John Henry Whadcnat as Worshipful Master for the t-nsuing year . The following officers were invested by Uro . Whadcoat : Bros . Milton Smith , S . VV . ; E . G . Young , J . W . ; H . Glenn , P . presented to Bro . Green , I . P . M ., in recognition of his services as Master , and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Worshipful Master , Bro . Whadcoat , lor renovating and renewing the lodge furniture . The lodge was closed , and a recherche banquet was served in an admirable manner in the large hall , 93 brethren sitting down . During dinr . er an excellent selection of

music was played by a string band under the leadership of Mr . F . R . Pritchard . The usual toasts were subsequentl y heartily received . Bro . F . A . Philbrick , O . C , G . Reg ., responded for "The Grand Officers , " and having returned thanks on behalf of the leading lights in Freemasonry , said that nothing delighted his colleagues and himself more than to see that in the ancient lodges of the Craft , such as No . 10 .

( he lull vigour of youth was still to be observed . The Grand Officers were glad to obs ; rve that it was not merely the youngest of the ledges that were progressing , but that some of the oldest and most renowned were able to fully hold their place . If he might vi nturetoadd a word without offeree to his distingui-htd Bro her Bywater , he would say it was a great deal of pleasure for the Grand Officers to see

one of the great ceremonies rendered in the manner in which it had been that day . He thanked the VV . M . most sincerely for the kind recognition he had mide , and wished the lodge continued success . He would add one word , and say it was not merely the looking for recruits that Masonry

wanted row , hut it was the looking for good recruits . Hc held himself that he should like to propose no man in his lodue that he could not receive in his own house . If that feeling prevailed in that lodge , it would go on in its career and prosper so lorg as it keptfaithful , as it had done , to the giand old Masonic principles .

Bro . A . D . Green , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the VVorshipful Master , " referred to the newly-installed Master as a kind hearted and genial brother . He was quite sure the mention of the name of Bro . Whadcoat would bring forth a hearty burst of approval , for this was not only the toast oi the evening , but the W . M . was presiding over the 125 th anniversary of the lodge . The

W . M . hid , moreover , made himself popular , and had endeared him-elf and won the esteem and respect of all the members . Personally , he congratulated the VV . Master on attaining the position , and was pleased to be followed by such an excellent broiher . From the very able manner in which Bro . V \ hadcoat had entered on his duties , it was clear the welfir-J of the lodge during his year would not suffer in his hinds . It was the VVorshipful Alaster ' s desire

to please iv'yone , ar . d , although that was a difficult matie , yet , ju iging fr . m the elaborate , perfect , and detailed arrangements mule by him for their enjoyment that night , he w . uiil , dualities-,, succeed . They all hoped that his year would he a pleasant and agreeable one , and also one of continued prosperity and success . Hro . Whadcoat had dune a great deal Ior the Masonic Charities , and had greatly benefited tlieir lodge by his generous contribution to its Benevolent Fund .

Bro . J . 11 . Whadcoat , VV . M ., returned heartfelt thanks for the too flattering manner in which the I . P . M . had proposed the toast , it was true to an extent that he had endeavoured to take some interest in Masonry in general and lhat lodge in particular . He was extremely obliged to the members for placing him in that proud position , ltwas ,

perhaps , the proudest moment of his life , and he should endeavour to carry out the duties entrusted to him to the best of his ability . He had only one desire—the prosperity of No . 19 . He trusted there would be some work to do , and that at the end of his year they would sayhe had done his best . He thanked the brethren for receiving the toast so kindly . Bro . Col . Geo . Lambert , P . G . S . B ., acknowledged the toastof "The Visitors , " and said they were delighted to

see the lodge so flourishing , and the work so admirably done by Bro . Bywater . It was a treat to see the work done as it should be done . That lodge had b ^ en for many years the home of Masonry , and he knew thit for the past 45 years the work had always been excellently done . Personally he was wrapt up in that lodge because the Percy Lodge had been associated with that lodge for many years . Bros . Col . Davies Sewell , P . G . Stwd ., and Sorrell , also responded .

" The I . P . M . " was proposed by the W . M . He said that those visitors who had attended the lodge during the past year as well as the members would testify to the excellent working brought to bear by Bro . Green on their proceedings . Long before he took the position of I . P . M . he was a Past Master in the ceremonies . During the past year everything had gone on in a smooth and satisfactory manner , their numbers had increased , and the Charities had

not been forgotten . Bro . A . D . Green , I . P . M ., returned thanks , and said he was gratified to hear that his endeavours had been somewhat successful . His year in the chair had been an extremely pleasant one , and he was sorry to leave it . He should be pleased on all occasions to render assistance to the W . M . if required . " The Past Masters " having been honoured , the

Worshipful Master in submitting " The Health of the Installing Master , " said that if there was a member of No . tg who lived in the hearts of all the members it was their dear friend , Bro . Bywater . The ceremony of installation performed by Bro . Bywater that evening would never be forgotten by him . Bro . VV . M . Bywater , P . M ., P . G . S . B ., tendered his sincere thanks to the VV . M . for his kind words , and expressed his delight that the evening had gone off so well .

It could not fail to be otherwise under the excellent arrangements made by the VV . M . He ( Bro . Bywater ) was in his 48 th year of membership in the lodge , and regretted that the father of the lodge was unable to be present . During his tenure of Masonic life he had seen great changes , and many good men had passed away . When he was initiated there were , he thought , about 750 lodges—the number now was about 2500 , which spoke volumes for the prosperity of

the Craft and the influence of the M . W . G . M . That evening had been termed the 125 th installation , but that was hardly true , because up to the Union many of the old lodges had a new W . M . twice a year . He had gone very carefully through the books , and thought the W . M . might claim to be the 170 th Master , although that was the 125 th year of the existence of the lodge . Bros . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . I ., and I . M . McLeod , Sec .

R . M . I . B ., replied for "The Masonic Charities , " after which other toasts followed . The menu and musical programme , together with several items of interest in connection with this old lodge , were bound up in a handsome volume , forming a souvenir of an interesting occasion . The following artistes assisted in the musical arrangements : Messrs . E . H . Yeo , J . Rosslyn Howell , Wilford

Cunliffe , and Septimus Massland . Piano : Bro . F . Sewell Southgate . Of the guests invited who were unable to be present were Bros . E . Letchworth , P . G . D ., G . Sec ; Sir John B . Monckton , P . G . W . ; Sir Reginald Hanson , P . G . W . ; Loveland Loveland , P . G . D . ; Major-G 3 n . Gadsden , 1 , P . G . S . ; Lieut .-Col . Alderman H . D . Davies ; the Most

Stiles , P . M . 1507 ; J . Tickle , P . M . 119 O and 1702 , P . P . G . Reg . Middx . ; and many others . The renovation and renewal of the lodge furniture , jewels , & c , was carried out by Bro . George Kenning .

Lodge pf Unity ( No . 69 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Inns of Court Hotel , Lincoln ' s Inn Fields , on Alonday , the 5 th inst ., when Bro . G . Cosby Harpour installed his successor , Bro . Dr . R . J . Reece , one of the medical officers of the Local Government Board . Amongst a large number of visitors were Bros . Col . G . Miss Ethel Bevansand Bro . Franklin Clive contributed to the harmony of a pleasant evening .

Faith Lodge ( No . 141 ) . —This lodge met at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on the 30 th ult ., when there were present , among others , Bros . Trott , W . AI . ; VVhite , S . W . ; Godfrey , J . VV . ; VV . J . Hakim , P . M ., Treas . ; W . Stuart , P . M ., Sec ; Swan , S . D . ; Gluckstein , J . D . ; Moss , I . G . ; Sharpley , Org . ; J . C Taylor , I . P . M . ; C . Dairy , P . Ihe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The request of Bro . Coop , P . M ., to be allowed to become a non-dining , or country , member , was agreed to . Several important matters in connection with , the lodge having been discussed , the lodge was closed , and the brethren

adjourned to an excellent banquet . Upon the removal of the cloth , the customary toasts received full jui-ticc . The loast of " The W . M . " was kindly proposed by the I . P . M ., who said that as yet Bro . 'Trott had had no opportunities of working any ceremony . However , that evening a candidate had been proposed for initiation at the next meeting , when no doubt the W . AI . would please them all with his work .

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

The VV . AI . having replied , gave "The Visitors , " which was duly acknowledged by Bros . Sellaway , Cameron , Ward , and Reichesbach . "The Health of the Past Masters " followed . Bro . C . Wetzlar , P . M ., among others , replied . He said that the Past Masters of the lodge were a very strong body ; they were always willing to assist not only the Master , but

any individual member of the lodge . He hid been a member some years , and nothing afforded him greater pleasure than to attend the meetings of No . 141 . ' He should not be present at its next meeting , as he was going to Cuba , but he hoped to be back in time for the March meeting . Bro . VV . I . Hakim , P . M ., in acknowledging the toast of

"The Treasurer and Secretary , ' said that he regretted to be compelled to state that financially the lodge was not quite so prosperous as he could wish . Unfortunately , there- was a general depression m the mercantile and- commercial world , and it affected Freemasonry . However , he would not pose as a pessimist that evening . He hoped that by the end of the year the clouds would lift , and that he would

be in a position to furnish a satisfactory balance-sheet . Bro . VV . Stuart , Sec , made a few humorous remarks , which excited the risibilities of his audience . Bros . White and Godfrey acknowledged the toast of "The Officers . " Bros . Sharpley , Fownes , Langdale , and others entertained the brethren . The proceedings then terminated .

St . Luke ' s Lodge ( No . 144 ) . —This oldestablished lodge met at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on the 5 th inst .. when there were present Bros . F . Stutfield , W . M . ; R . Bridgman , S . W . ; W . A . Scurrah , P . M . ; J . J . VVhite , 733 ; C . Botterill , 134 S ;

H . T . Harrison , 733 ; G . Palmer , and R . T . VVest , 1744 . The lodge having been opened , Bro . R . A . March was unanimously elected as a joining member . The W . AI . then initiated Alessrs . VV . H . Royle , H . J . Jennings , and E . J . Winsborrow in excellent form . It was resolved that 10 guineas be taken from the lodge funds , and placed on the

list of Bro . A . Saunders , I . P . M ., as Steward for the Girls ' School . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of a superb banquet , which was prepared by Bro . A . Clemow in his usual good style . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly honoured ,

"The Health of the W . M . " was proposed in kind terms by Bro . A . Saunders , I . P . AI ., who remarked that the W . M . was doing his utmost for the interests of the lodge . Bro . Stutfield , W . M ., in reply , said that he hoped while he was in the chair to be always received so kindly , and that when his term of oflice expired he trusted the brethren

would be satisfied with the little he might have done for the lodge and the Craft . At this point Bro . W . M . Stiles , P . M ., entered the room , and he received a hearty greeting . In giving "The Initiates , " the Worshipful Master observed that he was glad to receive them into ( Masonry , and he hoped they would all hereafter give a good account

of themselves . Bro . Royle responded . He appreciated the honour of having been admitted into the Craft and hoped by his conduct to gain the confidence of the brethren . Bro . Jennings also replied , remarking that he was quite overcome with the beautiful ceremony . Bro . Winsborrow also responded . He would endeavour

at all times to be a credit to the lodge in which he should aspire to become one of its lights . The VVorshipful Alaster said that the presence that evening of a very distinguished visitor warranted him to give the toast " Success to the Candidature of Bro . VV . M . Stiles . " He was well known to them all , and his qualifications for the high ollice of Grand Treasurer were too

numerous to mention . He urged the members not to fail to attend the first Wednesday in Alarch at Grand Lodge to vote for their excellent friend , Wm . Mason Stiles . In responding , Bro . W . M . Stiles , P . M ., said tbat 5000 members were expected at Grand Lodge , on the day of the election , which would break the record . He had now 2500 pledged promises which was very nice , but would be of no

use unless those votes were recorded in his favour . He knew he was safe in the St . Luke ' s Lodge , but hesuggested that those present should induce their friends to attend to vote and send him in with a large majority , which would be evidence that thc masses would insist upon an annual election for the oflice of G . Treas . The toasts of "The Visitors , " was given most ably and

responded to by Bros , the Rev . C . J . Smith , Jelley , H . T . Harrison , T . Davies , and VV . A . scurrah , P . M ., the last named observing that votes at Grand Lodge could not be given by proxy , and that everyone who wanted to render good service for the Blu : should attend on the first Wednesday in Alarch . The other toasts were " The Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary" and " The OIKcers , " and replied to in appropriate terms by Bros . A . Saunders , I . P . M ; R . J . Taylor ,

P . AI . ; li . Witts , 1 -M ., Sec . ; F . Thomas , J . W . ; J . H . Beauchamp , J . D . ; and T . A . Markland , I . G . The Tyler ' s toast brought a very happy evening to a close . The following vocally and otherwise entertained the brelhren : Bros . Austin , T . A . Markland , E . Witts , F . Thomas , A . Saunders , Jelley , and Davis , who gave the " Deathless Army , " accompanied by the composer , Bro . Trotere . Bro Alacfarlane presided at the pianotortc .

M ., Treas . ; C . B . Barnes , P . M ., Sec . ; VV . F . Stauffer , S . D . ; G . R . Carsberg , J . D . ; VV . Stall . I . G . ; W . M . Bywater , P . G . S . B ., P . M ., D . C ; W . Pound , P . M ., Stwd . ; Gilbert , Tvler . A Past Master ' s jewel was

presented to Bro . Green , I .

G . Miss Ethel Bevansand Bro . Franklin Clive contributed to the harmony of a pleasant evening .

Faith Lodge ( No . 141 ) . —This lodge met at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on the 30 th ult ., when there were present , among others , Bros . Trott , W . AI . ; VVhite , S . W . ; Godfrey , J . VV . ; VV . J . Hakim , P . M ., Treas . ; W . Stuart , P . M ., Sec ; Swan , S . D . ; Gluckstein , J . D . ; Moss , I . G . ; Sharpley , Org . ; J . C Taylor , I . P . M . ; C . Dairy , P .

The VV . AI . having replied , gave "The Visitors , " which was duly acknowledged by Bros .

W . ; W . A . Scurrah , P . M . ; J . J . VVhite , 733 ; C . Botterill , 134 S ;
