at Norwood , of Bro . Charles Alfred Coleman , of the Southwark Park Lodge and Organist of the Sidcup Lodge . Bro . Coleman was 49 years of age . We have been requested to correct a slight error

in Bro . Sillitoe ' s speech at Colne as to only one chapter being entitled to a centenary charter , the Chapter of Charity , Bristol , having had a warrant granted in November last and presented to them at the Provincial Grand Chapter meeting on the 1 st inst .

I he Walpole Lodge ot Mark Masters at Norwich is about to be resuscitated . A meeting will be held at 23 , St . Giles-street , Norwich , on Monday next . The M . VV . Grand Master , Lord Hennikcr , has promised to attend . Bro . Donald M . Dewar , Asst . Grand Secretary , will act as W . M .

It is with much regret that we announce the death , at the age of 59 , of Bro . Carr Culmer Gibbs , of the Pembroke Hotel , Bournemouth . Bro . Gibbs vvas much esteemed at Bournemouth , and twice served the office of W . M . of Kcrrt Lodge , No . 15 . He vvas also a member of the United Mariners Lodge , No . 30 , and Lodge of Hengist , No . 195 .

We are requested to remind the brethren in the neighbourhood of Dunmow , Essex , that Bro . James Stevens , P . M ., P . Z ., will deliver his lecture explanatory of the ritual and ceremonies of the First Degree in the Rosslyn Lodge , No . 1545 , at the Saracen ' s Head Hotel , Dunmow , on Tuesday evening next . him is practically useless—it is so much thrown away . He has been in the theatrical profession , and his wife is travelling with him , and both being of ahumoroustemperament , are likely to impose upon and take advantage of the younger of our brethren . An Exhibition of trophies , relics , and articles of interest in connection with the Egyptian and other recent campaigns was opened by the Duke of Cambridge at Humphrey ' s Hall , Albert-gate , on VVednesday . The Sportsman ' s Exhibition just closed at the Agricultural Hall has been extremely interesting to lovers of sport in all its phases . Guns , rifles , bicycles , tricycles , and saddles being amongst the numerous exhibits . Amongst the new patent fowling pieces is one which is sighted so that the left eye is used as well as the right , and can be fired very quickly . Also there is a

four-barrelled repeating gun , which is quite light to carry . Messrs . Aves and Moss exhibit a patent for hansom cab wheels , though suitable for carriages and tricycles as well . Its novelty is that friction is reduced to a minimum , and that the spring is round the tyre . Bro . Viscount Sherbrookc and several well-known persons in private and business life have examined this novelty with a view to adopting it . A company will be formed to work the patent .

The closing meeting of the committee entrusted with the arrangements in connection with the recent Masonic ball at the Town Hall , Liverpool , on the 1 ith ult ., vvas held at the Temple in Hope-street , on Friday evening , the gth inst ., under the presidency of Bro . Councillor E . Grindley . There vvas a numerous attendance of members . Bro . T . Whitehead , W . M . 241 , the honorary secretary ,

read a financial statement , which showed that the balance he had to hand over to the funds of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution amounted to £ 119 Gs . 9 d ., an announcement which vvas received with great gratification by the brethren . On the motion of Bro . G . Broadbridge , seconded by Bro . Dr . Bailey , a cordial vote of thanks vvas given to Bro . Councillor Grindley for the

exceedingly valuable services he had rendered as chairman of the Ball Committee in securing the success of the pleasant social assembly . The honorary secretary ' s indefatigable labours also secured asimilar well-merited compliment , and thanks to the vice-chairman ( Bro . H . A . Tobias ) , the honorary treasurer ( Bro . VV . H . Smith ) , the members of the committee , and the stewards , brought the proceedings to a close .
